If I was Antony I would stay. Sure, he wants to leave and hes pissed at Ajax for not accepting the 60m bid. But he should also be pissed at United for not going in for him about 2 months ago when he wouldve gone for likely 40m thereabouts instead

People want to blame us, but Ajax have been playing silly buggers with us all summer. Not only with him, but Martinez as well.

Why are people obsessed with transfer fees. The Glazers have taken 2.2 Billion out of this club. Imagine those kind of money going into players instead.

Regarding Anthony and 80-100, if he is considered the next prodigy of Brazilian football, just pay the money. He knows the Ten Hag style of football, he hungers for success and he will melt in to the team with all the Brazilians and knowing the coach.

Ajax will soon be the richest club south of London..

I agree 100%. May as well be a player that costs 100m and not another dividend for the Glazers. But we know they’ll pull one out the club anyway.

If he is on strike then his agent has assurance from us that we will make a bid. Ajax will not go bellow our latest bid. So we will really end paying around 90 million for him. Which is mental for player with his stats and reputation.
I want the guy but it just feels wrong. Don't tell me that our scouts can't find right winger for 40 or 50 mil.
We will end spending 150+ million for two Ajax players for who, and lets be honest here, nobody here didn't knew much before this summer.

Isn't that with most transfers though? Or maybe it's just me, but id never heard of the likes of Luis Diaz, kulusevski, hakimi etc. Even going back further, I'd never heard of the likes of vidic, evra, chicharito.

Not our money but there is a budget which they are willing to spend. Those 100 mil can be spend much better. You can get excellent rw and rb for that money.
Eth just needs to allow our scouts to do their bloody job

Did they cost 100 mil? For 100 mil you buy premium quality not someone with lots of question marks and not so great stats

Tier 1 for Ajax - we had a 80m bid rejected, the fee is "certainly not under 100m euros"

We are a banter club.

Thanks to our scouts we bought Maguire and AWB for £130m. I'm not convinced we would buy a better RW and a RB for £100m if left to them

This. He 100% will not become new Mbappe or Ronaldinho. So 100 mil is his maximum price.
Lets wait one year and see what happens. If he kicks ass this year, we can pay 100 mil next summer. If he has average season we can move on or buy him for half price
I wouldn't want him to become the new Mbappe with all the attitude problems. Mbappe will flop big time when he moves to a bigger club.

But if they’re spending within the budget then what’s the problem?

It's annoying to keep seeing posts like "why do you care, it's not your money". That's how we ended up spending 130m on Awb and Maguire. Fred cost 50m ffs. Its not even about how these price tags affect our budget but just how plain stupid it is. Don't complain when clubs keep adding United Tax to selling their players. I think these fans don't care about the dignity of the club maybe because they think we don't have anymore

But if they’re spending within the budget then what’s the problem?
Problem is;
1) That they will not give a single euro for another winger for years after spending 100 on him. So, are we sure that this one is game changer and will become key player? Because for 100 mil you are buying key player, not depth. When you buy a winger for lets say 30 mil, you can always admit mistake, sell him and buy another. For 100 mil you are just stuck. Like we are with AWB or Maguire
2) That means also less or even zero money for striker or rb.

And still even Sancho dropped 50% of his efficiency in the EPL.Years and years of a world beater in the Bundesliga while now he is an average 5.5/10 player who could play for Leicester or Westham. Same will happen to Anthony. Those dribbler kind of players will be hit hardest by the difference of quality defending in England

Sancho would be quality in a functional system with good players around him. Sadly, we don't have that yet. In regards to Antony, it'll be very frustrating to spend €100m on him when we could've got Raphinha for less than that earlier in the summer.

40+ million more than our initial approach, 20 million more than our recent rejected bid, and now the door is open to 100m + addons.

This has got to be some kind of comedy skit.

There is very little chance we could have signed Raphina though. He had his heart set on Barca. I mean Chelsea actually bid higher for him and still he ended up at Badca.

But Antony and Martinez are two players our coach really wants. AWB and Maguire - well I don't know who the, ugly word, wanted them?

says who? We spent 70m on Sancho last year and can still afford Antony this year?
The truth is we have no idea what the budget is

We couldn't have got Raphinha though, he only wanted Barcelona, and even then his second choice would have been Chelsea, so his cost is irrelevant to us. We want Antony and Ajax have named their price. It is what it is

Not to mention the fact Leeds would never have accepted our bid.

That'll show 'em!

Budget is the same as always; every our new manager gets money in first window. After that budget is 50-60 mil.

Again, spending 100 mil on game changer who will be key player is not an issue. But spending 100 on a player who is highly unproven is a huge risk which can cost us in future.

Theres no way we were getting Raphina from fecking Leeds, especially considering it was only Barca he wanted.

Thread needs more people saying he's overpriced. It's only really after a couple of hundred times of seeing it that it starts to sink in

The issue with AWB and Maguire isn’t their price - it’s that they haven’t been good enough. If Antony is good enough to be the right winger for the next 7 years at a team expected to challenge for CL and PL titles then his price is irrelevant.

It's baffling how people are ok with this. The poster mentions Sancho costing 70m but people are ok with Antony costing more because "it's not my money"

Same worry I had with Sancho, the fee will put unreal pressure on a young player that still a lot to learn in a struggling team.

No doubting his talent but he joins for a huge fee, which is looking likely, then every mistake, every missed passed and missed chance will be blown out of proportion. With us struggling, he doesn't have time to come in and settle into the team, he will thrown in and expected to make an impact to hugely struggling team.

Of course he could thrive under the pressure, but I don't think it's fair to put this much pressure on a still raw young player.

Ten Hag obviously in a position to judge as he knows him but as well as ability wise, he's going to need to have the personality that comes with not only being a United player but a 100m euro one. The media will be waiting to go all in if he starts iffy (see Martinez) so he's going to needs to be able to cope with it and not shrink.

The fee isn't on him but it's never seen that way.

If only we'd gone in for him 22 years ago, we could have probably got him for 20p and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps.

I'm sorry but I hate the glazers as much as many on here but when fans pushing for us to sign a 30 year old casimero for 60 million and two Dutch league players for 60 million and 55 million you can't then start moaning next summer when we need another 150 million spent to supposedly fix things, there is no club that can sustainably do that every summer window let alone also demand signing to made in the winter window no matter how well run a club is.

This windiw is on course to be as bad as the summer ole went and brought Harry and bissaka for 130 million
#glazersout

would this be the first time that a player goes on strike and the buying club actually has to pay more than their last bid?

Is MUFC about to set a new record?

Get Gakpo, and come for Antony next summer.

Yeah if he's actually kicking up a fuss we need to hold firm on our last bid. It was already too high.
