although I do think Valencias attacking contributions are underrated.

I don't see how that can be. He is an attacking WB\FB for MUFC and in 16 matches this season he has managed a whopping ZERO assists, and his previous seasons are not much better.

It doesn't help only to run with the ball forward when you end up either crossing it into the shin of the nearest defender or passing it backwards.

The contribution of Ashley Young in the last few matches has shown something of what we should expect from a United WB, overlaps \ crosses and assists.

The only reason that we accept Valencia's meagre contribution is because we have been traumatized by the last few years, we've come to accept mediocrity.

Yeh this is quite possibly true, although I do think Valencias attacking contributions are underrated.

I don't think that it is underrated. Valencia is average going forward and good at defending, so if you use a system that requires a defensively sound fullback who is only supposed to support a genuine right sided attacker/midfielder then Valencia is a good fit but when you play with narrow attacking midfielders, you need a fullback that is a threat by himself through runs, dribbles and reliable crosses, that's not Valencia.

Yeah, Young has shown up Valencia, to be honest. People started saying he had a resurgence but still wasn't actually producing much.

It should be one or the other. Ozil is too good a playmaker to be shunted out wide. If you want a winger, there's many better widemen than Griezmann out there. There's no point spending 90m on him, just to play him in a position that makes him look like a glorified Juan Mata.
This shoe-horning has to stop, it has to.

I don't understand why we cannot have both? Have Ozil play the #10 and Griezemann play out wide. Personally I don't understand the obsession with a winger that hugs the touchline. I also think it does a little disservice to Griezemann to refer to him as a "glorified Juan Mata." This is a top 5 player in the world who finished only behind Messi and Ronaldo in the Ballon d'Or voting last year. (edit grammar)

He finished third in the Ballon d'or due to his performances playing as a striker - especially in the euros.
He was poor at the euros playing on the right wing, until Deschamps changed formation to accomodate him through the middle. When was the last time you saw him play on the wing? He's simply not a £90m player in that position.
The winger must not be a touchline-hugging type, but he should be a natural winger at least. I'm tired of this shoe-horning and putting square-pegs in round holes.

This article breaks down the authors version of Mourinho's tactics which was published in September (i believe). Defensively the shape is very similar to a 4-4-2. The article references Miki as the 2nd striker, which could easily become Greizemann. While I respect your square pegs in round holes (and agree to an extent), if you can get a chance to add a top quality player, my opinion is you pursue the option. If the goal is to compete with Real Madrid, PSG, Barca, and Bayern then quality must be added across the whole team.

Well, if we play him in the 'Mkhi' position, then Ozil will be shunted out wide - you know what I'm trying to imply here.
On the bolded part, I disagree. You don't just jump in and sign a class player because he's available, when you have no place for him - its desperation.
Making the right decisions and signing the right players will be key to closing the gap on those teams, not just filling the squad with apparently quality players.

Goal called offside + Winner. Him and Saul would be

He looked pretty shit in his all round play in that video. He's a goalscorer though, and always seem to be at the right place at the right time. Not sure he's what we need though looking at that - we need more creators, especially players who can run with the ball.

His game has fundamentally changed from his Zaragoza days.
Basically a striker now. Don't think we need one of those.

110% agree with this

He looked horrible in that video, lost the ball so often, poor passes, pushed off the ball.

Doesn't look like he can beat a man, I guess fit right in with the rest of the team then. We're good at passing the ball around in the final third and doing nothing with it, why not add another player like that :wenger:

I agree with you but stats/shmatts

Rooney , for example, had passable stats his last few years here.

I do agree we need better than TV though.

He’s creative enough plus any players that can run off the ball like Griezmann would help us in attacking fluidity.

Athletico is out of the C1, going to Europa League... surely it's not "better" than United now, isn't it?

Griezmann has made his bed so needs to lie in it till next summer, admirable loyalty but very much a blind one!

Remember he said he'll sign for us if we qualify for the champions league right? Now he is going to Europa league with Atletico Madrid.

Wonder if we'll be in for him in January now that he's able to play in the champs league next round.

Ship out Mkhi, get Griezzy in. Griezmann in Lingards position in the 3412.

Isn't he locked out from the competition now since he played in it with Atletico? Or do the rules get reset when going into the knockout rounds?

As far as I'm aware since they are out we can register him for the next stages?

He never said that. That's what the caf Sherlock's deduced from his "6 out of 10" chance of signing for United, when he was asked.

Alot could depend on result vs City and in December. If we still have a realistic chance for PL title in January, then Mourinho should make then case that he needs serious additional firepower to close out the season. I suspect we need abit more to win the league, should City have a mini collapse.

That's weird because he did play in the group stages. It would fit a great narrative though for United...

No he can't play for us in Champions League this season.

Can a player play in UEFA competition for more than one club in the same season?
As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, excluding UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. However, a player can play for one club in the first, second and third qualifying round, and/or the play-offs, of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League, and then represent another club from the group stage of either competition.

Yeah, I know but they reported that he would play for us if we win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League. out of sudden, he was very being loyal to Atletico Madrid because of the transfer ban.

6/10 chance possible for joining but would increase high chance if we win Europa League. or reduce chance if we didn't qualify for the champions league,

He looks like a player who will add some status to our team but not sure what else.. He has been very poor this season.. I would love to have for my muppet sake but I think 100m could be spent better..

What sort of idiot says 6 out of 10 for leaving, and 7 out of 10 for staying. Shite at maths, do not want.

 I'm still surprised by the stupidity of that moment. I have listened his interviews for years and the only thing I can assure you is that if given the opportunity he would stay in Spain and play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, outside of them it's impossible to tell where he would go.
