Liverpool 0:0 Man Utd
Did fine defensively but wasn't really a factor in attack.

To be honest the whole team wasn't a factor in attack. I thought he was very good defensively though, especially in the first half where he made quite a few important interceptions.

He went on one attacking run, and that was pretty darn good, but other than that, he, like the rest of the team, was a little passive. His passing was also surprisingly poor.

Benfica 0:1 Man Utd
My favourite player but he really needs to grow some balls and attempt some forward runs or passes. He needs to stand about two yards further when taking passes from the centre backs.
Maybe it's orders from management but it looks like he is just scared of positive play

I have grown on Valencia as a fullback over the years, but whenever he is asked to be bit more careful and stay bit more defensively, he does absolutely nothing in attack, and not just that, his build up play turns into shit and he just opts for long balls instead of trying to carry the ball forward or try to to build up play forward with some smart interchange and passing. Our fullback are doing feck all in big games, and we have a big problem there.

If the manager gave him instruction to do those then he's not going to ignore it.

I am not sure his lack of creativity/quality/balls with the ball is down to manager's instruction.

He is shite as an attacking full back, But I wont bother arguing this as people have grown to accept it.

He's got so much stamina. I wonder if he could go on like Zanetti and play till he's 40.

I love everything about him until he is in the final third.

As I’ve said he’s good at supporting his winger but I’ll grant you that his final delivery and creating space for himself past the last man isn’t what it should be. You have to take him as a whole package and realise his positives outweighs his deficiencies.

Decent perofrmance from El Tanko, always pretty reliable, hasn't fully hit his stride this season yet.

Decent preformances after a needless yellow. Really feel he'd benefit from having someone with pace or delivery in front of him however as he just can't cover the whole right touchline on his own given how all our wide options love to drift inside

Well, if you check the heat maps of Squawka.com Valencia vs Benfica today and compare it with Valencia vs Palace, Valencia vs Southampton & Valencia vs Everton. You can see today against Benfica, the manager gave him an instruction to sit deep. Unless if you are using "lack quality of going forward" as an excuse to criticise player who clearly didn't have the license to go forward too much today then I have nothing to say. We are all know Valencia normally plays in two roles in a match full back and a winger at the same time. But today he plays totally like a full back.

People don't seem to get that player's roles can change from game to game.

I like him but without doubt he pisses me off every single game he plays because he does the same shit every week, run, stop, jiggle left, jiggle right, pass the ball back to (insert player who plays instead of Carrick) or kick it at the shins of the defenders, fecking pathetic for a united player.

Also how many times per game does he stop/slowdown an attack because he has to swivel round like a fecking ballerina to get on to his right foot, what makes it worse is his left foot seems pretty good, most frustrating player by a country mile.

I started my first post by saying that this happens when he plays more deeper than usually.

I've never seen another player let the ball come to a complete stop while everyone stands around and he shimmies about behind it and then just passes it backwards. It is downright bizarre.

Tank in defense though.

Im struggling to remember Valencia not being a right back. Who started playing him as right back first? Seem to have the notion it was Fergie at Anfield for some reason.

And it happened because he has to follow the manager's instruction. He's not going to carry the ball forward if his job was to sit deep.

Huddersfield 2:1 Man Utd
Is it possible he is playing injured these past few games?

Wish we signed Aurier.

Atleast he'd bother taking his man on or put a cross in.

That 3 on 2 counter summed up Valencia.

Oh, you mean the one where he beat two players to get into that position?

2nd half was so negative from Valencia. He didn't even bother attacking. He positioned himself up the field but that was it.

It amazes me some people consider this guy the best RB in the PL in an era where it's so important for them to provide an impact offensively. He's done really well to learn the position from a defensive standpoint as he doesn't make mistake and he's strong, quick and gets up the pitch well, but the guy can't cross and rarely ever even attempts to do so.
