Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Game of Thrones really isn't that good. Overated like Breaking Bad. Great entertainment but nothing close to the best ever.
Agree for GoT but not for Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad IMO is on the discussion for one of the best ever TV shows. Obviously, I think that the Wire is a better TV show but Breaking Bad isn't far of.

Game of Thrones is enjoyable but not even on top 10 or so.

Well, now I can decide, easily. This is what happens when you age 8 years.

I have to agree with the sentiment that GoT is a bit overrated. Have only watched until season 2 mind. It's still a good show but nowhere near the best, imo.

For me, True Detective was one of the best shows I've seen in recent years. That's why I can't wait to start Hannibal.
Is Hannibal similar to True Detective?

Not really, but Hannibal is great. Mads Mikkelsen's version has become one of my favourite characters.

There's a few similarities between True Detective and Hannibal, though TD goes further in the hypnotic aspect, especially making great use of the Louisana setting which has a great aura.

Reading your ratings for shows is like watching a loved one die.

Well when your final season borders more on cartoonish and fan fiction, you tend to look back on it in a bad light (BB). Sons of Anarchy had potential to be fantastic but it soon devolved into just batshit crazy, GTA no fcuking way would that happen etc TV. You just rolled with the punches.

As for TWD, it is a bang average show, with terribly inconsistent writing, pacing and acting. 5/10 is about right all things considered.

 How do you even remember that post?

I can't even remember what I said yesterday, let alone what other people were saying 8 years ago!

edit: since the quote's not coming up, that's directed at Revan

I don't actually disagree with any of that, especially about Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. I think it was the Breaking Bad on the level of SOA bit, as the quality of the latter really dropped off massively.

I have a quite great memory for useless things. I read that comments a couple of years ago (when I watched The Wire) and when I saw Hectic's post instantly reminded it and posted it as 'a joke'. Obviously, when it was posted from Hectic, I wasn't even a member here.

Man I'm after getting a serious case of deja vu just now. Almost exact argument in the newbs last year or so.

Anyway, season five of BB left a horrible taste in my mouth;
going from Gus Fring to generic Nazi gang, Jesse the rat sideplot, the giant magnet and the whole ending with the gun and Walt saving Jesse. It was just bad in comparison to season four, especially how four ended.

I'm probably letting my disdain for s5 cloud my overall judgement of the show, especially the SoA comparison.

I watch the walking dead but i've never really been completely taken by it. Shot in my neck of the woods btw

Stream the old shows there better

Parks and Rec. It'll start off slow but stick with it, by half way through Season 2 you should be loving it and it gets better and better.

I'm not a huge fan of It's always sunny but it has quite a cult following, so maybe it'll be your cup of tea.

P&R and AD are both excellent shows. AD is a bit more sophisticated and well written, and the fourth season is surprising in many ways, while P&R is a very good sitcom for a wide audience that has a lot of heartwarming moments. Both extremely funny shows that can be enjoyed.

If you haven't watched The Office US, you probably should at some point as well!

Watch in that order...

Cheers for the Suggestions! still not 100% certain which to watch but It's Always sunny has fallen down in the pecking order.

Sunny is, for me, the best and funniest thing on TV - comedy wise. It is hard to imagine anything surpassing it - but then something always does in the end. It is absolutely brilliant. And I get the impression most people who like it feel that way. The other side of it is, people are much less likely to like it than Arrested Development or Parks & Rec. It is highly offensive, gratuitous and asinine. Depending on how you react to those kinds of adjectives, youll be able to work out in advance whether you are likely to enjoy it. Do you find offensive comedy funny? Can you imagine yourself laughing at jokes about racism, abortion and cancer? If not, chances are you wont like it. If those kinds of taboos dont bother you so much the chances are you will.

Well, as Adebisi's post shows, there's really a cult following for It's always sunny. I'm a bit surprised about what he says though, cos I love offensive humour and edgy stuff, but really didn't find that to be the case with IASIP. Hard to describe why I didn't like it really.

I'd go Parks & Rec and then AD if I were you.

I found it to be obnoxious and headache inducing. Archer is a similar show but mostly manages to stay on the right side of the line.

Yeah I guess its a bit presumptuous to say youll like it if you like offensive humour. Clearly a safer bet the other way though: you wont like it if you dont like offensive humour.

Yeah that's pretty true. I honestly couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like it, I really wanted to (I watched almost 2 seasons of it), and even though I didn't hate it, at some point I just dropped it and never felt the urge to go back to it.

Hmm it seems I'll quite like this then, the only thing i've seen from it was a youtube on the DENNIS system, and to be honest, it was right up my street.

The comedy that is, not the DENNIS system

Haha, yes. I'm just trying to say whatever he chooses will be fine, seeing he enjoyed HIMYM.

Yeah it was a good show to watch with the missus (She's a massive Friends freak). I did enjoy it though, but as with a lot of long running comedy shows the characters slowly became caricatures of themselves and the quality dropped towards the end but it was still watchable.

By the way, another comedy show that you'd probably enjoy with the missus is Modern Family, if you haven't already watched it.
