He looks like a player who will add some status to our team but not sure what else.. He has been very poor this season.. I would love to have for my muppet sake but I think 100m could be spent better..

status, brand value and quality..it's not just about what he would add to us but also what he would add to the competition if they sign him.
I reckon Chelsea and psg will all want him too (esp psg given he is french).

Bet he's feeling like an idiot for turning us down now eh? Enjoy Plzen away Antoine!

I think I'm off the Griezmann train and boarding the Ozil train, he suits us better. And Ozil is NOT cup tied in January.

He is cup tied and won't be signed until summer. Close thread.
While I think it would be a consideration, I don't think its a deal breaker. Priority is the league and if Mourinho believes that Griezmann could help reel in City then I could see him making the move.

Get rid of a few.. Miki, Mata, Damian... you'll get a few million for them to offset any cash for Griezmann. Course he would improve the Man Utd team. Class act. Probably needs a new challenge.

HOWEVER... I think he may go somewhere else... PSG, Barca etc..

That could be just 2 games...
Would anyone really pass up the opportunity of signing a World Class player because he will miss 2 games..?

The Griezman train passed when we signed Lukaku. We may have dodged a bullet, Griez has been quite underwhelming this season. Besides, he is very expensive and almost hitting 30 in age.

He's turning 27 next year..

Griezmann is 26 and even younger than Eden Hazard. What I like about Griezmann is that he hasn't won anything and must be super-hungry for it... unlike Özil who's 30 next year, has won the league, a few cups and the World Cup. Not that it matters that much of course, but the age/ambition thingy is definitely in Griezmann's favor relative to Özil who might be a bit full (which his reputation is also accounting for these days, at times).

What is this obsession with age by fans???

Utd don't buy young players to try to sell them on for a profit. When we buy a top player the aim is for them to play as long as possible at the club.

26 = almost 30 now? :wenger:

This is similar to the Van Persie transfer in many ways. We don’t necessarily need a player in his position but he is world class and would take the team to the next level, so we should really be all over this.

FM has made people believe it's possible to build an entire team of 21 year olds and dominate for a decade.

fecking hell I didn't realise he was almost pension age. Get the hell away from Football Manager.

I read somewhere Griezman was 28 last year. Good to learn he is actually 26 this year. If he is still valued at £90m, it's a good deal.

I'd rather go for Dybala, although I think both are luxury players. Hazard would have been perfect.

Griezmann would be brilliant to play the right sided forward role in this new formation we are using now. With lukaku playing central and martial or rashford on the left, that's pretty formidable.

For me he has got a few attributes because of which I favor him over ozil. For one he is significantly younger, used to playing mourinho style counter attacking football, hardly averse to putting in a shift and a keen eye for goal and off the ball play. He's still gonna be effective for us when we don't have the ball and that's critical.

I see no reason at all why we won't go in for both Griezmann and Ozil in the Summer, so I don't think it's a case of '1 or the other'. Chances are Mkhi and Mata will be moved on so there is every chance we may get both. Where they will play, Not my decision but it's a fecking great dilemma to have.

All the Griezmann talk is fine and dandy. Does AG actually want to join us?
He snubbed us once already and has shown he is completely and utterly devoted to his current club. Even the lure of earning a much bigger wage, could not get him out of his current club.
I've said this many times, but the AG train has passed. In every transfer window, I think that AG will now be mentioned (to join MUFC), but it won't happen. He'll join the long list of players, such as Ronaldo, Neymar, Gaitan, Sjneider, etc.
We do not want to take on players who are joining only for the cash and given what happened in the Summer, AG clearly feels more for Atletico Madrid than MUFC.

Now, Ozil is a player who clearly wants to leave AFC (he is refusing to sign a new contract, unlike AG, who did re-sign with his current club, only a few months back) and is a player that Jose wants to work with. If Ozil genuinely wants to join us, I'd have him, over AG, every time.

I think this can still happen, but I won't if doesn't by the end of the next summer. I appreciate and respect Griezmann for helping his club out in their time of need, but if he wants to leave now AM will get a good fee for him to source a replacement, or use it however else they wish to.

He also needs to show a level of commitment to want to play here though and comments about the 'weather' etc. don't exactly fill me with confidence. I would've snapped your hand off for him in the last window, but now I'm happy with the squad and the direction it's heading in. If Griezmann is going to force us to change our shape then to be honest I'd rather we spent the money elsewhere.

Barca might get rid of Suarez next summer and replace him with Griezmann. Makes a lot of sense for him to stay in La Liga, get a big bump in his salary, and play alongside Messi and Dembele.

The only problem with getting Ozil and Griezmann for Mata and Mkhi is that you're replacing two players who can both play centrally and on the right with two other players who only play centrally.

I honestly don't think Mourinho will get rid of Mata because he gives us an option on right wing.

Not really. SAF clearly knew something about Rooney back then. Kagawa is always a gamble from transfer point of view. Then we have Chicharito who is narrow dimensional in preferring playing on shoulder with opposition defense line, and Wele...

Right now, Martial, Rashford, Lukaku all have great potential to become great. Two of them occupies similar zone to Griezmann (second forward, wing forward even if different wing). It looks more like we need a supplier type of player than a sharer.

Next year could possibly see Mata and Mkhi sold and Ozil and Griezmann brought in which undoubtedly is an upgrade! add Dybala (hopefully) and Goretzka then we are pretty much no longer a work in progress but the finished article!! :)

We will simply not buy Ozil, Griezmann and Dybala. Maybe two of them. Certainly not three of them.

I think this ship might have sailed. If we get ozil, it seems difficult we will get him also. Maybe Ozil is the back up to him but certainly the sense of inevitability that this move had last year seems to have gone.

There are many posters in here who are attacking him for daring to show loyalty to his club for staying with them an extra season, but you've gone too far the other way. He obviously is not 'completely and utterly devoted' to Atletico, by the fact that he was definitely planning on leaving them if not for the transfer ban. He certainly has a good level of loyalty to them by the fact that he did decide to stay with them during their time of trouble, but even then he made sure that his new contract kept the same buyout clause so that he will get his move after this season (possibly even in January).

He was definitely planning on leaving at the end of last season. Now he is definitely planning on leaving after this season. There can be no doubt about either of those things. The only two questions are whether we are his first choice, and whether he is still Mourinho's first choice. Personally I believe the answer to the first question is yes, so it comes down to Mourinho.
