Antoine Griezmann

For the record, I rate Griezmann highly, although maybe not as highly as some posters on here, and I don't think he will be the solution to your goal-scoring singlehandedly.
I think Griezmann is one of the best 7 attacking players on the planet, but tbh, if thrown into our team right now, i think it wouldn't make too much of a difference for us...too many things not working. Not gonna start who's fault that is, this is another discussion.
But after Pogba, Griezmann coming to us is a big statement. Maybe that no longer only Real and Barca are the 2 clubs "to go" for the very best players of the planet, but we are as well - something you couldn't necessarily say about us even in the most glorious days

What makes you think he wouldn't fit into our squad? I think the problems with our squad are over exaggerated imo. Our attacking play is good and our defence is looking as solid as it has for years. Only problem we've had is managing to finish a few of the million chances we create, something someone as clinical as Griezmann would do.

Just behind Gabriel Jesus if we are to believe the hype :D

We'll see, you probably need to start performing better before being on the same level as those two, but as a brand and money-wise you are right up there.

Don't want to open a can of worms here... I'll just say that I think you're on an upwards trend, but I'll withhold my judgement until I see you perform against the top 6. Let's see what happens at the end of the season when you play us, Arsenal, City and Chelsea. :)

I didn't say he would not fit into our squad. My opinion on this matter is quite the opposite, he would fit perfectly into our squad.
I don't think our attacking play is good...i think for a team with the level of our players we don't spread enough danger - there is a certain lack of urgency when we need goals - the Hull game really killed me. I had an exam the next day, but was so angry that i couldn't learn for hours. Just look at how Bayern plays when they need a goal...even the ballboys radiate urgency, and help unsettling the opponent (just look closely when Bayern plays at home and need a goal - as soon as the ball is out, a second later the ballboys are throwing a new ball to the next player - this way opponent players can't even waste time properly)..we need that as well - and it has nothing to do with the players. It's a mentality thing throughout the whole club.

Lol good one. Not necessarily talking about being at the same level play-wise (yet), but attraction for players. If the new TV deal kicks in (next accounting period) and we get CL football, we will be a distant number one in income..we'll make a good 150m€ more then Real or Barca. Should convert this into player material instantly, and buy the worlds best players from now on, constantly. After all, it wasn't tactics, philosophy or crap that like that elevated Real and Barca to the current spheres - it was nothing else then constantly buying the best players of the planet that made those 2 the top 2.

Of course he would make a huge difference right now don't be ridiculous. Our biggest failure this season has been scoring goals we're 18th in the league for chance conversion and Griezmanns biggest asset is his finishing, it's why this is a transfer rumour I firmly believe is true and likely to happen this summer.

We need to get him. As for where to play either as a number 9 or behind the striker or as a winger.

Not really. You would have said the same about Ibrahimovic, Mata, Micky..all were known for finishing off their chances quite well...it's rather a mentality thing in the club, no proof that Griezmann wouldn't fall to the same decease..
Tbh, i hope that the conversion rate becomes "normal" again, before Griezmann joins us..this season! Otherwise top4 will be a hard task

Heavily disagree, Athletico is a top side, and Athletico is a lot more than just Griezmann, if you saw the game yesterday from the start you could see Athletico as a team putting pressure on Barca at their homeground, and creating some good chances, and not because of any Griezmann solo plays. They have been playing really well for many seasons now, and of course Simeone should take a lot of credit, but you can't say that Simeone is the reason 10 players play well, but the 11th (Griezmann) is playing well based on his own merit.

Athletico is a well drilled solid team with many good players, I don't even think Griezmann is their best player (although he is their best attacker IMO).
Not to be petty, but it's Atlético Madrid. Athletic Bilbao and Atlético Madrid.

Koke is a far superior player to Herrera who is a starter for United, so I'm pretty sure Koke would be too.

Koke is the best player at Atletico Madrid not named Griezmann and one of the best midfielders in La Liga. You only need to watch his performance today to understand why.
I would love Koke here he's a great player he even shrugged off links with Barca a few years ago, I think he would be a great Carrick type replacement, not quite the same player but we could make it work, has a great range of passing ability. But this is the Griezmann thread so I'll shut up!

Don't even care about formations or players needed to make him work. At this stage I just want to see some world class players at United. That said you'd have to say one of our top players, Mata or someone, would have to leave

Top players or bigger wage players are different things at Manchester United?? One of Rooney, Bastian, Young or Carrick will surely go maybe even Zlatan, Martial or Shaw. We have also just sold Morgan and Depay and I'd imagine their wages could combine to cover a significant amount towards Griezmans.

I agree but going by this season alone Atleti haven't looked very impressive. They've been quite poor, if anything. Started to perform lately though.

Came first in the CL group containing Bayern. How's that not impressive?

And a certain amount of stunning youth products at Barca to be fair!

Playerwise all of them are better apart from Liverpool. Griezmann is a better player then all of those teams have, and plays a huge part in Atletico's recent success. The manager plays an even bigger part. Take those 2 away and Atletico will (again) be a team at Liverpool/Everton level. I said it now...you will see.

You make zero sense. You say Griezmann has an outsize role at AM, then at a later post you state that there are no stars at AM, they just play well as a team. Well, which is it?

PL fans can be so deluded, wondering if Atm is better than Man United, yeah they are and by a big margin as well. Even Sevilla is tbf.
Atletico is better right now (and not by a big margin) but United certainly isnt a 'small team', isnt that right?

What a comment by their president... with all due respect to Atletico United is a much, much bigger club even if it isnt going well on the pitch at the moment.

At Madrid bringing the salt to the table. Soon their fans will start flooding the caf too.

A Madrid is a much smaller club than Utd despite being better competitively at the moment.

Greizmann wants to follow in the footsteps of his idol Beckham and he can't do that at a club of the profile of A Madrid.

All you can glean from those comments is that he is very worried.

Spot on. Just a bitter comment from a director who knows he can't really do anything to stop Griezmann moving due to the release clause, he feels powerless so acts as a child.

United is a far bigger club yes, but Atletico are far better by the moment. How can you compare a team that got in 2 CL finals in the last 3 years to a team that couldnt get past the group stage in the CL and is barely even threatening in the EL, just because United has big names, doesnt make them any better is what I've learned the past few years.

What a sweet finish for the disallowed goal. RvP-esque.

It wouldn't be the end of the world for Atletico Madrid even if they lost Griezmann. Despite their transfer ban, they have Angel Correa who is very, very good.

What are we talking about then? Last 3 years or right now?

Greizmann will join to follow in the footsteps of his idol and because he recognises United's economic power and ambition which means that a place at European football's top table is not far off.

Also he will get a massive pay rise and much bigger sponsorship deals.

Where was Real Madrid and where were we when Ronaldo left us to join them?

I dont disagree with this, I can see him coming, it's just laughable to suggest that Atletico dont have the better team at the moment imo.

Only thing laughable is to throw around with those finite statements, and state them as fact.

Not really that difficult to comprehend. Ronaldo left one of the best teams in the world to join a team that was trounced 4-0 by Liverpool because he considered them to be bigger. Same will be the case with Griezmann if he signs for us.
Agreed, it wont be the first time players left better teams for us, ask Pogba, di Maria, Ibra for example.

Yeah all 4 walk into our squad tbh.
Wouldn't be so sure. But possible. In other teams? Not so much..in "all Premier league sides"? Not by far...those 4 are actually exactly situated, where we have weakspots in our squad (apart from Griez). Other teams in the PL don't have weakspots in those positions..
