Might as well blame Valencia too (shakes head)

Football fans today eh. Ha ha

A shit defensive display, we've had a few this year. Our forward players were superb.

The Valencia of the past few weeks is no longer willing to take on fullbacks one on one. He's lost the one trick that made him such an effective one trick pony (and I mean that in the most adoring and complimentary way possible). He drifts inside far too much now and still won't use his left foot. He can get away with it on the touch line, but you've got to be a bit more adaptable inside.

He hasn't lost it, he's just in poor form and hasn't got much confidence seemingly.

Nothing to do with good/bad form for him. He doesn't have the ability to create any space for himself. He needs our midfield to be dictating and the resultant free space to do his thing. Look up every game where United haven't bossed the middle of the pitch, and you'll see Valencia had almost always had a quiet/poor match.

This is the advantage Nani has over Valencia, when possession is hard to come by, or in tight spaces, he has the ability to retain and move it forward. Valencia is forced to pass back.

This result of course has little to do with him, we scored 4 goals ffs...so our attack wasn't the issue.

As for him form, for 80 minutes against Blackburn he was rubbish, but then had a great 10 minutes, the goal, and then the lay off for the 2nd goal by Young.

Yeah that's the issue with Valencia, in the right situation he's unplayable but in some games, similarly to Hernandez he can get found out. Tbf though I also think he's suffered from Fergie making him play far too many 90 mins unnecessarily. I think we've been a bit poor with our subs in recent times, not resting players when we could.

17 minutes of playtime for one of our top threats in such a crucial game.

Anyone care to explain what he isn't offering the team that the others do/did, and therefore not worthy of a start?

Should have started at right back.

Strong, good defensively, experienced and a threat going forward. Everything Jones is not.

I was surprised we didn't bring him on at fall back when we were chasing. Jones constantly had space to work with but bar one ball failed to utilise it. We could really have done with Valencia fizzing in some crosses, as with Kompany and Lescott we weren't gonna win it in the air.

I just can't figure out why he was not starting. The only season I can think of is that he was targeted heavily in his last games.

And to start Park ahead of him was mental.

I agree. Not just saying that with hindsight, thought with Jones off form and Rafael poor last time out that Valencia and Nani in tandem down the right would have done serious damage.

Think Valencia was left out cos he can struggle without Rafael behind him overlapping. The last game Rafael missed was Wigan that Valencia played very poorly in. I did fancy Nani's unpredictability to have more joy against Clichy, who has had difficulty in the past against him.

He must feel awfull after being droped in biggest game of the season. I feel sorry for him, I really do.

Probably in the minority but I didn't think he did enough after coming on. Would've rather had Chicharito.

Much like his issues of the past few games, he went too far infield and wasn't getting to the byline or taking men on. I know it also depends on the midfielders getting the ball to him, but he's too easily taken out of his comfort zone.

Very unlucky not to get a start, especially with Giggs getting a game. But didnt do much in his cameo to suggest he'd have fixed our issues on the night.

With the possession we had at the City game and an out of form Jones at right back, I'm quite calm. I doubt Valencia would have made a difference.

We played so narrow on Tuesday and their fullbacks were joining in the attacks, with Valencia playing, they would think twice before even going forward.

Valencia played at right back for us at times. And he good at retaining possession as well. It's still bothering me that he was on the bench against City.

He may or may not have made a difference but benching your most in form winger and starting someone who was out for a long time against a team like them is madness. Or a supposedly 'master tactic' gone horribly wrong.

feck.

Dont think he was that great today

With Valencia's predictability, he works much better with an overlapping RB that causes defenders to move out of position, giving him space to run into, where he is devastating. When the space isn't there, he doesn't have the trickery to get by them.

Still always works hard and is disciplined, which made it a truly mind-boggling decision not to play him on Monday.

Does anybody else have the figures of how we did when valencia was RB?

i personally feel that he should be played as a RB with nani at times more often.

With nani having the ability to float inside a bit like nasri / silva, it leaves acres of space for valencia to stretch there defence even further.

Our Antonio likes to chat. :D

My friend's friend had a facebook videochat with him last night. She asked him if that's his real fb profile, and he answered that it's really him. She said that she doesn't believe him, than Antonio answered: "Let's go videochat and I will prove you". After he showed up she couldn't believe it was really him, she almost got an heart attack

Here is the proof:

They talked for a while, later his daughter even showed up too. She said he is a great guy, he asked her where she's come from, is there lot of Manchester United fan's in Macedonia, and stuff like that.

I'm jelaous.
