There is no indication that Atletico will tail off in the near future, they keep being competetive year after year.

Also living in Madrid can't be bad either. The only real reason he would leave is wages, but i doubt he is starving at Atletico.

IF he was to leave it would surely be to clubs like Bayern/Barcelona/PSG, right now Manchester United is not in the same bracket unfortunately.
Barcelona cant afford him and he said he isn't interested in a move back to France. Why would Bayern spend 80m euros on a player they don't need? I cant remember them spending half of that on a player...Martinez perhaps?

Isn't his buy out clause €80 million? If so we should trigger it if we think there is even a remote chance that he would come here, €80 million for a player like Griezmann is a bargain in today's market.

----------------Ibrahimovic/Rashford
Martial/Memphis--Greizmann--Mata/Januzaj

Also quite a few off the bench you would hope. Also accounting for injuries he could get more. I think that is ok for his second season, also depending on form you don't know what can happen, he could get more.
What I am saying is he should be our no2 striker next season, which I think would be fair.
I agree that he should be our no2 striker, just not if the number 1 is Ibra. I think it's wishful thinking that Rashford will get many games in that scenario. Cavani has 9 starts as a striker all season and in 5 of them Ibra was injured. Plus, PSG have no other players that could play upfront, while we have Martial and Rooney. Also, Zlatan has been subbed off a total of 7 times this season, each time after the 70th minute. He's just not someone who likes to be rotated or subbed off. And it's not like Mourinho is known for his rotation or preference for young players. I wouldn't expect it from him to change Ibra in some way.

Anyway though, this is a discussion for another thread.

You got a point there.

I still don't see why he would leave Atletico even if they won the CL, besides wages.

Players don't leave clubs when they win, they usually stay in the hope of winning more.

Sometimes they do. Ronaldo left us during our most successful period. We were definitely better than Real at the time. I don't know where I'm going with this - there's hope, I suppose.

Costa and Luiz left them tbf. In my mind Atletico are still a selling club and might think they could do more with 80m than keeping Griezmann in the side.

Anyone know if he and Martial get on? Presumably they grew up playing together in the youth squads?

I don't think they played together, there is almost 5 years between them.

We can sign him with or without Rooney leaving imo. I doubt any Chinese clubs will be interested in Wayne's wages at this point in his career. Although I do think we will need to move Wayne on if we attempt to sign both Ibra and Griezmann, as their collective wages in addition to Rooney's may be a bit much.
Pretty much. The Chinese are trying to develop an attractive competitive league. They have a plan that needs marketable players and have more then enough cash with a willingness to spend. The Rooney family would be treated like royalty and in my opinion it would benefit all parties. The club cannot sustain his salary with performances like the ones we have seen for four years now.

Does he though? I mean I'm sure he can play anywhere across the AM area, but if we're signing one of the best players in the world for a shitload of money, we should have an idea of how we're going to use him, and ideally that would be by playing him in his strongest position. Like we should have done with di Maria.
Amen brother!

That comment applies to all big signings not just Griezmann.

He is a legit United fan right? Him and his brother, that should help a little.
His brother is a bit of a regular going by his Twitter account. It was reported Antoine attended a few games while at Sociedad.

We will not trigger it unless we are sure he wants to come. The fee is the least of our problems here.

Must. Resist. Getting. Drawn. In.

Pretty sure we looked at Griezmann before when he was at RSO, he played mainly as a winger then and I think we deemed him too slow/fragile to play as a winger at that time.

Obviously he has become more of a striker and improved massively since those days, we would be foolish not to want him.

Arsene Wenger in the next press conference: 'We were close to signing Griezmann in 2010'.

I just went on wiki to see a few things, since moving to Atletico he has apparently scored 43 goals in 73 games. That a pretty damn good return for an incredibly defensive side.

We'd win everything with this guy. Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Johnston Paint trophy, World cup..everything.
Throw money at the French frog

Our only hope is that he's a complete mercenary that is more interested in money than playing in Europe or winning things.

The guy is absolutely brilliant.

I'd be willing to bet Atletico will do everything to keep hold of him and he won't really see United as a step up at the minute. Although he is known to be a fan so perhaps we can appeal to that side of him.

And our wages which are ridiculous for top players (see Rooney, RvP, etc).

Wages is the biggest motivation for basically everyone. So that one factor overrides everything else.

He is absolutely attainable and I am sure would jump at the chance to move to United.

Don't sell us short here.

- Big, big renumeration increase
- Prestige and fame
- Premier League. Increasingly become THE league around the world.

I am sure we will also be able to show him a plan of how we intend to build a new, quality teaM.

I cannot fathom that anyone would question if/why he would join us. It's a no-brainer. He is at a tier 2 club with, yes, a very good team.

But it's still tier 2.

I think we can rule out the two tier 1 clubs in Spain.

PSG may be an option but that league is a joke.

I expect all the big PL teams may be interested. I think he will move to one of United/City/Chelski this summer. In fact, I would put money on it.

Also, commercial endorsements sky rocket when you sign for a club like United.

Financially speaking, the difference in what he would earn is as bigger gulf as the difference in quality that their first 11 has over ours. But money is more important.

Don't do it to yourselves - there's no way he's leaving Atletico for us. I don't think he'd do it if we were the only ones interested but we'd definitely have competition from clubs that will be able to offer Champions League football. Total non-starter.

CL football is grossly overrated as a factor.

We will be a CL team again soon. Players don't only think about the next season when they sign 5 year deals.

He is there for the taking. He even has a very reasonable buy out clause.

I would be extremely disappointed if we don't get him.

Well throw money at him. If we can get Ibrahimovic, Griezmann with perhaps someone like Mane. Our attack is set for years especially as Rashford and Martial can learn off Ibrahimovic.

I think the CL is overrrated in terms of being the central reasons why a player moves or doesn't. Ultimately, attractive wages are king.

Crazier things have happened, but I can't get excited for this yet. His team is doing brilliantly and we are not looking to hot with a lot of uncertainty about the manager position, no CL and so on.

I'd love him here. Firstly, he's an extremely good attacking player, and for me, even more importantly - is a good looking enough and high-profile enough Galactico to possibly convince us to sever ties with Wayne Rooney. Our captain won't be moved on unless we get a new 'face' of United. Griezmann is a world class forward with platinum blonde hair and pink boots. Give him the #10 shirt and get him a famous girlfriend.

Bad idea. A famous girlfriend would ask him to leave Manchester at first opportunity.
