Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

Actually The Wire and Sopranos didn't have that "American" in them (Leftovers do btw haha).
But what I mean by "American", I find it a bit hard to describe. It's like smoothing out all the difficult things and ruff edges with some quirky stuff and make everything not-so-serious, you know, sugarcoating stuff.

How could you get more American than The Sopranos or The Wire? I think you must be mixing up a narrative style with nationality or something like that.

Don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that :nervous:
I think what I meant was that I've heard a lot from my friends about the books and the character Jack Ryan. I expected the TV show to depict him as a super spy but they surprised me with their portrayal of him
Eh again?

He was a middle aged, injured history teacher in the book. A analyst who is reluctantly pulled into situations. The TV is more like a reimagining of the characters and has nothing in common with the book. Book was light years ahead of the shite in TV.

Season 1 was actually good, intresting stuff and none of the wow filler stuff there.
But the second season was a complete turn off, meaningless wondering, a bit like latter half of The Lost. IIRC the BBQ dinner was the last straw for me.
Strange - for me, the second season is one of the greatest seasons of any show ever, and the third was not far behind.

So the show is even less American then. I think the character is meant to be a Brit raised in the US for what it is worth.
Yeah, I just saw mention of that in the second episode. To be honest, most Canadians become famous on American shows, and then we proudly mention that they are indeed Canadian!

Binge watched Fear The Walking Dead seasons 1-3 whilst in hospital last week. Really enjoyed the show. I found the characters and their flaws more interesting than TWD. Locations and budget was better too. Nick and Troy - brilliant characters, very flawed and well acted

Yeah The Leftovers was pretty consistent all the way through. Never really seen another show like it.

Feel tempted to give Leftovers a second chance now, the second season started really lousy.

why? Save yourself from a lot of nonsense TV.

Unless you only watch documentaries you have to suspend your disbelief for everything you watch to some degree. We all know that there are no Wookies for example.

To make something with pure fantasy enjoyable, at the very least, it needs to be consistent with its own premise and the better made something is the more leeway we tend to allow.

In the end it comes down to personal opinion/how much you enjoy fantasy. Personally I enjoyed The Leftovers more than enough to suspend my disbelief. It was very well acted with high production values, it kept me guessing right to the end, which was very satisfying.

That's the best part of the show. The photography is great.

I loved season 1 because it was dark and creepy, but after that it was obvious the writers didn't knew how to keep up without going full :wenger:.

Season 2 makes sense but only much later in season 3 and in some ways not until the final episode.

Not quite sure what that means, as some of the greatest shows (in my opinion) are American (The Wire, The Sopranos, The Leftovers, Breaking Bad, etc.) But if it's the quirkiness that you are referring to, then I agree. I'll give it a few more episodes.

Wasn't The Leftovers based on an older French show? Or am I getting that mixed up with something else?

Ah nevermind that was The Returned

I like scifi stuff and the 1st season was quite good. Disliked the first few eps of season 2 heavily but now I see people saying 2nd and 3rd seasons are the better ones. Hence the temptation.

You think?

I thought the pilot was great and it never really lived up to it after that.

Still a really solid show, though. and I could watch Simmons in anything.

I enjoyed the 1st episode but it then took quite a few episodes to really engage me but then got better and better imo.

I just found a little show called deep space 69. Its hilarious. Just dick jokes, just juvenile dick jokes but its so funny. Theres no social commentary or higher meaning, just low brow dick jokes for the sake of dick jokes. Just one man and his Koala friend Hamilton travelling the galaxy, boning chicks and shooting people in the face. Whats not to love?

Finished Maniac on Netflix and I wouldn't recommend it. The most telling line in the entire show, is when one of the characters says "Maybe my purpose was just to get you to this moment". I realised anything that I found interesting or intriguing became redundant or forgotten by the end. Was a bit like Lost in that regard, although at least with Lost I found the "journey" a bit more enjoyable.

Must be said that I thought Emma Stone was incredible, she was the only reason I watched until the end.

Channel Zero Season 3 , right up there with Twin Peaks for batshit crazy TV .

Love it. Episode 1 of season 4 is available to download at the usual places and the season then continues to Episode 2 on the 26th as far as I can recall. I'm gonna wait for the whole season to finish before binge watching it.

Yeah, she really showed Jonah Hill up throughout the whole show.

Am I the only one here that watch Terrace House on Netflix

Probably the most 'normal' reality show that I've ever seen, somehow I can't stop watching

Finally I finished the third season of Expanse. I would recommend it without hesitation. Recommendation that I also received in this thread.
Apparently syfy had canceled it but there will be 4th season in amazon.
Of the recent ones I did not like Maniac. I think I had something else in mind. I quit in the third episode.
I would recommend "Élite", about a murder in a posh school.
Several actors from la casa de papel.
Now waiting for the travelers/12 monkeys new seasons.
Any new science fiction series worth it?
Edit: I just read that 12 monkeys had a short 4th season this summer

Elite looks good, will give it a watch, thanks for the recommendation.

Downloading Castle Rock right now, I've heard good things about it. Also I love me some Stephen King.

Anyone seen "The Cry" yet? Just watched episode 2 and I want more!

It's a couple travelling to a town in Australia and then their baby disappears. Jenna Coleman plays the baby's mother.
