Music Arctic Monkeys

Will always my favourite Monkey's song.

505
Mardy Bum
When the Sun Goes Down
I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

In that order, in my opinion.

I don't know their stuff to well although 505 is definitely a standout for me. Enjoying this here, they look great live. Might consider going to see them on their UK tour if the albums any good and I get more into them.

Surely they're not going to finish without playing Mardy Bum, When the Sun Goes Down or 505?!

Playlist for them tonight:

I was hoping it would be Richard Hawley joining him on stage, not Miles Kane.

I've only tuned in to BBC2 for the past ten minutes so missed most of this. Have they played R U Mine yet?

When The Sun Goes Down is on now. Epic song but it contains one of the poorest Turner lyrics ever written:

"I can see it in his eyes that he's got a driving ban..."

Horrific.

There's only been two cases of a Turner faux-pas in terms of lyrics since I started listening to them way back when. That above lyric and one from Cornerstone (a song they just played, incidentally), which went:

"And I elongated my lift home..."

I read about six years ago in an early Turner interview that he loves to form lyrics around words not normally used in everyday language, but I think it backfired spectacularly here. It just sounds completely out of place and ruins the song, for me.

He's still the best lyricist of our generation, though. A genius.

That was great.

Years ago they used to just come on stage and play the songs with no attempt to be a showman whatsoever, nowadays Alex has gone full blown Elvis tribute act . He'll find a happy medium someday.

A driving ban amongst some other offences, in other words you can tell by looking at him that he's a dodgy feck. Still not fantastic but it's not that bad.

It works for me. Cornerstone is one of my favourites.

Fantastic... Best band in the world for me.

Very true. Saw them in Manc in 09, and I loved them. If for nothing else but hearing their songs played very loud.

But the more I thought about it the more I realised that they're actually nothing special live. No charisma or showmanship.

Came out tonight all guns blazing.

Disappointed he wasted some of their best songs on a Glastonbury crowd who didn't know who they were watching. Nevertheless, they've given me a reason to look forward to going back to uni.

Ah, university. I'm only out of my post-graduate course twelve months and I really miss it already. Best night out of the week was Indie night in one of the local clubs. It was packed to the gills with folk all into the same music and the nights in there were legendary. Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, Blur, The Libertines, Nirvana, Joy Division, The Smiths... fecking amazing.

I'd love to go back and re-live just one of those nights again.

Yeah I don't have that. Not to worry, all mine play Bruno Mars and, I don't even know, shite pop music. Absolute shite.

Which uni were you at? Nearest good night out for me is Leeds.

Good grief, Liam. That's shocking!

I went to university in Bangor, Wales. Not a huge selection of clubs but it is a good student town. One of the clubs has an indie night once a week and it was the best night out of the lot. I had friends in Birmingham whom I used to visit regularly too and there's an indie club/club that has an indie night once a week called Snobs. Probably the best indie nightclub I've ever been to.

I was banging a bird from Leeds last year in university and she was always raving about this indie club in Leeds called Propaganda. As women are, a) crazy, and b) ill-informed when it comes to music, I'd take her word with a pinch of salt. Is that the one you've been to? Any good?

Ha yeah, Propaganda's the place. Real variation of rock music. From American Rock to British Indie Rock. Sadly, the last few times I've been they've started out a bit more dancey.

The other place to go is the Stone Roses bar. Best bar I've ever been. Intimate, but the music's top notch. Strokes, Smiths, Stone Roses, Cribs, Arctic Monkeys, Courtneeners etc.. Not enough places playing this sort of music.

Was about to rant about missing this but for anyone who hasn't watched it's on the iplayer for SEVEN DAYS!

Pretty much the whole of Suck it and See doesn't make sense, it's a wind up, putting in words Americans might not understand as he knew how big they are over there

Really top notch last night. Been to see them twice; at the MEN in 2009 and Sheffield in 2011 and they get better every performance.

I'm expecting to get tickets for Manchester tomorrow (so I'll be gutted if I don't!), and there's a chance I'll have a couple spare, so if anyone misses out, drop me a PM. Why release tickets at 9am when most people are at work? I'm not complaining as it suits me fine, it's just an odd release time IMO.

They're coming to Glasgow in November and I think I'll consider going to that. Will probably need to get onto tickets soon though as I imagine they'll sell out soon.

The Jewellers Hands is lyrical genius, in fact all of Humbug was. But that song in paticular was done so well. And as much as I look forward to AM, I worry Turners losing his touch łyrically. The next single is called "Why'd you only call me when you're high?" I shit you not.

It seems hardly anyone was aware of the pre-sale tickets on Wednesday? Managed to get two pretty easily then in Manchester, seated block right next to the stage

I was aware of them but my bellend mates took too long to let me know if they were coming.

Why would you get seated?

I tried in the presale, but I didn't take my Credit Card to work and I couldn't remember the bank security password for my Debit Card. :(
I had two tickets waiting for me, but I couldn't buy them!

I'll be working that day, so seemed pointless for me to get there and have to stand towards the back

That's a shitter, but can you not just change your card security question when you get on to that section? I've changed it before without any problems.
