Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Hemlock Grove , anybody watched it.
The way it was billed as X-Files meets American Horror Story meets Twin Peaks, caught my interest, first EP is OK .

EDIT :

EP 2 has the best transformation in to a Werewolf I have ever seen, disturbing and creepy.

In the last 10 years or so, I have all but given up on tv. There never seemed to be anything I liked so I didn't bother. Because my Mrs watches it, I recently started watching Hawaii 5-0 on amazon prime, the new version not the 70s version, and I think its pretty much the bollocks. I also quite like bones and criminal minds. For what its worth, I think if I can sit through those, they must be pretty good!

Over the last 10 years, there's been loads of shows that are immenselly better than those ones, most of them referenced at some point in here!

I watch all of those, all enjoyable tv. Try NCIS, like those othert hree, not the best piece of tv ever made, but eminently watchable.

Rome is a good watch. I didn't like the second season so much though. The plots seemed rather rushed, and Lucius the gangster just didn't work for me. They must have been under pressure to get more viewers, or rushed to complete as much as the storyline as possible because they knew they were getting cancelled. Something like that, because it just seemed thrown together in a mess at times.

Don't know if any fans have read the interview, but the creator talked about what he had planned if the show had been picked up for the 3rd and 4th season. I tried to find it, but I couldn't. I remember reading through it and I was almost glad it was cancelled because I think it saved the show's legacy a little.

Anyone seen the american version of The Killing?

I am watching it at the moment and enjoying it. Not the best show out there but definitely worth a good watch.

@Vato The only good excuse for not watching highly rated subbed shit is if you're hungover and/or want to watch something easy. The Killing would be a rubbish thing to watch in either of those circumstances anyway, whatever the language, so you might as well man up and read.

I'd agree that Lilyhammer is good. It's light, slow quirky character stuff, but very likeable.

I've just finished Transparent, which is also light, slow, likeable quirky character fare. I was really impressed with it until the finale, where they promptly jetisoned all these things and plumped for trashy soap instead for some reason, but it's still pretty decent. The brother is also the actual brother of Pete from the League (another good show in an Always Sunny-lite vein) who're the writing partnership behind a lot of light, slow, quirky character films of okayish quality (Jeff, Who Lives at Home, Cyrus etc)

I'm also working my way through the Amazon pilots. The Man in high Castle is fantastically made, if somewhat a little cold, and the US remake of Mad Dogs was pretty much exactly the same as the UK one, only with Billy Zane playing the Ben Chaplin role better, Ben Chaplin playing the Phillip Glenister role worse, and Tony Blair played by a cat (that'll make sense to people who've seen it, trust me)
Thought I'd reply to you here to not derail the Gotham thread any longer. Yeah, I've decided to go for the original version of The Killing.

Might watch Lilyhammer too at some point but I'm in the mood for a more serious show now. Dunno about Transparent or The League as I've just seen the first episode of It's always sunny in Philadelphia and didn't really like it.

I'm liking the look of Mad Dogs, so I'll add that to my now huge to watch list, which looks something like this;

The Killing
Sons of Anarchy
Mad Dogs
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones (which will hopefully have ended by then so I can finally restart from s03 onwards... I know, I know.. :nervous:)

Which will keep me busy for a good 53 years at least, so I'll have enough time by then to start the 14 seasons you'll have shot of NSFW. ;)

Finished 1+2 of the Americans.....it's actually pretty good. Slowly at times, but I prefer that to falling into the usual spy flashy gimmicks, not that it doesn't have some of them in it, especially being saved somehow magically without getting found out last minute a lot....but either way, it's a good fresh look at the genre. But hope they don't go too long, and given the ratings, it shouldn't. It's got a few big arcs to play out, which could be covered in 2 more seasons. That'd seem about right.

I've just started watching Broadchurch and it's enjoyable but nothing special. They are using the very Killing-esque whodunnit method of identifying suspects with a bit of creepy music and a menacing look. I can't take that seriously after a while.

Are you still in 2014? Both Magic city and BE are over . Have you seen House of cards with Kevin Spacey? If you like it then i'd also recommend 'Boss' with Kelsey Grammar. Marco Polo is an epic 10 episode (first season) show that you might enjoy, the production values are of the highest order. The Killing is good, finish that. Then maybe you can add 'Hannibal' (tv show) to your list. Its brilliantly scripted and acted, and also uses a lot of catchy symbolism to tell the story.
I'll reply to you in this thread aswell. Btw I just saw the trailer of Hannibal and wow, it looks phenomenal! Exactly the type of show I was looking for, thanks for that!

No, I haven't seen House of Cards but I really hate politics so I'm a bit hesitant about that even though I know it's probably a great show, same for Marco Polo.

I thought maybe there was a 6th season of Boardwalk while there are only 2 seasons of Magic City? Ok so the list goes;

The Killing
Hannibal
Sons of Anarchy
Mad Dogs
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones
Magic City

This is just as a reminder for me as I have the worst memory ever btw. Have I missed something?

Judging by everything you've said I think Boardwalk Empire is the show for you.

And I think a lot of its bad points are easier to set aside when you can watch the whole thing when you want, as opposed to having to wait a week / year for the next episode.

Yep, nothing better than binge watching a season in a day or two. Due to this I'll better switch BE with Hannibal as I didn't know it was still ongoing aswell.

I'm going to try to watch all these in 2015 in this order.

The Killing
Boardwalk Empire
Mad Dogs
Sons of Anarchy
Magic City
Hannibal
Game of Thrones

Can anyone recommend me any good shows like The Wire, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad? Shows that have quality in writing of the dialogue, story, characters... etc.

I'm about to finish Deadwood and after I do, I just can't go back to watching mediocre shows like Arrow, The Originals etc.

So any good and new quality shows around? Thank you.

It's short, but you should definitely watch True Detective.

And if you have the patience and like political shows, The West Wing has loads of character development and good stories.

Mad Men
Sopranos
True Detective

Anyone catch any of the new episodes from Black Sails? Thought the first season very underwhelming but the show's been renewed for a 3rd season.

The Wire and Game of Thrones are two of the best shows I've ever seen, you should mos def give them a watch. If you're more a fan of fantasy, then start with GoT, if you prefer contemporary crime dramas, then start with The Wire. Both shows are chock full of fantastic characters and great/funny dialogue. Probably why I love both of them so much.
