Antony under investigation by Brazilian authorities for domestic abuse | Inquiries ended | Back in the squad

I wouldn't play him anyway. What for?

Team is more balanced without him. Bruno brings more quality, consistency and maturity to the right, far more than Antony.

It was kind of nice not having in the starting 11 tbh….I’ll severely disappointed if he goes straight back into the starting lineup when his form doesn’t warrant a place. I’d have Pellestri, Mount and even Bruno in there over him.

Not sure what else the club can do unless the police charge him with something, and that could take a long time.

United need to stop taking decisions for itself? Alright then.

This is what happens when as a football club, you cosplay police and court duties.

It would have been very fecking simple to say that pending a charge/conviction, our asset will continue to play for us, however may be granted leave at different points to deal with legal shit in Brazil/England. And leave it at that.

But mes un que club and all that.

Because three separate women accusing him of domestic violence is quite a big coincidence

Interesting you view it as that must mean he is guilty considering what we know about two of the three accusers now. To me the coincidence of the stories of the three women would suggest the opposite.

From the Athletic article on this:

"Under the terms of the standard Premier League contract, which has been in place since a collective bargaining agreement was reached with the PFA in 2003, clubs can only suspend players for a maximum of 14 days. But they can decide not to consider players eligible for selection — and continue to pay their wages — if they wish."

Even if the club didn't want to bring him back (which I think they do, and I also think is the reasonable stance) there is a limit to what the club can do here if Antony wants to come back. He hasn't been suspended, but would probably have a pretty strong case against the club if they tried to keep him on the sidelines any longer. He hasn't been charged, and there is little-to-no evidence in the public sphere to form valid grounds for suspension. Allegations alone shouldn't be enough.

We really need to get to the bottom of why people draw comparisons between police investigating someone for attempted rape and the police not currently investigating allegations of assault.

The desire to conflate the Greenwood and Antony situations, despite being vastly different, must be based on something and I'm not sure we've got to the bottom of what.

I didn't say it meant he was guilty. Just that he might've done shitty things, thrown something at someone, hit them, been verbally abusive, etc...

I just don't see why three separate people women would make up stories about someone? What is the gain? If he's been a loving partner you'd have to be extremely fecked up to come together and invent stuff about such a nice man. And don't use the 'women make up stories for fame & money' shite because yeah look at all these famous victims living it up, can't move for how many there are and how much money they have.

Because three separate women accusing him of domestic violence is quite a big coincidence and a co-ordinated attack if he's been a loving and non-aggressive partner to these women (if so why would they all make things up). I don't know the extent of anything he's done but it's such a wide spectrum that I doubt he's just completely innocent of shitty behaviour. I'm not saying it's enough to kick him out of the club or anything.
You should read up on the case then. There is only one woman he has been a partner to (Cavallin) who has made allegations of domestic violence.

There is one further case from a long time ago where some random woman had an argument with a friend of Antony's while he was driving and she was left on the sidewalk.

The last case is a banker/influencer (Ingrid Lana) whom Antony most likely cheated on Cavallin with. The evidence available in the public sphere on this one in particular discredits Lana, and there is no evidence available to us to back up her claims.

This narrative of 3 DV allegations so therefore he must be guilty is very misleading and disingenuous.

And yet you describe domestic abuse as what think he has done - so you do think he is guilty? You just contradicted yourself completely.

Well one did lie about it and completely retracted her statement, and a phone call with the other suggests it all lies also. Further more not all were for DV. You act like such people in the world don't exist, there has been plenty of examples over time where people go out their way to ruin some ones life.

Hasn't it been proven that one of them was lying? She claimed phone talk was fake but if the police accept it as evidence, she wont get away with it.
Other woman has dropped accusation. Honesty her whole story felt like a honest mistake, they didnt even know each other. It was random nothing story even if you take her words at face value

So it's just Gabriella, the first accuser vs Antony.

Not guilty of the charges leveled at him. I guess there is a threshold. Like I said, I have my doubts that he's been such a great guy in these relationships and multiple people decided to make stuff up about him. Whether it's a mistake from one or not, that's a mighty big concidence.

I'm lost, sorry. So you don't think he is guilty of the charges levelled against him (domestic violence), just that "he might have thrown something at someone, hit them, been verbally abusive, etc"?

We're talking about one or two people. And there's an obvious tangible benefit for people to make things up against a famous person, gives them media clout and/or a financial settlement.

Not guilty in the eyes of the law, i.e threshold not met to charge. But probably done some dodgy things that are impossible to prove.

Lots of victims with media clout these days. So many. So rich too.

My main worry is Pellestri will return to the bench again, and we'll say goodbye to that energy and creativity at the RW for the time being.

Good decision. Don’t think the club should’ve sent him away in the first place unless it was decided by him that he couldn’t focus on facing the allegations and football at the same time. Given he’s cooperated and the police in Brazil and Manchester respectively have neither arrested nor charged him with anything then not bringing him back at this point would’ve meant that to have some consistency they would’ve needed to keep him away for the entire duration of all investigations which is a ridiculous precedent to set considering others are arrested and charged without being sent away.

I don't know what is going on in this forum, really.

Antony is always very energetic and has touch of class in him. He is far superior to Pellistri, who just runs around a lot. And I like them both by the way...
The overly harsh and unfair criticism Antony receives is only because of his high price tag, which is hardly his fault.

He'll improve the team. And also when he hits form, he'll be amazing.

Antony is a bad footballer....I've seen it all
He's massively overrated by the fact that we have had no senior RW since Nani left. People used to turn their noses up at Bowen but he started the season on fire, Antony would do well to even match that this season.

You must be watching a different game. Maybe you're not a Man Utd fan. Antony has been an absolute disappointment since his arrival. Done nothing for the team. He isn't good enough for Man Utd. Unless you want Man Utd to be a v v v average (at best) football team.

Antony would not be close to being considered by any other top side. None. Yet some think he is good enough for Man Utd. Sometimes I think we get the club we deserve, because some of us don't expect much.

I think Pellestri was returning to the bench no matter what to bring Bruno back in. More worried that this means Bruno moves back into midfield and we drop Hannibal who's injected some real life and energy into the team.

The irony is amazing.

I feel like energy is one thing you cannot criticise Antony for. He tracks back every single time and does plenty of lung busting runs up the pitch.

He's a very good one actually. I was surprised when our first game of the season he was given a bad review. At the ground you see the quality he has not just in possession, he helps the team a lot.

Add some end product and he'll be lethal.
The problem is if you do not add some end product he just blocks up an avenue of attack, Antony is brilliant at holding up the the ball and retaining possession, and undoubtedly he is committed and hardworking, but it would be hard to argue against Dalot and Pellistri having offered more threat in the final 3rd

In what world does Pelistrio offer more than Antony? He loses the ball constantly, hos control is not the best and the biggest weakness for me is his non existent strengh. He has the body of a teenager yet he is 21. It's also not his first year at the club he should have bulked up by now. I don't really rate Antony but he still is levels above Pelistri.

Pellestri offers better balance, the right sided player who doesn't always have to cut inside. Antony only has one shot (cut inside, aim for other corner), he has no pace, power, cannot go outside. No crosses. No goals. No assists, no consistent supply line of chances at all.

Why do we want players like this in the team? For what? You think they can take us onto the next level?

Man City have bought this guy Doku, who has shown more in a few games, then what I have seen in Antony in a whole year.

Salah. Saka. Kulasevski. Sane at Bayern. Mahrez in Saudi. All left footed players, playing from the right, and they are so, so, so far ahead of Antony it's unreal. Yet some of us want Antony in the team. I simply, simply do not understand it. Just because we buy a player, it doesn't mean, he has to be a good signing. Sometimes signings do not work out, that's the nature of a big team, it happens. The key is to recognise, early, and move on.

We can't keep playing and accepting poor players at Man Utd. Not so long ago, this would never have happened.

Might have to get myself checked for a brain tumour cause I could've sworn I've seen both goals and assists from the player but apparently there's none.

idk i havent been all that impressed with pell on the right. Dude mainly looks out of control with the ball, and too slow/inefficient trying to score from positions where you swear it is harder to not score than to score. His directness has been nice to see, and glad he has a good work rate at least. Still would like to see antony a bit with an actual CF making runs and giving forward options before i judge him fully. Swear though the dude needs to stop going for far post the one time i saw him go near post he scored.

Good. The best outcome for us is that he cooperates fully with the authorities (he has) and said authorities determine he has no charge to face (we'll see).

Judging a player before the relevant authorities can is a recipe for disaster imo.

Will that stop the media from absolutely hammering him? Absolutely not.
