The question is, is it the fault of the player or the manager. The first one can be solved with new recruitment, the second can't.
I agree, we can't know for sure but it's a question that needs asking, in the modern game the attacking width from the fullbacks is crucial.
Yeah and then slowed down eternally to let their whole team back. Yes that one.
Wish we signed Aurier.
Atleast he'd bother taking his man on or put a cross in.
That 3 on 2 counter summed up Valencia.
So he could add an extra feck up and we would be 3-0 down?
What feck up?
He's been impressive for Spurs. Oh noes he gave away a pen so he's instantly shit.

He also got sent off against West Ham for more stupidity.
He's also been the best right back in the league this season.
We have no alternative to Valencia. He was probably exhausted playing two games in three days at his age.
Hasn't he played in 2 games and got sent off in one?
Best right back in the league
And was impressive against Dortmund and Real Madrid.
Also gave away the most stupid penalty against Real.
I too was frustrated with Valencia today, but that run made me realize how awful we are at making runs in front of the defenders. Both attackers in front of Valencia ran in a straight line sticking to their defender; subsequently, neither of them opened up space for Valencia to run into, rather the opposite where they brought the defenders into Valencia's path, and neither busted their lungs to get ahead of their attackers to be played through. It was terrible attacking. Valencia wasn't good there either, but the options to play were terrible. He could have gone for it himself, but then he would have ran into one of our other players.
The guy is an absolute jumblybollox mess going forward. You can't look at Valencia and go "I am going to make this run because this is his move and he'll play this ball" you just absolutely don't ever expect to know what the hell he is going to do because I doubt even he knows until he does it and we all go "there it is lads, deal with what that was".
I like to think of it like this. If you were one of Valencia's team-mates what would you be expecting out of him? What would you be looking for when making runs and getting free of your man?

His delivery is constantly a mess, the going forward part is constantly an inconsistent mess and the contributing tempo to the attack is always mess.
I love him as a defender and he is always one vs one pretty solid and tight to his man (his positioning in general can be a bit all over the place at times). But he's not a fullback and I'd genuinely prefer us to buy a proper fullback and for him to go back to being a forward to play the winger position and play a direct wingers role with no defensive strings attached and just bomb up and spanner the ball into Lukaku all day because that would be a better use of his ability.
We absolutely need to sign a proper fullback there who can push him out of the team next year and challenge him for that spot.
Should be proactive and start looking for a successor.A solid display, he's a reliable performer but I'd love to know if he's playing within himself due to his knee or Jose's instructions.
And Delle Ali gets a free kick.Excellent today. He never dives - poor decision from the ref
And Delle Ali gets a free kick.
He gets into position a lot, and as such occupies the opponent, but his actual contribution in attack is sub-par.
Perhaps he should try to go centrally more and do short passes, because his crosses really are aimless.
To be honest, I am surprised that his 'attack score' is better than Walker's. I would say Walker is the all round better attacker.
I was bored so:
Valencia twice Walker's attack score.
Let's face it, and we don't need stats to tell us this, Valencia has developed in to an incredibly solid RB with pace, power and a good engine and he doesn't make mistakes, but he's not giving Utd anything from an attacking standpoint.
Incredibly basic on the ball and reserved consistently passing sideways, doesn't drive in to space and can't cross.
FB's are so important now from an attacking standpoint and Valencia doesn't cut the mustard in that regard at all. He's miles behind Walker in the race for the best RB in the PL for that reason.
