When Martin Ødegaard was shopped around Europe as a 15-year old the most common advice for him was that he should join Ajax to develop since they are great at giving youth a chance and sell when they are ready to make the step up. I'm assuming that is how the club is viewed for players in South America and the rest of the world aswell.
Now, if what Antony says is true about him telling them his strong stance both in February and later in June, then it doesn't look good for their reputation outside of NL to reject the league's highest ever bid. Also their excuse of this being late in the window doesn't really hold up. Then again, both footballers and fans forget fast so that's probably what Ajax gambles on.
Not really mad at Ajax though, it's nice to see clubs hit back at player power sometimes and they're loaded anyway. Just a bit surprised that they reject such offers.
Also I know we should be against Antony's behaviour - it's just that the FdJ saga has hurt our pride so badly that it's refreshing to see a player doing everything he can to sign for us with means usually reserved for Barca and Real Madrid.
