Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

I felt the same. Says a lot that I havent even got to the second season yet and I started watching it over 6 months ago. Its one of the most expensive shows made too. They really should've done that era of history more justice. Something even comparable to the quality of the Borgias, Borgia (yes two shows) or the Tudors would've been nice.

Tudors is a shit on a stick compared to Rome. Rome is one of the best TV series ever.

I must be one of the few people who thought Rome was overrated. In my opinion.

Only saw the first season though.

I only saw the first season as well but most people say the first season was better anyway. The second season has a big time jump to finish things up because they were aware that HBO wouldn't renew for a third season. It was mildly entertaining, it never had me hooked or completely immersed. None of the characters were very strong either. I rate Vikings and Spartacus even higher, thats not saying Rome is terrible. Just not great.

Has anyone watched a Turkish show called Ezel? Any good?

thats a soap opera... its probably shit, unless you are a older woman (between 40 and 80yo). In that case you might enjoy it and become addcited.

edit. havent watched it though. Just prejudging.

How do you rate Oz against the Sopranos?
There's something special about Oz for me. Sopranos is better by any sensible measure. But Oz has got such brilliant characters. I have to admit when they were on TV I used to look forward to a new series of Oz more than Sopranos.

They're both top shows. I enjoyed both of them more than The Wire. Mind you I enjoyed Rome more than The Wire too. But Oz and Sopranos above Rome.

I prefer my TV with quite a bit of drama, fast paced, lots of dark situations. I'm not too worried about how realistic any of it is, I'll watch the news for that. With that in mind Oz is hard to beat.

I have to agree with your post. Sopranos was great without a doubt, but Oz was just different and I think its just as good. Its vastly underrated. I had a debate with someone who thinks the Sopranos revolutionized tv (an opinion shared by critics and many people) and I agree but at the same time Oz was the original scripted drama on HBO. It opened the doors and thats a fact, not an opinion.

People think im blasphemous when i put both shows on the same pedestal

The first season of Tina Fey's new show - The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt - is up on Netflix. It's basically the same humour as 30 Rock with a chirpier disposition. I enjoyed it, and it contains a hilarious cameo from Martin Short, which is a sentence absolutely no one has said since at least 1992.

Where can I watch tv shows online, for an iPad?

I can only seem to find what I want for laptops/PCs, is that normal?

Cheers.

If it's TV you want I'd get Netflix.

My list of things to watch at the moment:

House of Cards
Suits
The Sopranos
The Wire

Watched a few episodes, it's good fun. Weird how Jane Krakowski is basically just Jenna from 30 Rock again.

Ellie Kemper is lovely too.

If anyone is into wartime, social history type dramas would highly recommend Generation War. Watched it on Netflix, it is a German mini series with 3 feature length episodes and follows the fates and lives of a group of friends during the second world war. It is entitled Unsere Mütter Unsere Väter in German and is of course subtitled throughout for non-German speakers.

Don't in any way let that put you off. It is an intense and moving drama, featuring brilliant cinematography (setting and closeness to the action) and acting. Could say so much more about it but don't want to give anything away. Certainly the best series I've watched in a long time.

Liking too Michael Portillo's Continental Railway Journeys on BBC iPlayer.

Binged through it in 3 days and really enjoyed it. It's probably a level below 30 Rock, but then it's a debut season and comedies nearly always hit their stride in the 2nd or 3rd. It's very similar in style though. As well as Krakowsku, Titus played D'fwan, and a major cameo towards the end is another 30 Rock alum.

I reckon the initial premise will be harder to mine for storylines than the TV station set up, but at it's best it was like one of the GOATs was back.

Going into the last 5 episodes of Lost (what a pile of shit this show was!) I want a new TV show. The candidates are:

- House of Cards
- True Detective
- Rome

Eventually, I think to watch all of them (and True Detective definitely before the next season get released). So the main questions are:
- Does the quality of HoC decreases on the third season (read mixed reviews about it)?
- Rome got cancelled, right? If so, did it have closure or not.

At the moment, thinking to go with House of Cards.

True Detective, first of all.

Rome got closure, as far as I recall, but I thought there was quite a big dip in quality in the second season. Still a good show to watch.

Haven't watched third season of HoC yet, but the first two were very good and definitely worth watching.

Rome dipped in S2 because they condensed around five seasons worth of material into it in order to close it off as they knew the show was getting cancelled. Still very good though.

Cheers! Decided to go with House of Cards. And I guess that there will be enough time to watch True Detective before the new season get released.

Anyway, all of them are relatively short, so I guess I can watch all of them, even if they (HoC and Rome) dipped on the final season. Just hopefully not Dexter/The Walking Dead kind of 'dip'.

I finished Sons of Anarchy last night. I may be the only person in the world still enjoying it by the end. But I thought it ended well. Nothing special, not a show that makes the pantheon of greats, but good, solid entertainment with an appropriately climactic ending.
