Make the 80 million € bid and sit back and watch Antony throw a tantrum. They should be ok with that price.

He is worth more than 50 million because he has many years left on his contract, so stop moaning.

He does look good, I want him. Might not have the numbers but looks infinitely more talented than Gapko.

Agreed! This place is sadly becoming a reflection of the state of our club.
The funniest thing I saw is that people are saying he is a bad example for demanding to move and skipping training. In a time where we complain about the lack of players who play for the badge, here is a player who wants to play for the badge, and he's being bashed for that!

If this was an English player with a 100 mil price tag then people would be losing their mind.

A Brazilian prospect from the eredivise people are more open with..

80+20 is steep, granted, but this is the cost of ten Hag insisting on certain targets. No doubt he's communicated to Arnold and Murtaugh that certain players are necessity and almost certainly heavily plan A and plan B. We could move onto a secondary target, and a cheaper one at that, but undoubtedly ten Hag will stress that certain players must be gotten whatever the cost.

Something about Antony. A touch of potential world class about him. Honestly, it might not work out, but we'd get gutted if he got a move to City and lit it up for Pep.

I think that’s unfair on Ajax. They’ve always been pretty reasonable in transfer dealings. They’ve lost a lot of players this summer. The season has started. They don’t need the money. They just don’t want to sell the player hence it’s going to take a silly fee to prize him away.

It’s a fine balance for clubs like Ajax who give players a stepping stone to go on to bigger things but at the same time have to keep some balance where they aren’t just shipping players out every time they become good.
I agree with this. Ajax is a very likeable team and the best when it comes to developing young talents. I would do the same with Antony under current circumstances. Just pay the fecking fee.

Agree to disagree, but Grealish for £100m was a far safer bet than Antony for €100m in my opinion. And he still has to be considered something of a failure up to now at least

Antony is 4 years younger than Grealish, unproven in the PL but has more CL experience. Both are full internationals.

United are trying to get the player from the best domestic team from that country. City were poaching from a smaller club.

Obviously there are differences and both are overpriced but it is what it is. Don’t see too much fuss really.

In truth I'm more concerned with the potential salary we'd offer rather then the transfer fee.

An £85m fee with a 6 year contract at £120k a week is a totally different gamble than an £85m fee with a 6 year contract at £280k a week.

People need to also factor the huge saving in wages the club is making this season and next (when Ronaldo goes).

Fees are always structured and spread over years/various ad-ons too.

It’s not as simple as you suggest.

Sure, we have extra room to manouver this summer due to the wages lost, no doubt.

But it's still a limited budget. And we still have several more transfer windows of rebuilding ahead after this, during which we will no doubt see posters complaining about us not being able to spend more on X position or Y player. Dropping an extra 50m or whatever now is what adds to those future constraints, so it's right that people are concious of how much we spend.

But as I say, if we're going to overspend (and we probably have to given the circumstances) it's better that it's on first choice picks like Antony. Because for all we know passing on him will just lead to us overpaying for a lesser option down the line, which is a bit of a false economy.

From the times, June 23rd

We been on this for 2 months. Looks like Ajax been playing a game of sike with us. We bid 60m, they tell us 70m, we bid 70m they tell us 80m, we bid 80m they tell us 90m etc. So now Antony has to force it because the window is closing soon and then maybe we go for someone else like Gakpo and Antony never gets his move to us.

Yeah. Makes sense.

Solskjaer wanted them. He picked them. How many times it must be said. For Maguire he literally said; "Maguire was my no1 target".
erm.. our coach wanted them mate

Fair enough, but I still think those two was in the "We want English players who knows PL"-area. But what we really got was two players good at defending their own penalty area in lesser teams. Not "pro-active" players who are capable of the modern type of players able to do the offensive part as well.

In all of the world of football, you are telling me there is no other winger we can buy with similar qualities? At this price he needs to come and carry the attack.
