It is during the football season.

I wouldn't say its dramatically different to most of Europe, plenty have more rain and similar temperatures during the football season. Our reputation is worse than the reality.

Madrid is probably one of the exceptions though so yeah he'd probably think it was shit even at a London club.

If the weather is the problem then make sure he has no reason to step outside? Put him in a gold plated hall decked out with every console and game on the planet and have him hand fed champagne drenched caviar whilst Holly Peers bounces on his John Thomas and he'll soon forget that weather even exists.

Griezman's interview tells me 2 thing:

"Who knows how the season will finish. If it finishes badly, maybe I will ask myself the question. For the moment, it is not relevant."

1) The above quote isn't the profile of player we should be going for. Someone who flirts with fleeing after a bad season.

"Barcelona have the three [Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez] up top. Real Madrid, that is impossible because of the club I am at. I think that between them, there is a pact [not to conduct transfers between the clubs"

"And England, I have a lot of doubts about my private life. Everything like rain, bad weather… I need to feel happy outside."

2) He clearly isn't keen on English life & going from above, I can genuinely see him sticking it out at Atletico for another year and then moving to Barcelona as a long term replacement for Suarez (who will be 31 at the time).
That first quote is really concerning.

That first quote is really concerning.

Or maybe he's just realising that the wave Atletico have been riding these last few years is ebbing out, and if they don't get champions league football for next season or Simeone leaves etc there's little point for him to hang on.

I won't believe anything unless our resident ITK Acquire Me (or is it Pentame?) confirms the recent development. I don't care what player says.

Think he will stick with Atleti for 1-2 seasons and then move to Barca. Whenever I have read his interviews it always seems that he feels best suited to Spain in terms of his playing style, though he enjoys watching English football.

Anyway it would not be a big loss if we fail to sign him, as we should focus more on midfield.

Ah well. Was fun while it seemed nailed on but now there are pretty massive doubts going by that interview.

Very interesting comments by Griezmann. Sounds like it's nailed on he's going to England and he's just playing it down.

Realistically only Barca attract him, but they've got 3 up front he says. Can see the deal going ahead, just need Pogba to send him some selfies on a nice hot summers day with a '99 flake sitting on a canal barge
 I love optimistic comments like this.

I reckon a player could say "Man Utd and England? Are you kidding me? I'd rather scrape my balls with sandpaper than go to that hellpiped non-EU shitpipe" - and we'd still get comments like this.

Is the interview real? Cant believe a high quality player actually gave an interview like that. Comes across like an idiot of the highest order.

I'd prefer that these characters made this type of thing known before we (at least try to) part with tens of millions of pounds, so fair play.

On the basis of this story he just seems like another 'good time' footballer who should probably just stay where he is.

On one hand footballers justify their wages on a very short career but make career decisions like they're actually signing 30 year long contracts where factors such as the weather or whatever might be more important.

Of course he'll sign for City now.

Sounded like a cinderella there, and too honest for his own good. He knew EPL is waving cash at him and he said these things. He literally said he wants to be with a club that win titles and nice weather. No Epl club can guarantee that next season.

Not a very encouraging statement from him. As much as I like him I don't see where he'd fit in anyway, unless we drop Mkhi or Mata (presuming we will go 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 from hereon in and Griezmann will play either second striker/attacking midfield or on the right side of an attacking three).

And England, I have a lot of doubts about my private life. Everything like rain, bad weather
He should inform himself a little bit about the climate from certain countries, before saying rubbish like that. England doesn't have more rain then Portugal, France, Germany or Northern Spain

I think a lot of people commentating on this have not actually read what he said.He didn't just single out England for criticism. He was discussing his options and raised doubts about his private life and the weather. Those are legitimate concerns in England esp the media intrusion. But in the same speech he effectively also ruled out Real as he can't go there due to his connection with Atletico, he ruled out Barca due to their front 3. He then ruled out out Germany and France. This is a man who knows there is about maybe 3-4 genuine clubs that can afford his services, of which really only one is showing real strong genuine interest. His previous statements on pl and Utd in particular have all been very positive. I wouldn't be surprised if his agent has told him to stop looking so keen to join us.

The quotes are on BBC too although they're phrased a little differently. I can't imagine the Atletico fans will be too enamoured with him after that interview, he doesn't exactly speak about the club in glowing terms.

He doesn't really rule out a move to England but he was probably a bit too honest and shouldn't have expressed his doubts if he still views it as a possibility. I don't think it'd be a disaster by any means if he stayed with Atletico though, he's far from being the missing piece for us.

Yeah but its grey and dull here and generally colder is it not?

I don't live in England, but last time i was in London it had bright sunshine and was almost 15°C warmer then in Munich :wenger:.
It's obviously a lot warmer in a Bavarian summer, and here we have 4,5 month where you can go swimming to a lake/open-air bath and playing beachvolleyball, but over the course of a year the temperatures are pretty similar, since winters are a lot colder in Germany or East France. Sunny hours are similar, both England and Germany have around 1750-2100 depending on where you look. Germany has a loot more rainy days then England though, England has 153 on average, while Germany has between 170-250 depending on location.

The weather in Madrid isn't exactly great. Very extreme compared to British cities. Manchester isn't that bad anyway, rainfall is not that high when you look at it.
Maybe a 250k a week package would put his concerns over British weather to bed.
I think we have another bottler on our hands, like Di Maria. Do what ever you like Antonia.

This is one galactico I won't be bothered if we don't sign. He is great but not sure if he is 100m euros great.

Also that interview makes him sound like a pleb.

Did he not do an identical article about a month ago?

That article is from January.
He's responding to a question if Man Utd is still interested in Griezmann - so he has reposted his own article to confirm so. Probably saying that nothing has changed.

Or more likely he knows feck all and wants more clicks.

To be fair he's spent a lot of time in Spain from a teen and the situation with United and this top 6 but only four places is problematic.

Atletico also moving to a new 67k seater stadium next season which could be exciting I suppose although talking about rain, Atletico only had 30k in their last La Liga game.

Footballers have such short careers where they need to maximise the money they make, it beggars belief to me really that inane shit like the weather even factors in. They have like 50 years after they retire to sit in the bloody sun ffs.

So is the point that he's play no 10? Don't we have too many of those

Whats the long term plan for no 9? I get that Rashford is potential, but he may not come off, and even if he does we still need cover for after Ibra?
Surely Griezeman is simply too small to play effectively at no 9 in EPL football, remembering that Aguero is an exception!

Where he will play is all speculation at this point, but most likely as a shadow striker or on the right wing.

Also Griezmann absolutely could play 9, Aguero is no exception. He is no smaller than players like Kane, Rashford, Martial etc. who have done very well up top. He just wouldn't be a target man, more a false 9 or something.

Really? He looks tiny from memories in the last Euro's.

Personally, Im not convinced he can become a Manchester United no 9. Cant remember having a striker like him, unless you think he is similar to Cole?

So what is our medium term plan for no 9 then? Just Rashford?

Make sense. Probably it's his doing to raise his price tag in benefit of current club and his agent. They know we are the only real option.

Owen, Forlan, Tevez and Rooney are as small height wise and I think Griezman has scored more headed goals than all them.
