I have no issue with the amount because of the profile of the player and his age. Left footed wingers are rare so when you see one that looks like he could be great, you grab him. How many high end left footed wingers are out there that are attainable? There just aren't many.

Second, for someone who is 22 years old, i'm fine with the price. That is the going rate for any young attacker with a lot of potential who has already played in the CL and shone. If he was 28 and we were spending this amount then I would have an issue. Joao Felix had barely done anything and had 3 CL appearances when he went for €113m. Vinicius went for €45m at 18 without setting foot in Europe and everyone was going crazy. Imagine how much he'd go for now. What you are buying is time and potential. Over the years he spends with the team, it will even out.
 
I'm sorry but I hate the glazers as much as many on here but when fans pushing for us to sign a 30 year old casimero for 60 million and two Dutch league players for 60 million and 55 million you can't then start moaning next summer when we need another 150 million spent to supposedly fix things, there is no club that can sustainably do that every summer window let alone also demand signing to made in the winter window no matter how well run a club is.

This windiw is on course to be as bad as the summer ole went and brought Harry and bissaka for 130 million

Correct, i am not saying that they are the same kind of players or anything. I just say Sancho HAD also something that PL attackers need and now he hasn’t got it anymore. Same thing can happen to Antony and the bigger the price pressure lies on him, the higher the chance it will happen.

How silly. We’ve signed several good players already with more to come. This is on course to be one of our best windows.

Very good reasons to get Antony with players like Martinez and Casemiro. Players that are technical, good passer of the ball but also press machines. Something this team is clearly lacking.

The fact that we are paying that much and there is still much uncertainty as you mentioned, is only proof that its a huge risk. Nobody would have moaned about a Haaland at 100million.

Defo not and he was scoring in Bundesliga and tearing it up, same way Sancho was amazing in the same league. A lot is down to the players around him and not helping out as much as needed so these players can focus on their own job rather than trying to compensate for a lack of quality in other positions and covering them as well. Antony could be a flop or could be the next balon dor winner only time will tell. Without the right players around him he could look ordinary at the beginning.

Maybe ETH wasn't sure if it was a priority then? Maybe he was sure Ronaldo would stay. But now he may be moving.
My point is that surely there is someone else in the market that would fit the system other than Antony? 100m? At that price we should buy you a couple of decent players rather than just risking it on one player.

I think Casemiro is a better bargain at 50-60million simply because you know he is a sure thing for at least a couple of years. Antony isnt.
 
Surely this will harm us in the long run with negotiating for other of our "top" targets?

Clubs will demand even dumber money off us then they already do.

I'm confident he won't. Very, very few players would and he doesn't strike me as that level of player.

For the fees quoted I think it's a crazy move. Surely there are a dozen wingers out there who'd do as good a job for half the price. That price tag will weigh so heavy on his shoulders, added to the normal United pressure.

But hey, I hope to be proven very, very wrong!

Tchouameni went for 80 mill euros, played in a better league and was chased by all the top teams PSG included. Yeah he's a DM but everyone in the game thinks he is heading for world class status as can be proved by selling Casmiro. Thats what you think you are getting when you pay these prices. If Ronaldo was 22 playing in Portugal i doubt he would go for much more than 80 unless you are thinking with hindsight. He would still be young, raw and unproven. Yeah Felix was more but that an oddity. Nunez just went for around 80, yeah you can say 100 but thats the whole package same as Antony. Liverpool are expecting to compete with Haaland for that fee or at least a top top striker. United should be expecting a top top player in Antony for that fee a well. If ETH is saying eh he's good and a useful addition and not kids fkin brilliant, 80 mills cheap mark my words or something like that then we are idiots paying that fee.

To be fair it isn't our job to know or have thought about a left footed alternative.

The club should have scoured the World long before now and identified some alternative targets.

The price was already ridiculously high at 80m. We had bid 60m which they rejected earlier in the summer. We then walked away and Ajax raised the price to 100m. He's always been a priority target, considering we bid so much for him earlier in the window already. The 60m is reflective of a slight overpay but well within the realms of similar talents.

These players you mention all have something in common which Antony doesn’t. They are all brought up in Dutch football playing the Dutch way and leagues. Antony is Brazilian, it’s a totally different slate.

at 100 million, he will be the 6th most expensive signing in PL history....not adjusted for inflation.

I actually do, I think we’re going to sign another 2-3 players before the window is up.

I’ve got concerns about where the money is suddenly coming from and the motives for spending it, mind you.

Ten Hag has worked closely with him and thinks highly enough of him that he's willing to go all out to bring him to United. That's good enough for me quite frankly, as I certainly don't spend my weekends watching Dutch football to be an expert on all these players we're interested in
