Antony under investigation by Brazilian authorities for domestic abuse | Inquiries ended | Back in the squad

I have bad news for you.

It was €100m.
Ah, I maybe mixed up the currencies … [franticly googles] yes … well, I found claims we paid around £80.5m, £81.3m or £82.2m, so I guess that fits with the claims of €95m at the time.

If that’s true, I only missed by €1m more than you did :wenger:

Pretty sure it was 100m and 85m in pounds. Hence all the talk about how much he costs all the time.

Not according to my google. Unless we’ve paid more since, but I can’t imagine what dependant clauses might have been triggered. Then again, these numbers are not official, so either way it’s the more or less intelligent guesswork of journalists we’re going off.

Hopefully we don’t regret this decision.

Will be very happy to have him back on the right given other options currently.

Seems the time off was just to allow him to handle things over in Brazil.

Fair enough. There's a lot of questionable shit in this case that points to it not being clear what is going on and too harsh to actually suspend him based on knowledge available. We gave him time to go and deal with allegations. He's done that seemingly and now back in. Hopefully we see Bruno or Mount on the right in the meantime and we play well so there is actual competition for his spot though

He has cooperated with both Brazil and English police and has not been charged for like 3 months.

Protecting alleged victim is important but we also have an obligation to protect Antony from unjust punishment when the allegations could very well turn out to be false. Unless the police proceeds with the case, this was right decision.

Fair enough. If he has co-operated with both Brazilian and UK police and they're satisfied for the moment it makes sense.

I firmly believe he must have done something shitty though, but that's just my opinion.

Why aren't they using the Mason Greenwood rule with Antony? Why is Antony allowed back in the squad whilst eh investigation is still ongoing? I know arsenal have done that with a certain someone but why are united using one rule for Greenwood and another for Antony? Have the club got the balls to face up to the public backlash and the inevitable Rachel Riley tweets?

United really are the club with no morals.

Horrific decision but expected as much from them

Antony has not been charged with any crime.

Being a shitty person and a shitty boyfriend to your partners isn't a criminal offence. You can be both those things and not somebody who physically and sexually assaults people.

Yup. These are important rights for both accuser and accused. The right move for the moment.

Oh come off it - the level of evidence that was made public against Mason was totally unique. Impossible to compare it to pretty much any other case made against a player.

They’ve obviously learned from the Greenwood debacle that being decisive and clear in the decision making is necessary.

Not saying I’m entirely comfortable about it when there’s three different accusers but in general they’ve sought guidance from the police and he’s not under restrictions so it is what it is.

It is a reasonable decision for this moment. We are a football club, not a religious organisation.

Greenwood was charged, Antony has not been charged its pretty simple

What would you do?
And do Arsenal have no morals too? Playing Partey through all his allegations?

We really don't know how guilty he is and the evidence is not there like it was with Greenwood. If anything more comes to light it should be dealt with accordingly but for now he can return to work.

I hope he's eased back in, quite a few are returning from injury so we may have a number of options to play RW.

Backtony. Not his biggest fan but always good to have our options open and as many first team members available for selection.

I was very much of the opinion that without evidence, he should have the right to play until we hear or see anything that changes the situation. And it seems he's confident he's not done anything wrong and neither the British or Brazilian police think otherwise, as of yet.

The issue is he’s not been charged with anything. City played Mendy, Arsenal are playing Partey, Brighton played Bissouma, Bayern played Ribery the list goes on. It’s a mix of football clubs not caring / as employers not being able to drop them if they are only being investigated and not yet charged

Bad news. Don't want the scumbag back at the club!

You don't call out a doctor, your girlfriend has a ruptured implant and alleges her partner is responsible without there being some truth behind it.

Antony hasn't been charged. He was interviewed yesterday for hours by police and United feel he has provided enough evidence to prove his innocence.

Where did I say it was? I said fair enough.
