When Martin Ødegaard was shopped around Europe as a 15-year old the most common advice for him was that he should join Ajax to develop since they are great at giving youth a chance and sell when they are ready to make the step up. I'm assuming that is how the club is viewed for players in South America and the rest of the world aswell.

Now, if what Antony says is true about him telling them his strong stance both in February and later in June, then it doesn't look good for their reputation outside of NL to reject the league's highest ever bid. Also their excuse of this being late in the window doesn't really hold up. Then again, both footballers and fans forget fast so that's probably what Ajax gambles on.

Not really mad at Ajax though, it's nice to see clubs hit back at player power sometimes and they're loaded anyway. Just a bit surprised that they reject such offers.

Also I know we should be against Antony's behaviour - it's just that the FdJ saga has hurt our pride so badly that it's refreshing to see a player doing everything he can to sign for us with means usually reserved for Barca and Real Madrid.

Ah come on, it doesn't bother me but it's a, player under contract trying to force a move. We all laughed at Kane in the same situation.

Ajax are under no obligation to sell. Why are they shady. If they decide they have no time to replace a player under contract that's their perogative.

They’ve known since February though.. their argument is just bull shit hence why he’s gone public

Tbh, as much as Ajax have a right to do whatever they want with their player, they had it coming.

They're being stubborn and thought they'd have us by the balls but it may have back-fired. The only saving grace for them would be that he needs to play for the WC.

Not sure how they can keep him now given this public statement, he obviously has his heart set on United and are they going to keep a player who has no interest playing for them anymore?

Happens a lot that players don't get the move they throw a strop for, and proper order.

Clearly from Antony's words, Ajax have had plenty of notice and time. We came to them with a more than fair bid - but now they're refusing to honour their side.

Is it REALLY in their best interests to keep a player that is so clearly unhappy? just accept the record offer and move on ffs

Bet you weren't so forgiving when Pogba wanted to leave us or towards Ronaldo right now (or the first time he left)

They are being offered the biggest transfer in their league history.

The best offer we got for Pogba was 30m + James and Ronaldo has no suitors right now

Perhaps it would have been smarter had he said all this and then we put in the bid

Not sure why you think smart has anything to do with our transfer strategy, heck our whole club.

Like you care about Ajax's best interests

I fecking love Antony

He is gonna be my favourite player at United 100%. This guy has huge balls.

Ajax you are hiding a child let that boy come home #MUFC

They evidently didn't expect the club to stubbornly turn down 90m fecking Euros  :wenger:

This is a last gap effort and a direct result of the exasperation from tthat

Baffles me why people are saying this reflects badly on Antony. It’s the total opposite.

He’s speaking out because they have tried to bullshit him in the meeting today that they don’t have time to replace him (despite him advising them in February he wanted to leave having fulfilled his part of the two year project they agreed on).

Ajax are looking very shady in all of this.

Exactly this. Ajax make Daniel Levy look trustworthy after this.

The interview doesn't shine Ajax in good light as a development team for agents and starlets. Antony claims Ajax are aware that the project was for him to play with Ajax for 2 years

So he should've signed a 2 year contract, not 5 years, if it was clear he'd want to leave in 2022....
He wanted the security for long term but Ajax has to let him go as soon as he's gaining some value?

Sorry, I want to see this guy at OT too, but Ajax have every right to demand whatever fee they want.

Not everyone laughed at all. Many people think if a player wants to leave and a club is offered a fair price they should be allowed to leave. The issue with the Kane thing was city were trying to bully and lowball Spurs. That isn’t the case here - an incredible fee has been offered. Harry Kane also isn’t 22 playing in Holland - for his own development he needs to move.

I don't at all you're right.

All I can see is an unhappy player wanting to leave, and they're refusing a RECORD fee just to be petty.

Do Ajax really think this ends well for Ajax if they keep him? he's going to be putting in half assed performances all the way until January, when it'll start all over again.

I get they don't want to give in easily but it's not like we're low balling them. It's a huge offer.

He told them he wanted out in February. I wonder had we approached Ten Hag back then and the two had this conversation.

How bad do Ajax look after Antony going public? Absolutely scathing.

I think we will sign him but unlike a lot of ye I think Ajax are playing a blinder. They either keep their contracted player, which they are entitled to do, or make a massive profit on a player that many had never heard of a year ago.

For sure I wont take Antony's story as gospel. I dont remember Ajax ever behaving like that and they are usually happy to play along in the interest of the player making a nice move. Surely there must be a reason why that was not the case with Antony. As said, it cannot be that they dont have replacement, there's plenty of quality for the front line in the squad.
