If he’s granted his wish to join us he must come out all guns blazing on his debut.

who put RR in that position?
Whoever did is an idiot, anyone could have told you that these players wouldn't respond to Rangnick's all action, hoof it long style that was going to disappear in a few months.

Thankfully Ralf is also the most honest and open manager I've ever heard, and we learned a lot about the shambles going on through him.

Ajax has signed two wingers and not lost anyone yet. So the talk about not having time to replace Antony is nonsense. They have Tadic, Bergwijn and Conceicao, also Berghuis can play there. So they already have more wingers than last year

Berghuis and Tadic are midfielders by nature.
Tadic is 33 and losing his pace. So he's better off as a midfielder.

Conceicao (son of) hasn't got much minutes.Played 2 games with the second team. Really talented kid but not first team material yet. His time will come!

Bergwijn and Antony are really the only worth mentioning wingers

We can also just play Rashford, Sancho, Elanga, Pellistri, Amad right wing, no need to sign Antony.

You've probably got about 20 wingers waiting in your youth teams.

Its Ajax ffs.

100m should be the number Edwin and your board is looking for. Its just a negotiation.

Even the gutter press said our relationship with Ajax remains good. Why wouldnt it? We're giving you gobs of money for your players.

We really do have an entitled and arrogant fanbase don’t we?
“We are giving you loads of money, how dare you reject.”

Like some of the sane ones here have said already, we are entitled to bid for him, ajax are fully entitled to keep hold of the player and reject us if theu wish to do so. There is no need to take this personal, it’s pure football business.

Should Antony be worth more then sancho? I don’t think so. Sancho was more established in a better league. So we shouldn’t be paying more then we did for sancho really.

Thanks captain obvious. You should work in courts.

Why? Because they outspend everyone in their league by a massive, massive amount.

Their closest rivals only win the league when Ajax are either in transition or they have a bad season and underachieve.

Finished two points off PSV last year, and in most title races it's decided within the last three games. Huge leads are an exception, not the rule. The problem is that it's a two team league. PSV might spend far less than Ajax, but it's still enough to comfortably beat all other clubs meaning that titles are often decided by the results of the matches Ajax and PSV play against each other.

A pot of gold worth €40m for who ever comes out on top in just two matches.

Why would I do that when I've got your mom working for me? :D

And it's obviously not obvious to many people in this thread as they are struggling to deal with Ajax not accepting United's money.

Tevez performances after he put in the first transfer request was really underwhelming and when he got the move to Juventus he clearly kicked to another gear. City winning the championship has nothing to do with that as they had a great team and spent like billion to get there.

Suarez,Modric is probably the one examples I give you that but all others didn't have up to par season compared to their previous ones when they didn't put in a transfer request.

And as you mentioned all examples had put in a good season and got their move, so you can't keep an unhappy player too long. Then it's a question what value Antony will bring next year and how does it work for Ajax. IMO it will be certainly lower.

Going off Antony comments he put it clear that he is using Ajax as a stepping stone, so similarly like Di Maria he doesn't want to stay for a long time there, who also signed a long contract if you get there.

My point was answer to Ajax can't lose, which clearly they can and in fact - big. Antony is not Suarez/Modric, Ronaldo or any of your examples. No one gives a crap about hitting big numbers in Eredivisie and either way Antony isn't hitting them yet or doing it consistently, so it's unlikely he will fetch any amount similar to the one United are ready to pay because of ETH.

So absolutely yes - Ajax can lose - tens of millions, keeping unhappy player and unrest in the dressing room.

OK but again your initial question was has anyone ever put in transfer requests, been refused and then still put in good performances afterwards? The answer is unequivocally yes.

Now, if the question is whether anyone in Anthony's exact position has done so (young player in 'lesser' league, I don't know. I don't follow enough football to know.

I haven't really commented particularly on whether Ajax are right to turn down such an offer or not. Realistically it's way over what he's worth and also realistically they'd have sold if this bid was earlier in the window. A bit of craziness all round really.

We can also just play Rashford, Sancho, Elanga, Pellistri, Amad right wing, no need to sign Antony.

Rashford and Elanga have both struggled RW. Pellestri and Amad are not ready. This is why Antony is getting lots more attention than Gakpo.

We NEED a left footed RW.

Let's not get overboard here.

Ajax got the following players from SA in the last 15 years:
Lisandro Magallán - utter failure
Darío Cvitanich - a little less of a failure, but failure none the less.
Nicolás Lodeiro - shite
David Neres - hit, but yet sold for very little of a resale value and on a loss
Mateo Cassierra - shite
Davinson Sánchez - hit
Luis Orejuela - shite
Nicolás Tagliafico - hit, sold for a little of a resale value.
Lisandro Martínez - hit - big resale value.

Antony was brought in for close to 16m EUR which in terms of value was one of the highest fee paid by Ajax in the last 20 years on a player.

Looking at the list they had probably 1/3 of those brought in from SA that are a hit and Sanchez and Martinez brought in a substantial resale value in the last 15 years.

One of the reason Martinez brought it is because ETH became our manager as I don't see anyone but United paying that kind of money for him this window (not necessarily meaning he is a bad business).

Arsenal were into him supposedly before moving to Ajax:
http://www.thehardtackle.com/news/2...nal-ajax-tracking-sao-paulo-youngster-antony/

So yeah considering the hit rate and if Ajax decide to prove a point by benching him/sending him to the reserves there's a good chance a flair player that also will attract offers from other European clubs, to pass on that Ajax option in the future.

Whilst Antony is on a three year contract he holds the cards more than Ajax as killing a 80-90m profit is something not a sane business person would do to prove a point.

I'm not talking specifically about South American players, I'm talking about young players in general. People ( essentially fans of the 7-8 super clubs) always say this whenever a transfer doesn't go their way.

Ah interesting, thanks. But then that brings up the advantages Ajax have vs an Arsenal, let alone the true giants.

Putting aside work permits, he's gotten 2 years of first team football (unlikely at Arsenal), 2 years of CL (not at Arsenal), trophies (FA cup in fairness in his 1st season) and an easier league to bed into.

I also don't really think Ajax are trying to prove any point. They've sold multiple key players in this very window, just as they did last window and the window before that. The smart money says they'll be selling multiple key players next window too. That seems to have been somewhat missed in amongst all of the mud flinging towards Ajax.

We're in a cost of living crisis mate.

The league comes down to those two because they comfortably beat everyone else. It’s no coincidence the top two spending teams beat the other teams most of the time, which means the league is often decided when they play each other.

3rd place last season finished 12 points off the top, that’s the gap between these two.

Imagine us and City spent £100m every summer and the rest of the league only spent £10m. What do you think would happen to the league?

Fans in getting emotional over sports shocker.

Agreed, thats my point for Ajax as well. One of quality.

And yes we need him, I just don't want to see Elanga play there again this season.

We've needed someone like him, a left footed RW, for years
We had one whose name rhymes with Bacon Pleenhood, but he fecked up his entire career this past year. So we needed a left footed RW for about a year only. But let’s not digress, this thread is not about him.

Our DoF is probably the most incompetent employee of any company, in history, in any role.

He can’t even close a deal for 90mil on a player who literally nobody else is after.

Given Murtough’s shitshow of a window, it would be a travesty of epic proportions if he is still in a job come September the 1st.
If he ends the window having successfully added 5-6 players that the manager wants then I’d say it’s job well done. Clubs automatically add extra cost when United come calling because they know that ultimately United will pay or their fans will moan.
