I feel like our officials are so much relying on the current results … and they are waiting for tomorrow’s result either to go hard for Antony or not … doesn’t make sense but nothing makes sense when it comes to Glazers

The thing is they can get Ziyech, they’re just choosing not to pay the money even though they’ve raked it in this transfer window, especially if they accept what we’re willing to offer for Antony.
Ziyech is not worth the fee chelsea are asking. just because we are choosing to overpay for a player doesnt mean they should, regardless of how much they have received in transfer fees this summer.

The problem for them is every club in Europe knows they’re about to receive €90m for selling Antony so they’re going to have to overpay for a replacement regardless. So it comes down to do you want to overpay for your first choice target who’s already proven and can easily slot back into your squad or overpay for your back up option who’s less proven and may struggle to adapt?

Then it's logical that they just keep Antony.

Its always a gamble holding onto a player who clearly doesn’t want to be there, he’s made that blatantly apparent by refusing to turn up to training and handing in a transfer request. It has the potential to unsettle the dressing room. He’ll integrate himself back into the squad eventually but I’d imagine things are already turning sour.

He's missed 3 training sessions and 2 games after this weekend. They don't know what type of player they'll get back if this falls through.

I know there is inflation but I don’t think they are anywhere near as expensive as the price we need to pay for Antony.

That is true but football inflation was massively skewed ever since the Neymar transfer. If that version of Ronaldo or Nani was around today they would be going for around £100m plus.

Doesn't exactly strike me as a player who will jeopardize his chances of making Brazil's WC squad because he didn't get his way. Once the window closes he will settle down. Maybe they will be more willing to part him in the winter. Or next summer.

With these owners i wouldnt be surprised that they stopped the transfer and just blame Ajax for the deal not to happen after we beat Liverpool. (they probably think we have a chance to get top 4 again)
I wouldn't blame the owners from walking away from this deal to be honest.
City rarely overpay for a player. They know what a player is worth to them and if the asking price is much higher they walk away.
We've been so poorly run for a long time, constantly overpaying for players and now clubs just look to fleece us every time. We have to stop letting it happen.

That's also true.

Wouldn’t Ziyech be an Eredivisie transfer record? That would make Ajax as big a laughing stock as us is in their homeland, I should imagine.

There’s no way they’ll spend €44m on Ziyech - an aged player who is coming back to the league a failure - is there?

It’s an interesting predicament:

- take all of the money and bring nobody in, essentially writing off current aspirations for the season.
- fall victim of the market and get rinsed by someone or other.
- take a loan in and avoid all of the market distortion.
- keep the player.

Obviously, loan sounds the best option, but that’s from the outside in; I’m guessing Ajax fans and club would rather keep the player?

That’s because they can afford to walk away in a football sense as well as financially…their base level is extremely high with or without new signings. Even without Haaland they would be challenging for the league. Not many you can say that about.

we on the other hand were looking at finishing bottom half or a relegation fight without signings.

Antony is going to leave this summer or next, he's been pretty open about playing at a bigger club.

This summer they will receive a massive amount, more than what the player is worth, next summer it will be less than what United are currently offering and they have to keep an unhappy player for another year.

It's within their best interests to sell him now, go out and buy someone like Gakpo for £50m then rinse us again in a couple of seasons for him, or worst case sell him on for way less in 4 seasons or so.

There's nothing wrong with them re-signing Ziyech, he's not that old and he's probably a better player now than when he left. Whatever they pay for him will be a good deal and there's very little risk of him leaving or not fitting into their system.

Honestly, as stupid as it seems, it wouldn't surprise me if the club really operates this way. They don't have a plan, they're reactive to the latest results. If we win tomorrow, they might just decide against this.

I refuse to believe Chelsea is asking for 45 mill for Ziyech.

I see some people saying they're doing it to scupper our chance to get Antony, that makes no sense when we'll most likely get Antony regardless of Ziyech.

Almost as if City won the league and were CL finalists last year and United have been a washed club for like a decade. Yeah. We’re totally in a similar position to start acting like them. I mean, it’s not as if City had to overpay plenty of times to get to where they are. It all just manifested out of thin air

The money that Chelsea are asking for is pretty cheeky, to be fair. Ziyech cost them around €40-44million. They're asking for the same amount of money back for a player that's two years older and who hasn't really settled/nailed down his position at Chelsea. He was an unused substitute in Chelsea's Champions League final win, for example. The profile of the player is not the same as the one they sold to Chelsea.

I do think it would be a decent move for all parties, at the right price. Something around €30million is probably fair, maybe €35 at the max, but that's probably pushing it a little.

Theyre right to do that though. 44m for Ziyech is stupid.

"An aged player"? Dude is in his 20s.

…Or the injury on Martial is worse then being told. I mean if Martial is out the rest of this year for example, imagine the prices other clubs would demand for their players. It’s bad as it it’s already.

Maybe the bid for Antony is being held because of this - money instead needed for a number nine?

Yeah that is a possibility

I hate this mindset of transfers hinging on whether Utd win, lose or draw league games

we lose the additional "massive amount" margin on Antony if we immediately have to turn around and pay 20m over the market price on ziyech ourselves.
And not only that, but after agents, Sao Paulo percentage, etc. Ajax will only be left with like 60% of the fee anyway, so it would be like a trade of Ziyech for Antony + €10-15m profit. But then you have added an ageing player, with little resale value and a massive salary to the squad. The difference in salary between a Ziyech and Antony for this season will easily be in the 3-5+ million range, let alone any signing bonuses.
Plus we just signed Conceicao this summer with an eye of taking Antony's place next summer. That plan goes in the bin if we sign Ziyech on a permanent as well.

Any scenario other than Ziyech at a reasonable price (€20-25m) (or ideally even a 1-year loan) just means Ajax immediately lose any benefits of the premium in the United offer, so then why take it?
