I don't know if he plans on leaving this year, but if he's on the move, we should move heaven and earth to try and land him. Such a quality player, he would take us up a level on his own.

Really?

For some reason, Griezmann strikes me as someone who'd stay at Atletico for a few more seasons.

Don't see him going anywhere.

But he would be a perfect signing.
I can see him wanting to leave if Simeone leaves. If however Simeone stays on as coach then I think he will stick around. The team bond they all have together seems pretty strong and they love playing together. Take away Simeone and it could start to unravel.

As a shadow striker. And he absolutely is world class, to be as efficient and clinical as he is in a team like Athletico that doesn't exactly prioritise attacking football is incredible. His partner up top is Torres ffs.
I must have been watching a different match so, as athletico for once were dominating possession, but hadn't got the cutting edge up top to break through the sort of defences we faced all year. And also I do remember Torres putting him clean through at one stage, but his pace left him down there.
He's not world class, we have too many players like him were we don't know which position suits best.......

I don't think he would be anywhere near as good in the PL, IMO.

I've watched this boy a couple of times, I still can't figure out where is his best position, on the wing? In the hole? Up top? I do be amazed by the amount of "world class" quotes he's not in that bracket and definitely not worth €80/100 million to which some are saying we should spend on him. My choice would be if neymar is thinking of moving we should be all over him, a big IF I know....

You seem certain he's not world class yet the first thing you said is you've seen him play "a couple of times".

So you write off a player who you just admitted you have only watched a couple of times and also suggest that we should be looking to buy Neymar if he's moving, as if that wasn't obvious? Good stuff.

Probably physicality, which is a bit of an adjustment Griezmann would have to make. Then again, Atletico play such a physical game themselves, I imagine he'd be involved in more physical games as a result.

He wouldn't. If he were he'd instantly be the best player in the league (alongside Aguero).

However he wouldn't need to be at his current form to still be one of the best player's in the league. If he were a step down on current form he'd still be alongside Sanchez, Ozil, Hazard, potentially Martial/De Bruyne.

That's the reason he'd be such a good addition.

Antoine would run the show for us, of that I have no doubt.

As to whether he could be tempted, it's hard to say. On the one hand the English prem and United in particular are pretty tempting; but on the other hand he's probably perfectly content where he is now. My view is that he's worth a massive bid, but if the answer is no I don't want to see Woody and Mourinho waste the summer chasing him. We've done that too many times before (Sneijder, Alcantara, etc.) and every time we've gotten burned by it. If the player wants to come, great. If not, move on to those players who do.

He would get more space in the premier league and he has clever movement.
How would he get more space in the Prem than in La Liga? The premier league is much more intense in terms of pressing and speed of play.

Fabregas said you get more space in premier league because it is faster, up and down. Torres and Mata also said pretty much the same thing when they first came to england. It's common knowledge in hockey and NBA the faster a game is the more spaces open up because the players are displaced more frequently and further from their positions. Same logic applies to football. And pressing isn't more intense in prem, most teams have now idea how to press apart from a few like Spurs.

Of course we press more in the prem, you've contradicted yourself slightly by saying how fast play is but then saying no one presses. You get tons of time on the ball in La Liga, that's different to spaces opening up.

Tempo of the play is not dependent on pressing, not necessarily. There are wide spaces in a fast tempo game.

Didn't write him off, just think he's over hyped by people on here and probably in the same bracket as mata IMO.
And glad you agree about Neymar

The faster pace leads to teams being less organised and defenses more stretched, leaving more space for the attackers to exploit.

He's comfortably better than Mata which is clear to anyone who has watched him more than a couple of times...

Who do you have in Mata's bracket?
Greizmann, I'm probably being a bit generous seeing that mata has a world cup, euro championship, champions league, eufa league, couple of fa cups and a Spanish cup.
Now you don't get them by being a bad player, do ye??
Typical slating our own

He barely played in World cups and Euros, but more importantly that has nothing to do with my question nor Griezmann.

Fernando Torres during his shit spell won Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and Euro 2012. Trophies aren't everything.
They really aren't. Trophies are a team effort, which is why it always amuses me when someone says X has won this that and the other.

Hopefully that time is now. He's had a sniff of the CL and is on relatively low wages relative to how good he is. A big offer coupled with higher wages and the lure of playing in England and working with Mourinho may do the trick.

If we had the CL to offer, I'd be far more hopeful.

How can that poster post in this section with only 7 posts and 1 like?

One season of not having CL is irrelevant.

Even if we did, we would have zero chance of winning it.

Players sign 5 year deals. It is about the financial package and, in a distance second, the strategy for winning trophies over the course of the contract.

If we are talking about Pogba as a realistic signing, then Griezmann could be considered too. Mainly because he has a release clause and Mourinho wanted him when he was at Chelsea.

If we play 433, he could be part of the front of 3. However, he would be better behind the striker instead of Rooney.

Even without Champions League, Mourinho can attract quality players.

I'm all for adding Griezmann, but how/where would he play in our squad under Mourinho? I don't see him as a traditional right winger as far as providing width and speed for crosses. He'd prefer to play centrally behind the main striker - a spot currently occupied by Rooney, so either Wayne would have to be moved further back (doubtful due to his age and skill) or they'd both play in lieu of each other.
