They can get Amad as part of the deal?

Amad will get plenty game time and develop it'd suit him well there I think. We get Antony. Ajax get the cash and a nice replacement. Amad gets game time. Everyone happy.

That wouldn't be a good deal for Ajax at all. After all they are a big club, loaning players to develop them for bigger clubs gives no incentives to them. Only way they would take Amad on would a permanent deal or loan with option to buy.

I think we will sign him but unlike a lot of ye I think Ajax are playing a blinder. They either keep their contracted player, which they are entitled to do, or make a massive profit on a player that many had never heard of a year ago.

If that offer is to believed, they could be sitting on that profit right now - they already got United to up their bid considerably. There's every chance we don't go back in for him, they have a star player that actively wants to leave, and no money for him in the bank.

I don't at all you're right.

All I can see is an unhappy player wanting to leave, and they're refusing a RECORD fee just to be petty.

Do Ajax really think this ends well for Ajax if they keep him? he's going to be putting in half assed performances all the way until January, when it'll start all over again.

I get they don't want to give in easily but it's not like we're low balling them. It's a huge offer.

They are running a football club, they are not being petty just because they are not doing what you or their contracted employee are doing. It's absurd that the club who hold the contract and pay the wages should be bullied by the player and a bigger club.

I mean Antony is a slave at this point.

Obviously, he's not.

They have said all along they have enough money in the bank and now their focus is the pitch, not the bank.

Agreed.

Ajax don't come out of this looking bad at all, they are negotiating from a position of strength and IF the transfer happens it will be on their terms (Not Antony's or Uniteds).

That's what happen when you're trying to make a huge deal happen 5 days before the end of the transfer windows with everybody knowing that you're desperate. United will increase their offer and Ajax will accept. That's how PSG ended up playing ridiculous fees like 45M for f*cking Paredes.

So he should've signed a 2 year contract, not 5 years, if it was clear he'd want to leave in 2022....
He wanted the security for long term but Ajax has to let him go as soon as he's gaining some value?

Sorry, I want to see this guy at OT too, but Ajax have every right to demand whatever fee they want.
That's not how contracts work in football mate. Usually it's the club who want a long term contract instead especially with young players. You absolutely don't want your potential 100m player leaving on a free.

I get what you're saying, but it only hurts them in the long run. Football is a dog eat dog sport with heirachy.

They are being MORE THAN compensated. If he was trying to leave with a mediocre offer I can understand, but this is an insane fee for somebody fairly untested. It's a huge gamble on our part.

Clearly if you listen to his interview he moved to Ajax expecting it to be a stepping stone to bigger things. Now they are going back on their word.

Im not a fan of players publicly asking to leave. Its not like Ajax are struggling to challenge. They won the league and are in CL this season. He signed a 5 year deal and wants out after 2 years because of Man Utd. Whats stopping him from doing the same to us 2-3 seasons in if Spain comes calling ?

Tbh there are posters that love to slate Ronaldo for the slave comment still. I don’t see how this behavior is any different (if not worse), its just we’re on the other side of it this time so we “love” it. Double standards.

They're not going back on their word if he was merely going on his expectation

Ajax making insane plays and profits because they know this is the most desperate we've been in almost a decade. Don't think this hurts their reputation as much, honestly.

Hope the kid can handle the massive expectations that are being quite unfairly placed on his shoulders once he gets here.

This isn’t cool
I dont like this either. This is not a good look for Antony. How long before he wants his next project at PSG or Real? And you just don’t embarrass the club that has brought you on over these last couples of years.

As if the transfer fee wasn't already mad, this drama will really put a spotlight on him.

I mean permanent deal. Maybe with a buy back clause if we believe in his potential.

Weird sense of entitlement among some of our fans.

Ajax have every right to rinse us, and they have every right to not be all that enthusiastic about selling a player that they put in the hard yards to scout and develop that they haven't really got full value from in sporting terms - he's only played 50 odd matches.

All these notions of it being bad for them to do it because it gives them a poor reputation, or players will be less keen, or that they're destroying dreams are complete one eyed, United tinted nonsense.

Honestly the price we're being quoted is absolutely mental here... surely we can get someone just as good/better for cheaper.

It sounds like he's mega-desperate to come here. That's amazing. We'll get our money's worth out of him. He can wash the dishes and do the laundry for us.

You won't get a more public admission of wanting to leave than that. Whether you agree with it or not, Antony does raise some valid points. Refusing the largest bid an Eredivisie club has ever received for a player who has made it clear he doesn't want to be there anymore is pretty insane.

I’m surprised a club of their pedigree is behaving like this and allowing itself to be publicly humiliated
They don’t have to sell, the player has a contract. I don’t really get why they’re obliged to accept whatever he asks?

No, the contract is 'their word' and the player's. He's the one trying to force the break in it.

expectation? or talked about and agreed terms. He said he told them he wanted to leave in February and again in June when we first told of our interest.

Clearly it's because we took Ten Hag and Martinez now they're being 100x more difficult.

Who cares, if he does, let him go, if that happens, that would mean he did brilliant job for us years before which is fine by me.

He told them, yes. Unless they agreed to it, even under certain conditions, they're not going back on their word since they never gave their word

Got to say he makes fair points here though.

It’s reasonable for any Eredivise player to expect if a league record bid comes in for them that they move.

It sends such a bad message to future talents and their reps what Ajax are doing here with a top dollar offer on the table.. A 22 year old established Brazilian international should no longer be playing in Dutch football, it’s not disrespectful but just the way it is.

Don't expect Ajax to be signing many South American talents after this. They use the Eredivisie purely to get their foot in the door in Europe.

You really think they have dreams of playing for them? Ajax doing this is going to make many think twice. Take the money, sign another talent.

We won’t be signing him under the illusion that he will be sold in a few years. That’s Ajax’s entire business model - sign, develop, sell. They’re just refusing to do the latter part with Antony. He even said himself - I was always coming for 2 years.

To be honest, whilst I don't condone his behaviour. I'd hate it if a player did the same at our club.

I do think he is desperate and this is pure desperation. Big moves like this should be capitalised upon, who knows, he may get injured or have a bad World Cup which could put off suitors.

I think Ajax has renegaded on a gentleman's agreement here.

What are they doing?
Let's try and empathise. They sell him, they probably still come first or second in their league which money wise is absolutely no difference from receiving a huge transfer fee.

In the CL they will be irrelevant with or without him. Unless they think they can make the final, the prize money difference again would easily be covered within the transfer fee.

So it's not a monetary thing. Is it a pride thing? It doesn't really make sense to me.

For example if a bid comes in for Ronaldo, I'd let him leave if I was a decision maker at United. What's the point of keeping a guy that outwardly doesn't want to play for your team?

We'll probably make a final bid they'll accept and all will be done.
Antony has burnt bridges now there's no going back.
He saw Gravenbach, Mazouri, Haller, Martinez all get their move, no way he is sticking around.
