Television Anyone recommend me any TV Shows?

David Fincher's Mindhunter (Netflix collaboration) is premiering in 8 days (October 13th).

Gomorra is absolutely fantastic, even better than Sopranos for me. Up there with the best I've ever seen.

What kind of show is it? I've been looking for another Sopranos type show for a while. Just watched the trailer and it mentioned 'Italy's answer to Breaking Bad'? I liked Sopranos more for it's focus on relationships and people, whereas all the crime stuff was more of a back drop.

It's like a Sopranos but a bit more believable somehow. I'm 8 episodes into the first season but I'd highly recommend, especially if you liked Sopranos. You won't regret it.

All of these are shows I know many kinda know about, but still not nearly enough for my liking, so it's always worth re-upping them in this thread.

Anyone whose into Parks & Rec, The League, Silicon Valley or such, should seek out Party Down. It's a great little short-lived late 00s sitcom about shit actors, that starred a lot of now ubiquitous comedy mainstays (including Adam Scott in his first leading exasperated straight-man role) and was produced, and initially co-written by Paul Rudd.

Most of the series was also directed by Fred Savage (he of Wonder Years fame) whose acting comeback in The Grinder is also criminally underappreciated, not just for his (and Rob Lowe's) performance, but also as a frankly fantastic sitcom premise, cut down in it's prime.

*I tried to find a scene, but it's apparently one of those shows that's had it's clips purged from YouTube... Even though you can weirdly watch the whole thing in annoyingly off centered cropped form

A lot of the same people also collabed on Burning Love, a reality show parody that ran it's gimmick well into the ground, but had a fair few choice moments inbetween. Also Rob Delany is in it randomly at one point.

i thought there was a thread on this (i swear i posted in it) , but i cant find it, nor even a mention in the search but i just finished season 2 of Startup. If you did watch season 1 and were bit meh and lukewarm on it and not sure to continue, the second season is much, much better, imo.

Season 1 did have its moments, Martin Freeman and Edi Gathegi carried it, but season 2 is so much more rounded

I still think about Lizzy Caplan in Party Down now and then.

She's one of those alluringly minxy sexy-smart types that you'd happily sit up and talk shit with 'till 5am, even if you had a centerfold waiting in your bed. And if you eventually did get together, it'd only be after a long and passionate argument about some really important shit, which had become so intense and emotional it'd exhausted all logic or reason, and could only be de-escalated by an explosive blow out of raw, cathartic, animalistic sex...

Or, you know, I guess. Whatever. It's not like I've really thought about it or anything...

She was in a fairly good BBC mini-series recently by Sam Bain (co-writer of Peep Show, Babylon & Fresh Meat) called Ill Behaviour. I can't find any clips, but it's worth seeking out too. It's as darkly comic as you'd expect from Bain, and as damagedly sultry as you'd expect from Caplan.

Can any of you recommend me a crime show with a mystery serial killer that covers multiple episodes? Something like Red John in The Mentalist.

Well, there's a new Netflix show coming out in 5 days and it's about serial killers. I've been searching myself for serial killer shows but it seems in most of them we already know early in the show who the serial killer is.

What's this one called?

Yes, I’m finding the same. I watched True Detective last week and enjoyed it. Also watched David Fincher films Zodiac (obviously a true story) and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo which were both enjoyable.

I really enjoyed the journey of the Red John storyline in Mentalist but it promised more than it ultimately delivered.

Mindhunter looks very good.

The Killing. I don't think it's that great, but it's solid. The Bridge, the original Swedish-Danish one (Bron/Broen) or the US-Mexican one. The former is better. Bosch, with Titus Welliver. I enjoyed that one a lot for some reason. Mr. Mercedes and The Fall are well received, but I never liked about those shows, that you practically know from the beginning, who the killer is.

Gave Ozark another shot and I am really liking it so far.

The relatively slow pacing suits the show.

Glad you're liking it. It's quite understated, and dark and I found it quite funny in places. The redneck wife I found simultaneously repulsively vulgar and terrifying. I heard there's going to be another season, I hope so!

Always wanted to watch this.. Soprano is my favourite show but theres so many episodes to catch up on which only bothers me due to the subtitles. Lazy I know, but they require constant concentration.

Les Revenants is much shorter, and the likes od Narcos atleast have some english in them to break things up.

Honestly, do it Alock. You will get sucked in after the first episode and not even notice that you're reading subtitles.

It's funny you say it though because that was the reason it took so long for me to finally watch it. @Party Boy

Party Down is solid. Glee ruined it by taking Jane Lynch away.

Haven't seen Burning Love but I listen to the movie podcast How Did This Get Made where June plugged it a lot. The premise makes sense because also on the show it's frequently noted how fanatical June and Paul Scheer (her husband) are about The Bachelor. I'll check the show out along with Grinder. Been missing something good to watch as I've been rewatching Frasier lately which I imagine most Brits have seen.

Anyone watching The Detectives: Murder on the Streets? BBC documentary about murder detectives in Manchester. It is really well done, has an edgy kind of noir feel.

Anyone seen Guerilla with idris Elba? I'm currently making a promo for it. Show looks ace.

I'm also making a promo for Inhumans. Hands down the worst show I've ever worked on... And I've worked on a show called Touched By An Angel

Horror fans please make note of two series totally worth a watch:

Evil Things
Terror in the Woods

Both are pretty similar and feature two recent well documented cases of paranormal activity - haunting, curses, strange animals and the like. Lots of fun.

The Exorcist has gone mad too in my opinion. The new season is genuinely scary :)

Is this basically the general tv thread? I was thinking of making one.

Caught the second episode of Snowfall on BBC 2 last night (without seeing the first). Gonna make sure I catch up and then watch the lot. Nicely shot and pretty good fun. Seems more like a Netflix thing than BBC, who I normally associate with glum UK dramas.

When is The Defiant Ones coming to Sky?

My wife and I watched The Mist and really liked it. Quite entertaining. It is a shame there is no second season.
Yesterday we started Jericho (the one from 2006 - 2008) and it seems to be pretty solid Entertainment as well.
