Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

First two episodes of The Franchise were pretty funny, but I expected more given pedigree of the cast and crew (Sam Mendes, Armando Iannucci, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Richard E. Grant, Daniel Bruhl.)

Always good to see Aya Cash on screen, mind...

Started watching Rivals on Disney+ after hearing about it on the “The Rest is Entertainment” podcast and after three episodes, I’d say it’s quite good. Definitely worth a watch if you have Disney+ already.

I started watching Kaos and didn't finish the 1st episode.
I appreciate its quality. I found the acting of some actors to be very good. some nice dialogues.

But it just didn't appeal to me.

Anyone else with the same feelings?

Probably a lot of people seeing as it got cancelled about two weeks after release.

Damn, that’s a shame. I really enjoyed Kaos. Thought it was terrific in a whimsical way. Goldblum was great as Zeus. So many shows that are not nearly as good that get renewed. I guess it just didn’t hit the right note for most people. I seem to be in the minority that found it very enjoyable.

Has anyone watched Lioness on Paramount Plus? The first season is streaming on Prime for a couple more days.

Had low expectations going in, but turns out it’s really fecking good. Pretty hardcore. Critics give it mixed reviews, seems audiences loved it though

Well worth a watch to fill a gap in the viewing schedule. Season 2 just landed too.

Yeah now that I saw there is a season two im curious. Cast looks stellar. The title of it originally scared me away bc it sounds cheesy/cheap.

That’s exactly how I felt. It’s not cheap. The production quality is absolutely first class, as good as anything you’ll see. The first season is great when binged. I think they got a good balance between the core storyline and the background personal stuff. With the vast majority of the focus being on the missions. There’s a lot of interesting geopolitical stuff going on, which at times is over simplified, but time constraints make that necessary. The action is fantastic. Some plot elements fall into place way too easily or quickly, but the upside is that it serves to keep the pacing good.

Overall very enjoyable binge watch, with some intense action. It’s pretty grim in some ways, and definitely not one to be watched around kids. Lots of foul language, nudity and violence. The holy trifecta of good TV.

What I did like a lot was how they pulled off the female representation. You have movies and shows that essentially transplant a woman into a man’s action role and have her behave as physically capable as a highly trained, ultra fit and strong man. The sort of thing where a 110lb waif of a woman knocks out a muscle bound 250lb dude with a single punch. There’s none of that bollocks here. The Lioness programme has a specific reason for only recruiting women, and aside from the programme leader (Zoe Saldana), and the Lioness, the rest of the cast is appropriately balanced. It’s not an all female action series, and the use of women in particular roles more usually reserved for men, has a very specific purpose.

It’s far from perfect, but it’s highly enjoyable and I couldn’t wait for season 2, which landed a few days ago with two episodes, and landed with a bang.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

If you're a fan of the first two movies, you might enjoy this. It follows John and Sarah as they are on the run from the law in the years after Terminator 2.

It's fairly old now, as it first came out in 2008, but it's a great series. I've watched it several times.

Is anyone watching Shrinking on Apple TV?

I watched season 1, loved it, forgot about it while it was off TV, season 2 has been out for three weeks, I got all caught up and feck…..this show is equally funny and heart breaking in the same breath. It’s such a simple show. It’s just people talking about regular life problems, but damn it hits hard when it wants to.

How do they actually make you feel sorry for the drunk driver that killed his wife? Maybe it’s just being able to see down the road that there is a lot of trauma to come. Instead of him being an amorphous concept, they are starting the slow process of humanising him, and you know how badly this is going to affect the family. Not least because the friend has now reached out to him emotionally.

It’s a great little show.

Great show imo. Glad to see the new episodes already out.

Was thinking of stating Outlander as been wanting to watch it for a while. Has anyone seen it?
It is a fantasy/time travel historical romance thing with some added action. A high budget Mills and Boon type affair. I got through season one without too much pain, but once my wife lost interest during season 2 we never went back and I certainly wouldn't choose to watch again.

Thanks, might pass then. Like historical stuff so caught my eye but will look at other stuff.

I love this show. I've only seen it the once and can't bear to watch it again knowing that it's ultimately left unresolved. Can't believe we got Terminator 3, Salvation (although, I don't mind this one too much and it's far superior to every movie after 2), Genisys and Dark Fate, but we never got a season 3 of this. Fecking madness. Still angry about that after all these years.

season 2 of the Diplomat was quality again, just a bit short for my liking.. I love the characters and the writing in this show

it's six episodes and I didn't realise I was on the finale until it finished - great ending and cliff-hanger for S03 though

Shit, forgot it aired recently. Thanks for the memory jog!

I agree on Salvation - wasn't executed that well, but still had some really cool ideas and it was nice that it was in a futuristic setting. T3 was average, but I despised Dark Fate and Genisys. Those two movies killed the franchise, sadly.

I loved Sarah Connor Chronicles too, and was really sad they discontinued it. There were some excellent themes in this series, and Summer Glau was perfect in her role as Cameron.

Wish they'd bring it back although it'd look kinda weird now as all the actors are 15 years older.

Station Eleven. Fell asleep in episode 3. Should I go back and finish it? Ep1 was good then Ep2 the kid is all grown up and it’s the traveling troupe thing, then Ep3 it’s another new character with no overlap. People were speaking highly of it but it’s boring as feck.

Started S1 last week and nearly through S2 - very much enjoying it so far.

I liked S01 but this season left me cold. Aside from being too compressed, virtually every character ended up looking like an idiot or just being unlikable. In the end I didn't care whether it would return for a 3rd.

Just saw the first episode of Jackal. I'm a big fan of the movie and book so I wasn't expecting much in a revamp. The best part of the original work was how it all built up in a plausible way, but here we have to kinda suspend disbelief for it to work. And there's a bit of soap opera with the 2 main characters' personal lives that feels like boilerplate filler. Still, it's better than I expected so far and will watch the rest of the first 5 episodes over the next couple of days.

edit: yeah, can really do without the family stuff, on both sides.

Okay, finished this show. They really make you work for it, but when you get to the end, it’s very emotional, very cathartic, very well done. Very diverse collection of characters: Mackenzie Davis, Matilda Lawler, Himish Patel, Gael Garcia Bernal, Lori Petty, David Wilmot, David Cross, Daniel Zovatto. Everyone was very very good.

A virulent flu wipes out most of the earth. A graphic novel unites a bunch of characters as they are seen before the pandemic and 20 years after. The novel becomes an obsession and sort of a religion for the various characters. It feels a little lyrical at times, and led to me falling asleep in episode 3. Glad I picked it back up, because it pays off.
