Personally, I think that Nani is definitely the more talented of the two. While Valencia at his best is great, Nani at his best is better in my opinion.

The difference between the two of them is that Nani is still often largely inconsistent, while Valencia is a very consistent player for us.

I would tip my hat towards Nani at this point in time, simply because last year he played out of his skin for the majority of the season, we have to remember that he was one of our key players in that title winning side.

Valencia, through no fault of his own, has never performed at the level he is at now for that sustained period of time. If I remember correctly he was subdued earlier on in this campaign.

They are both in the top five wingers in the world and we should be delighted to have them both.

As with all creators, both can seem pointless when they're really off form. A rare occurance. Tony the more dynamic, a veritable force of nature when on song. Really energises the team and , no less important last night, the crowd. Drove towards the away support the whole way through the 2nd half, kept the intensity high. Nani far more likely to create something from nothing and looks second to pretty much nobody in the world (with the obvious exception) when he's at his peak. Been a while since we've had both fit and in top form simultaneously but they're 2 incredible talents.

Tony is much more consistent than Nani, but Nani considerably more talent. That's not a slight on Tony, Nani is one of the most gifted players around, on his day he's unplayable.

Both of them benefit from a run in the team, like most players. They seem to do a good job of getting injured as the other is coming back, I guess that's a good thing!

It's a safe bet you've never learned a second language yourself.

Right okay. Good, relevant point.

I think his education wasn't great living in the area that he did so it's understandable that people like Valencia and Tevez struggle with it. And some people just find it harder to learn languages than others. Wouldn't be surprised if he understands English well but he's just a bit shy, seemed that way in the interview.

Yeah that is all true Brwned. Although plenty of other players from poor backgrounds learn another language, especially considering the time he has been in England. Six years should be ample time to learn the language I think, but like you say it's harder for some people than others.

It isn't a big deal and I'm not bothered about it, but being able to speak the same language as your team mates and coaching staff can only be a good thing. Also, in terms of settling down in a new country speaking the langauge would be beneficial for the players happiness surely?

Agree with your last point, he definitely came across as shy and the way he answered the question indicates he has a decent grasp on it.

Forget the Nani versus Valencia debate, the masses on this site rate Nani as better than Rooney. Flair is the only thing important to them, overall importance or effectiveness does not matter.

Or they see more than the goals. Obviously that's what wins you games, but the fact Rooney is a forward means he's likely to score more than Nani. So I've got no problem if someone wants to see a bigger picture.

Personally I'm not fond of any of those debates. We've got some great players who are quite different from one another, even if they play in a similar position. Wohoo!

Does he have 13 or 12 league assists then?

I update the statistics thread after every game and he has 13 assists. But we can read almost everywhere he has one less. Premier League website says it's 15 in all competitions (he had one in Champions League and one in FA Cup = so that's 13 as well).

I had a look at ESPN website, it says 12. I compared it to our thread and the one they don't have is his assists for Berbatov's penalty against Stoke. It must be his assist. Or I don't remember something?

His assists according to the statistics thread:
1 v Blackburn 2-0, 2 v Wolves 5-0, 1 v Liverpool 2-1, 1 v Stoke 2-0, 1 v Arsenal 2-1, 1 v Blackburn 2-3, 1 v Wigan 5-0, 1 v Fulham 5-0, 1 v QPR 2-0, 3 v Wolves 4-1.

You might be right. "When on his game." How often does that happen?

I don't watch Spurs every week by any means, maybe I'm being unfair. When I see Lennon more often than not he looks pretty erratic. More Walcott than Young.

Yes. It's as if Ronaldo was here. We always see diagonal passes go in to the right, trying to release Valencia. It's as if we are always expecting something from him.

And that increases the fear in the opposition. We should never underestimate how important it is to have a player that makes the other team sweat. When you have someone who people feel they need to watch rater than play their own game it immediately puts you on the front foot. Opposition players wont attack quite as much for fear of getting caught out on the counter.

When we had the artist formerly known as CR7 it covered over a number of weaknesses in our team because nobody, barring Barcelona, was confident enough to try and exploit them for fear that if they failed a quick ball to Ronaldo would rip them apart. Valencia isn't at the level where he has defenders literally tying themselves in knots when they see the ball at his feet but he could be. Especially if he starts letting off more shots on goal. He's never gonna be as skillful as Ronaldo but in his own way he could be equally as effective.

I hope his surgery goes well...

Do you have any YouTube clips of defenders literally tying themselves in knots when they saw the ball at Ronaldo's feet?

I thought the QPR full back did pretty well against him considering the amount of times he was facing him up. He's seen an incredible amount of the ball these last two games.

Just perusing stats from the game. Valencia completed 94% of his passes. Second only to Scholes. For a winger that's insanely good.

He also made more tackles and interceptions than our full-back on the same flank.

His pass completion percentages for a winger are generally insanely good.

Very impressive. He needed to, given the mare Rafael was having.

We were so predictable though. Everything was geared to getting the ball out to Valencia, we made no effort to attack down the left, it makes it a lot easier to defend against even with ten men.

To be fair, we've been over reliant on our wingers in recent years. When they've had off days we've looked incapable of creating anything.

This season the difference at times has been the Ginger Prince, still capable of creating something from nothing.

10 men but two to three were over on that side , even w/ 11.

I actually think he had a better game than some give him credit for. In the MOTM thread his name was hardly being mentioned at all, when I feel that he deserved a place in the top 3.

Yep. Its only natural we go for our most in form player though. Better than passing it to the left to have Young and Evra "combine" to either put in a bad cross or play it back to Scholes.

Once Rooney gets back to his creative best and Nani comes back, we'll be a lot less predictable. Not sure we'll see that this season though.

Not the right thread to go into it, but yeah, he was one of our worst players on the pitch. Considering he had little to do defensively, he did a lot of it wrong.

It's only one game, chill, he's still class.

Big piece in Spanish.

Nevertheless, one of his first trainer, Peter 'Papi' Perlaza, was impressed by his temerity to collide with opponents.

In May 2009, the Manchester United defender John O'Shea told The Sun that hit Antonio Valencia is similar to do it against a steam train.

In 1999, the 'Daddy' saw him playing on the dusty pitch of Carlos Vernaza and went straight arrow, seeing that skinny wheel, cutting face fungus and malgenio boy.

 'Daddy'?

FACE FUNGUS!

Completely lost his form the last couple weeks. I'd put him on the bench against City.
Don't forget to bump this when he starts and scores against them.
