Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Hard recommend on The Diplomat. Excellent series. Season 2 is as good or better than season 1. Shame it was only 6 episodes, but can’t wait for season 3. The Wylers were somewhat exposed/outmanoeuvred in large parts of this season, which was a nice juxtaposition to season 1.

Also, a massive thank you to the many posters who have recommended The Leftovers. I’ve seen several mentions of the show on here over the years and it never really pulled me in to watch it. Well, I saw two more recommendations on here in the last couple of weeks and decided to finally give it a shot…….well, shit. I should have done it ages ago.

All I can say is what a fecking amazing show this is. I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s fecking brilliant, and weird, and normal, and surprising, all at the same time. You genuinely never really know what’s coming. Some absolutely terrific performances, all the way through. It’s one of those shows that you just can’t look away from. There isn’t a moment that you want to skip through, or a storyline that you wish wasn’t there. It demands your undivided attention. And that is rare.

Seriously one of my favourite shows ever, and I am only a third of the way into season 3. Which is sadly the final season, but I suspect part of the reason this show is so good. So thank you to all those who recommended it, and anyone who skipped this…..go back and watch it. It’s amazing. I genuinely don’t know how I move on to another show after this. It’s going to require some TV downtime before I’m ready to take on something new. I tried to describe it to someone the other day, but had to stop because it was both impossible, and made me sound like an idiot. The storyline, and more importantly the message, is quite unorthodox to say the least, and to quite a large extent it is really what you want to make of it. Brilliant.

One of the GOATs! Be sure to savour the final stretch.

About to start The Day of the Jackal series on Sky. Looks like it's a 10 parter with 5 released the first week.

I absolutely loved the original film so am looking forward to this big time.

Just finished binging Slow Horses on Apple, excellent series, each season was of a very high standard,

On to Mayor of Kingstown next.

What is it with all the The Leftovers hype? I stopped watching in season 2 because it got laughably cheesy but now I see so much praise for it I'm having doubts.

Does it completely morph into prime Lost at some point or what?

Same, except I stopped in the middle of season 1.

The Day of the Jackal is promising so far.

Incredible show. Terrible take.

Must admit, I thought it was ok and as the seasons went on it got progressively worse and some of the actors/characters really started to irritate.

Been really enjoying binging Yellowstone over the last month or so, really really good show.

3 episodes into S5 and the primary storyline is really poor, with some utterly shite characters having been introduced.

Hope it recovers.

It doesn’t.

For shame.

Still, I’m intrigued by the prequels. Please tell me they’re good?
I haven’t watched them but by all accounts they are supposed to be, yeah.

I thought Yellowstone was great but it really ran out of ideas by about the point you’re at and got shit. Costner won’t even be in the second half of the last season! Also I hate Beth so much.

Great show. Beth and Rip are two of my favourite characters on TV in a while…. individually and (as the show progresses), together.
For shame.

I preferred 1883 personally (always been interested in that time period and the people who made that trip into the (relative) unknown)… 1923 was decent too i.m.o.

 I hated Beth early on but kinda warmed to her over the course of the show with some major events factoring significantly into that.

The masked attackers at her office, plus finding out the back story of her hatred for Jamie being the main ones.

Also on the masked attackers, my wife and I immediately recognised the voice of that piece of shit Herc from The Wire :lol;

1883 feels like the one that would appeal to me the most.

I really want to be a cowboy, basically.

It was always better than lost.

Has anyone watched Lioness on Paramount Plus? The first season is streaming on Prime for a couple more days.

Had low expectations going in, but turns out it’s really fecking good. Pretty hardcore. Critics give it mixed reviews, seems audiences loved it though

Well worth a watch to fill a gap in the viewing schedule. Season 2 just landed too.
Just finished season 1 - loved it! Would definitely recommend it!

Looking forward to starting the Day of the Jackal tonight. Never watched the film but I absolutely loved the book as a kid/teen.

The original film is a must watch. I watched the first episode and saw enough to carry on - will wait until it's all out though.

Nah. Season 2 > Season 3 >>>>>>> Season 4
Controversial!
Okay, the ending of Season 3, had a long, drawn out, anticlimactic info dump. Nothing supernatural, which is what I liked about S1.
S2 had some of the worst acting and silly writing I’ve ever seen, while also having some really good scenes/moments. But the overall story was even worse in 2 than 3. Taylor Kitsch was soooo bad, and Rachel McAdams character was soooo stupid, I just couldn’t get into it.
S4 was like, what were they even thinking? The dumbest of the 4 stories, although Foster was great.
1,3,4,2.

It's been a bit of a graveyard for new stuff recently so I've been looking back for stuff I have missed in the past. Was lucky enough to stumble upon Scorsese's Vinyl which completely passed me by before. Absolutely superb, It's criminal that it didn't get renewed. Onto The Deuce next.

Nearly finished The Diplomat (the US one). So far it’s been pretty good.

Will have to check out The Leftovers.

Watched the first two episodes of a new one called Teacup. Horror mystery type of thing. Interesting premise: weird things start happening in the vicinity of a few farmhouses (power outage, animals acting strange, a little kid walks into the woods and comes back talking gibberish), then someone in a gasmask turns up, draws a line around the properties and holds up a sign saying "Don't cross the line".

Then even weirder shit happens.
Is this any good? The first season has completed now, so if it gets renewed (i.e we might get answers) I might add this to my watch list.

I watched the first 4 episodes but haven't gone back to it yet. I was rewatching The Wire.

The episodes are only 25-30 minutes, so it's not a big time investment. You'll soon know if you want to carry on.

I liked it so far. There's some sort of paranormal or extraterrestrial shit going on. But I've not found out what yet.

I’ve just discovered that Travis, the guy who owns the Four Sixes ranch where Jimmy gets sent, is played by Taylor Sheridan the show creator, and a couple of years ago he actually bought the real Four Sixes in Texas which is pretty cool!

Someone told me early on that Travis was played by the guy who wrote/created it and I said “nahhh, he can REALLY ride”.

Just seemed unusual that a TV show creator has really good ability at something so specialist… such different ‘lanes’ (niche riding and acting/writing).

Also wrote Sicario and Hell or high water.

ha, yeah, I knew that all right, he's a good writer, he writes a crazy amount of tv nowadays.
