Yes, do not want him here either. I genuinely think the people on this board thinks he is better than he really is
Agreed. Dropping 100 million for him would be madness when we could get one and a half players for that money. He looks like he needs perfect pitches in all perfect conditions with perfect passes played into his perfectly rolled socks to do the stuff that makes up those youtube highlight reels.

I think you're all overreacting a little. I still think it's done; this is just a play to the gallery.

What half a player would you sign?

Looks like Jose plans to use Griezmann as the 10 and Rashford as a 9 in the future then.

Train-wreck of a post. You obviously haven't watched much of Griezmann these past few seasons. The fact that you state such dribble whilst admitting your judgement of him is based on Youtube videos is laughable.

Was thinking the other day what other strikers are out there, available and good enough to play for us (and replace Zlatan). None bar Griezmann.

I have been a advocate of Griezmann for years now, but i hope if we get him it does not block Mkhitaryan presence in the team. if it does, i would rather spend on a proper winger.

I think he was being facetious, mate.

I've seen Griezmann a few times for France and seen highlights of him for Atletico. To anyone who has seen him play on a regular basis, what is his best position. The few 90 mins games I've seen him, he seems to play as a 10. He doesn't strike me a number 9. I haven't seen a lot of him tbh so I stand corrected if wrong.

He is best as a slightly withdrawn SS(second striker). That's the position he played to get into the Ballon D'Or top 3. He was a right sided attacker/winger at Sociedad iirc before his move. Came to Aleti and Simeone played him on the right at first I believe and he struggled a bit. Then he moved him into the center behind Mandzukic initially(I believe it was) and he took off.

I am sure he could play perform as a lone striker as well. Don't think he's ever played that role though as far as I know.

If we buy him and stick on the right, it'd be a waste imo. Rather sign Dybala then if that's our plan or an actual right sided winger.

What tells you that? IMO it's Martial-Griezman-Mikhi behind Ibra/Rashford or he ain't coming.

José won't play him as a striker or false 9, and if he is to be shunted to the wide areas I can see him doing that sacrifice to play for Barca but not us.

Unless he is coming as a 10, I can see Barca selling Neymar and signing Antoine.

Just from what Duncan Castles said. Said he is rooneys replacement and plans to use rashford as the 9.

I watch a lot of Atletico.

Griezmann is a really clever player who would combine well with Mkhitaryan on the center to right side, with Pogba and Martial on the center to left, a striker up top and a CM ahead (and slightly to the right) and behind those pairs. In tougher games where we go 4-3-3 I think he'd be a slightly better 9 than Zlatan and a better RW than Mata, though Mkhitaryan's pace means he wouldn't be a big upgrade there. Having Griezmann, Martial, Mkhitaryan and Mata fighting for 3 spots behind Ibra (backed up by Rashford) looks perfect to me. Depth, but lots of playing time for everyone. If we go 4-3-3, I think it would lead to Mata or Mkhitaryan being marginalized and leaving.

Griezmann's not a great dribbler but he makes the correct decision over and over and is a bright, quick player good at basically everything if not great at any one thing. Among Prem players, I guess I would compare him to an on song 2010-11 Rooney or maybe the goalscoring (better left foot and long-range shooter though) and runs of a prime Robbie Keane except also having the playmaking and creativity of a 10, not at the genius level of a Silva or Ozil but a solid Cazorla or Oscar normal very good 10 level, though he seems to be getting even better at that lately and might end up at an in-between level.

99 absolute prime Dwight Yorke is sort of before my time, but maybe that works too?

Actually, Ilikw the notion of going 4-2-3-1 with him at 10 and when we go 4-3-3 playing Martial-Griezman-Mkhitaryan.

We shouldn't be planning long term for Zlatan.

Pogba is a headache for a coach in tactical terms while Griezmann is a gift from heaven because the latter can play everywhere (LW, RW, SS, CF) if necessary.

However, his best role is certainly the Support Striker one.

The way Mata is currently operating as a nominal RW while spending most of his offensive time drifitng and making runs in behind Ibra, it feels like we are prepping for Griezmann so he can play from there and we can keep Mkhi in the #10 as the player that knits the attack together.

I think that would depend on how long Valencia will be able to control the RW on his own as he does today.

I think we'll be looking for a RB this summer to blood in ready, and Mata does his defensive work on the flank when we don't have the ball, Griezmann has a high workrate and is faster than Mata so should be able to get back to help quicker, plus Herrera is usually on the right side of the midfield whether he's in a 2 or a 3 and gets out there to cover when Mata tucks in.

“I think next summer can bring a few surprises at this level and probably Paul will lose this status as the world’s most expensive player, which will probably be a good thing.”

That quote made me think it might not be for Griezmann but for someone else or even other clubs. I think We dont need to break the record for Griezmann. His release clause is a bit lower. Maybe he is hinting towards city wanting messi? Or someone being in for Neymar? He also goes on to say that you will see players will be bought at similar prices who have less quality than pogba. So maybe he is hinting towards someone else.

Wasn't it Delaney himself who said that Griezmann had already agreed terms with us a few weeks back?
On this article, he says that we want Kroos. If true, I wonder if it's related to de Gea going the other way.

I don't think anyone is debating personal terms. But there does seem to be an emphasis on CL, which was discarded on here, as not really being an issue a few weeks ago.

Well I'm not too sure Griezmann would agree to personal terms if he wasn't sure he wanted to join here in the first place. It's all speculation either way, so I guess it's just a waiting game.

I think he could agree in principle but his final decision will rest on CL.

I'd much rather us put the £85-£100 million that Griezmann would likely cost towards one of Bakayoko or Kessie or Kroos, Dembele (the Dortmund one), Kyle Walker and Lindelof.

Do we really need Griezmann when we've got Mhkitaryan and Mata who are probably both as good as Griezmann and play in the same positions, there's also the fact that Griezmann coming in means less time for Rashford and Martial and us being overloaded up top.

Just say for arguments sake that Rooney stays next season then we'd have Zlatan, Rashford, Martial, Mhkitaryan, Mata, Rooney and Lingard vying for 3 or 4 spots depending on formation so Griezmann isn't a priority signing.

You kid yourself if you think £100m would get those players. Most of them aren't for sale under any circumstances.
