He hasn’t been overrated at all, this is ridiculous. He has been arguably the best right back in the league these past few season since playing there. He may not be grew going forward but he proved himself defensively. He is not even overrated now as everyone thinks he is shit. He is still ‘good’ but no where near the level we need at the moment.

Everyone is wrong.

Just adds to our many problems on the right wing. Full back who can't cross and doesn't even attempt to take on players anymore and our wingers spend more time playing as no 10s than they do on the wing.

I think he knows his pace is going and he doesn't trust himself to defend in space anymore. He rarely applies pressure on his man and instead allows them a chance to run at him. Just been a massive regression from him overall this season.

I think he'd be fine a backup option for the next year or two but we absolutely need to add an upgrade over him in the short term as well as a quality long term option moving forward if TFM isn't up to snuff.

I've been a Valencia sympathizer at times on this forum but he does look like he's on the wane now. We need a full back who can cross and not be so one dimensional.

He's 32, so it's not a surprise he's on the way down in his career.

We need to get another RB this summer to give him more of a break. He's been a fantastic servant to the club but we cannot rely on him being 1st choice all by himself next season.

He is too heavy for a right back.I'm not sure why but he looks bulkier and heavier than ever before. That's going to slow you down a lot. You have to be more nimble and agile.

No idea why we're all referring to him slowing down with age. Even if he was as fast as a peak Usain Bolt, he still wouldn't run at a defender.

He's been carrying an injury for months now. Needs a good rest to get fully recovered.

Been a great servant but he looks a bit shot mentally more than anything. He's obviously lost a little physically but he's still in decent shape.

Terrible for the first ten minutes, then dominated Son defensively.

Agree. He did well defensively.

However, the moment in first half when he tried to do his usual dribble past players and it ended up getting intercepted easily was very sad for me to see. Valencia was doing these kinds of dribbles very easily in the past.

Agree with the last part. I don’t think he’s lost much speed, but he has lost a fair bit of agility. May be down to an injury, let’s see.

Caught out positionally again for the goal but Smalling should have helped him instead of running across and leaving him exposed.

Pulling down an opponent when on a yellow card for a reckless challenge, was brain dead play; lucky not to get a 2nd yellow card. Struggled for the first 20 mins. Surprising that Spurs didn't target him more in the 2nd half.

He was lucky his yellow card offense was not a red. What was he thinking going in with 2 feet like that?

Then that moment at the end? What was he doing?

Offered noting going forward. Good defensively after the awful start. Needs upgrading ASAP though.

Worked hard and defended agressively, gets caught out a bit though and doesn't help the offense much.

The Machine strikes again, we need to move him, otherwise we might have another case of Ivanovic, if he is still around, doubt JM will turn his back on him that easy.

Think he got away with being sent off. Totally misjudged the ball going out and then panicked.

Definitely should be his last season as first choice right back.

He's been a great player in the past and he's still defensively fairly solid. But time to replace him as a starter. Too many times the pressure breaks down when he gets the ball.

Think his body is just slowly giving up on him.

Don’t even want to be that critical of him because he plays every game and tries his best, and his deterioration is just natural.

He's not a very good player anymore. Our full backs are terrible, even when we win it's still obvious that's our weakest area.

What was his yellow card for? Completely missed it and only realised at HT he'd been booked

His physicality is important. Doesn't let a team like Tottenham foul and intimidate with impunity.

Had a tough task today. Came up against a very good winger in Son, who kept the width for Spurs, and made it tough for Valencia.

All in all, I felt he did ok, though. Got stuck in as usual, but he's definitely getting older. He and Young will both be 33 next season. We do need to find replacements, but I think he should definitely be a squad player. Great professional.

Came in to post this. I think he probably got away with it because he blocked rather than pulled, which doesn't really make any sense because either way it was cynical and stopped a promising attack.

I'd have hooked him at HT tbh. He was awful today but there's no shame in being undone by a player as good as Son in form. He's still a much better player than the next best option we have.
