We waited until ziyech deal fell through, because we know they will knock it back again.

Glazers OUT

That price converted into pounds is about £76million. For reference, de Ligt and de Jong went for the same amount. I'm not actually sure if this is enough and we need to go higher...

The money that Chelsea are asking for is pretty cheeky, to be fair. Ziyech cost them around €40-44million. They're asking for the same amount of money back for a player that's two years older and who hasn't really settled/nailed down his position at Chelsea. He was an unused substitute in Chelsea's Champions League final win, for example. The profile of the player is not the same as the one they sold to Chelsea.

I do think it would be a decent move for all parties, at the right price. Something around €30million is probably fair, maybe €35 at the max, but that's probably pushing it a little.
No one is giving that money to Ziyech let alone Ajax. They would be better off with keeping that money for them and try someone from their academy.

That is true but football inflation was massively skewed ever since the Neymar transfer. If that version of Ronaldo or Nani was around today they would be going for around £100m plus.
That's not necessarily true though. Although Neymar transfer has skewed everything at that time, but still the most expensive signings over past 3 or 4 years won't go any higher than around 80-100m range. Antony is right at that range now. Back then Ronaldo or Nani transfer wasn't anything near the most expensive signing of the summer or anything.

For example, the summer we paid for Ronaldo, we have the likes of Beckham, Ronaldinho etc who went for significantly higher fees.

The summer we paid for Nani, we have the likes of Torres, Robben etc who went for significantly higher fees.

However, if Antony transfer does go through for reported price range, he could be crowned as the most expensive signing of the summer, for even higher fee than Tchouameni, Nunez, Haaland, Casemiro or De Ligt, who are all far more proven than Antony.

Well Ajax have now been added to my hate list. Such dumb behaviour from them.

This summer they will receive a massive amount, more than what the player is worth, next summer it will be less than what United are currently offering and they have to keep an unhappy player for another year.
That's just not true. Haven't Sancho, Maguire saga teached us anything? United is that stupid, we will come back next season with bigger offer.
It's within their best interests to sell him now, go out and buy someone like Gakpo
They don't even play in same position. You ain't even talking sense, mate
There's nothing wrong with them re-signing Ziyech, he's not that old and he's probably a better player now than when he left. Whatever they pay for him will be a good deal and there's very little risk of him leaving or not fitting into their system.
By that logic, why don't United buy Ziyech for 44m? He's EPL proven right? feck that, We all know Chelsea is taking the piss. No club is stupid enough to pay more than 25m for 30 year olds Ziyech, even United.

If they rejecting that fast, whats 100m? Looks like they seriously ain't selling him

Do you think we'd go even higher if they rejected the bid?
Probably. We’re in a bit of a bind here aren’t we? Supposedly walked away weeks ago yet here we are back again 6 days before the window closes still needing at least 2 attackers bidding prices we indicated we previously wouldn’t. If I was Ajax I’d test it and see how far we’re willing to go unless they can get a good replacement for a good fee.

Not sure they deserve hate or aversion for this. If they insist Antony won't be sold, maybe we shouldn't have tunnel visioned on him like that
They should. It's insanity from their perspective and it's purely just to 'appear' strong. Antony won't make or break their season and they could do so much with that ridiculous fee.

This is insane. He's worth probably around half that. 35-45m pounds. Ajax are stupid af here

Ajax is gonna drag their feet and then act like we were the problem. Getting a bad vibe on this now.

I think the price is mainly because this is Ajax's last chance to make huge money from the talent that ETH produced. I doubt they'll be having anything like the same output next summer, so it makes sense to "make hay while the sun shines" so to speak. I honestly think he's worth it, though. Every match I watched of Ajax last season, he not only was the best player on the pitch, but he improved steadily throughout the season. His ceiling is very, very high, because he's such a sponge for knowledge, and now he'll be at the club he wants, with the manager who has sculpted him, who believes in his progress so much that he's willing to break the club transfer record for him. I have no doubts Antony will be the best signing we've made in over a decade. Can't wait to see him in the Red jersey

I agree. They're better off going with someone new and fresh.

Regarding Antony, we're going to need to break their club record to sign Antony, if we still want to put in another bid. We're going to need to break the €100million barrier.

Premium: From the Johan Cruijff ArenA it still sounds that Antony is no longer for sale. The winger hopes that financial director Susan Lenderink and the supervisory board directors will intervene.

crazy that they are going to turn down the €90M offer....guess they are willing to have an unhappy player amongst themselves

we lose the additional "massive amount" margin on Antony if we immediately have to turn around and pay 20m over the market price on ziyech ourselves.
And not only that, but after agents, Sao Paulo percentage, etc. Ajax will only be left with like 60% of the fee anyway, so it would be like a trade of Ziyech for Antony + €10-15m profit. But then you have added an ageing player, with little resale value and a massive salary to the squad. The difference in salary between a Ziyech and Antony for this season will easily be in the 3-5+ million range, let alone any signing bonuses.
Plus we just signed Conceicao this summer with an eye of taking Antony's place next summer. That plan goes in the bin if we sign Ziyech on a permanent as well.

Any scenario other than Ziyech at a reasonable price (€20-25m) just means Ajax immediately lose any benefits of the premium in the United offer, so then why take it?

I can’t see a host of clubs queuing up to pay €90m-€100m next summer. This will be the highest big you get and that’s because we’re completely desperate after a terribly planned summer.

There’s only a few months of the season before the World Cup comes in and the January window, I’d take the money and run if I was Ajax.

They should. It's insanity from their perspective and it's purely just to 'appear' strong. Antony won't make or break their season and they could do so much with that ridiculous fee.
If he won't make or break their season, he'll likely not make or break ours as well. In my opinion they're absolute entitled to demand whatever they want if they deem him not for sale. Feel like we're the jokers here walking away earlier in the window and now scrambling back while Ajax' stance hasn't changed one bit

No, they shouldn’t.

They don’t need to sell - so why shouldnt they put a big fee on him?

Ajax have the right to keep him but refusing that money is a bit dumb.

Hard to hate them, they made their position clear.

To the de jong thread :(
