I think it's more down to the fact that the people who have watched him all season are desperate for him to sign for us whereas there are a few posters who watched him last night and are basing their opinion on that game.
I'd love Griezmann here, he's world class. But where would he play if we got him? Assuming Mourinho will play 4-2-3-1, I can't see Griezmann playing on the right wing in that formation, or as the #10 (due to the fact Mou described his perfect #10 as a powerful box to box sort of player). This is assuming Ibra is actually coming, otherwise we could have Griezmann upfront.

Carrasco could be a great buy for the right wing.

@Adam-Utd Bale was quality tonight? He was Real's biggest threat in the final third.

I followed the LVG's sack watch thread closely and was really amused to find out how swiftly folks here change their opinion on him so frequently when he manages just a win even when he's just coming from successive defeats. Some even claimed we were going to challenge for the title when we went on a little run like that. My opinion on the CAF is not based on the entirety of this thread, because i think I've been here quite a while and have made enough observations to make this claim.

I have no more replies to make regards this issue and you might figure out why.

He'd thrive just as well in a Hazard type role, with the freedom of the pitch given to him and willing runners to help cover for him (i.e. Willian).

But that's the role Martial occupies at the moment, so unless we're not actually targeting a pure striker due to Martial being moved up top it would not seem to fit into Mou's...(don't taze me bro) 'philosophy'.

Incredibly harsh assessment of his performance. He was playing in a very defensive set up in the first half.. no runners in front of him.

Rest of the game had less excuses but he's been majestic in getting them there and he was trying to make things happen but just wasn't quite at the races. He's a very dynamic 10 and I think Mourinho would love him. I think we have a decent shout at getting him after that loss.. definitely worth a punt.

Griezmann is an excellent player. He'd improve our attack immensely. If there's any part of him that would consider leaving Atletico, we'd be mad not to make a strong effort to try to land him. He has a buyout clause so, while Atletico would still make it difficult, the real obstacle would be convincing the player himself. In that respect, I wonder where the tipping point is.

Yes, Atletico is a very good team. They've had success in recent seasons. They're well coached. Madrid is a nice city for a professional footballer to live in. They'll likely have Champions League football for the next few years at least. Most of all, they seem like a tight-knit and loyal bunch of players.

That said, he must realize that Atletico is always much more likely to be a bridesmaid rather than a bride. They won the league once, but how likely is that to happen again? Real and Barca will be heavy favourites every year. They've made it to a couple of Champions League finals, but have lost them both. Will their team ever really get much stronger? The challenge of actually winning a final is massive. He could certainly earn more money elsewhere and perhaps, in the long term, improve his prospects for silverware.

If he did leave, I think we'd have a chance. He wouldn't go to Real or Barca. I very much doubt he'd go to Serie A. Bayern would undoubtedly be interested, and would be tempting for any player. Given his nationality, PSG could not be ruled out, but it's a one team league. Chances are that he'd end up in England. Mourinho makes our team very attractive to players, I think. We could pay him just as much, if not more, than anyone. I don't see City, Chelsea or Arsenal being an obvious favorite for his signature. Landing him may not be likely, but it's far from impossible.

This guy wont stay at Atletico forever, I really hope we're in for him whenever the time comes.

Hopefully that time is now. He's had a sniff of the CL and is on relatively low wages relative to how good he is. A big offer coupled with higher wages and the lure of playing in England and working with Mourinho may do the trick.

Bale who got the assist for the goal and was generally real's biggest threat, at least in the first half? and grizi who basically won the quarters and the semis by himself and was their top scorer in the league? same grizi who popped up with the moment of magic against barca? I could not disagree with your post more strongly.
I'm not saying griezmann was good either, but honestly bale really didn't do much across the whole match. Yes he did a flicked on header.. Wow. that's like saying Torres effected the game by winning the penalty!

So wasted in such a defensive team, okay he's the main man in their counter attacking style, but he's got so much more to offer a team.

Griezmann showed a worrying mental fragility last night. You could tell he would miss the penalty just after half time, his face was full of fear. He is undoubtedly a fantastic player, and he is still young so he will mature mentally and get stronger, but the Griezmann of last night was very different to the Griezmann who played throughout the rest of the 2015/16 European Cup. The Griezmann who showed the self-belief and confidence to harry and pester Barca and Bayern didn't make it to Milan. The Griezmann who showed up at the San Siro looked painfully aware that it was the game of his life, and he froze under the spotlight.

Bale was playing with complete freedom and kept beating men and getting the ball in to dangerous areas and forcing the issue, which is a lot more difficult against atleti than anyone else, he was the best player on the pitch for me, alongside juanfran, who I was gutted for after missing in the shootout. Torres did effect the game, champions league finals are all about margins, winning a penalty is about the second biggest action you can do, although torres was poor. I agree grizi wasn't great either, but Madrid scored too early, so their gameplan went out the window, they only started to play when carrasco came on.

It's funny how people have been watching him for several months now and are frothing over him and he has one below par performance which the masses watch and all of a sudden there's a bunch of negative posts declaring him "not what we need".

This, people are crazy.

I thought he played well enough last night considering his strike partner was pathetic, was always getting on the ball and attempting to create things. People will unfortunately remember the penalty miss. No idea why Torres was not subbed off earlier, Real were there for the taking.

He had a bad game. Get over it as it happens. Ronaldo had a bad game. Lots of players from both sides did. Messi misses penalties too. Griezmann scored the penalty that got them through against Barcelona.

Griezmann still had the bottle to take the penalty second time around and score it. So no he wasn't mentally gone.

It's hard for attacking players to shine when both defences were very good last night.

What an overreaction. He still stepped up and took the first penalty in the shoot out.

Stepping up and slotting away the first penalty in the shootout having missed one in the game took a lot of nerve. He simply had a bad game, you can't read everything from a players expression.

 gotta love the caf scouts

He he was clearly mentally bereft when he buried his shoot-out penalty.

I am assuming you're referring to me, as I was the only who said anything of the sort before you posted, unless you're including the obviously facetious posts from @Shark and @Waywestofthere . I stated quite clearly that I haven't watched him enough to form a solid opinion on him, but based on the description @Adam-Utd provided I don't think he's right for us, given the premium he'll command.

In that regard, I find it funny that you claim there was some sort of systemic overreaction to that one anonymous half, which followed after months of "frothing" over him. When in fact it was one guy, who made an obvious tentative statement based on another's assessment of him.

Griezmann can turn a game, because he can dribble through your defense, shoot from 25m or score Inzaghi's type of goals. But like all the other attackers you need to find him in the last third, yesterday Atletico struggled to find him because Torres was useless, Griezmann has been isolated all game long.

We would be incredibly lucky to get a player of his quality. One penalty doesn't define a player, he's had an incredible season. Dream signing, can't see him coming to us to be honest.

Heard rumours that he is a United fan. Maybe there is a chance to get him even without cl. Would be the perfect solution for us.

Here we go with the psychoanalysis based on one game. He took Atletico's first penalty in the shootout and got it right, was he full of fear then?

What the actual feck ? judge him after one missed penalty.
Ronaldo looked like a little girl when he'd missed penalty in his first CL final, I wonder if people called him a wimp too.

I've watched this boy a couple of times, I still can't figure out where is his best position, on the wing? In the hole? Up top? I do be amazed by the amount of "world class" quotes he's not in that bracket and definitely not worth €80/100 million to which some are saying we should spend on him. My choice would be if neymar is thinking of moving we should be all over him, a big IF I know....

Missed a penalty? And couldn't beat Real Madrid single-handedly? What a shite player...we should sign Neymar instead.

Or the next Messi.

As a shadow striker. And he absolutely is world class, to be as efficient and clinical as he is in a team like Athletico that doesn't exactly prioritise attacking football is incredible. His partner up top is Torres ffs.

Wow didn't he realise he was playing for his United future when he took that penalty? What a flop.

Griezmann too is a United fan. Anyway, it will be a fantastic if he joins us. If he is available, we have to be in for him.

I have zero doubts that, if we want him and make a move, we will get him.

Really?

For some reason, Griezmann strikes me as someone who'd stay at Atletico for a few more seasons.

Don't see him going anywhere.

But he would be a perfect signing.
