What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

For €80m we could have had Lacazette (with money left over) or Griezmann.
Neither of them is or will ever be the best player in the world. If we pay €80m for Martial he will be the best player in the world.

For now Martial is €50m. We couldn't get Griezmann for that. Not sure Griezmann would want to come anyway, he's settled at Atletico and they are better than us.

So its 21 million upfront + 4 payments once a year of 3.6 million + add ons

Not that bad really.
They're the best part. He triggers them we're laughing, he doesn't we're not paying.

He looks a powerful forward from the clips? Is that accurate .. the two people who have seen him play?

This probably means Rooney drops back to number 10

Mata---Rooney---Memphis
---------Martial------------

More expensive than Zidane...shock horror :nervous::nervous: fecking sensationalist headlines, even the french press are idiots. The media is an absolute joke nowadays. Some posters believe every bullshit, with believing what Monaco say. It was always 50m upfront and some dubious clauses. Like i said, if we pay the 80m, that would mean he would be one of the best around.

36m pounds, i'll take that gamble.

That's not as bad as we thought..

 at people losing their shit over media posting the maximum amount.

I quite like deals structured like that. Everyone wins if he becomes a star.

Even still, as has been mentioned, the bar has been set ridiculously high for most of those add-ons.

He could become a seriously good player e.g. Rooney level, and none of them would be triggered.

He'd have to get to Ronaldo level for them to be triggered.

Still, it won't stop opposition fans and United fans with an axe to grind constantly quoting the 80m figure, probably in pounds whilst they're at it.

From his You Tube clips, I really don't see how he is an upgrade from Welbeck TBH.
Has anyone here seen him play?
My thoughts exactly. Everyone bit my head off when I mentioned it yesterday, so I'd be careful with an opinion like that on here mate.

Hey, Monaco fan here.

I'm gutted he's going. By far the best potential up front, since he can play on the LEFT wing (not right, never ever has he played there), and striker even though he not a pure finisher like....Falcao.

He's super fast on a small distance due to his acceleration, and his technique is amazing. Something in the likes of Moutinho or Kondogbia. He surely is capable of passing it (unlike Falcao), and is able to attack with his back to the goals (unlike Falcao again).

Recently he's started to be good at pressuring when he lost the ball, which is really what he lacked as a player. In Monaco, specifically since the start of this season, he's wrecked any defence (incl PSG, they were all over the place when he started to accelerate), but we didn't have the rest of the team to follow him.

He's not worth the 80M euros (60M£), certainly not. I would say 30M euros is about the price for a rich club. But hey, your board is stupid not to get a striker before, we don't HAVE to sell him, so we've got the power to make you reach deep into that pocket.

In the end, I'm gutted he's leaving for reasons specific to monaco itself (unable to face UK money which is scandalous), and sad because he's a very sweet man. You'll see on his interview, he struggles to look at the camera.

Finally, if you never heard of him, you didn't watch the CL last year, because he was the man on the left wing, and he was excellent at all times. Not because you didn't hear about him that he's not good.

Also, he only scored 11 or 12 goals, out of 50 matches. I know some good wingers who don't have this ratio, aged 28 and playing in the PL where defence is atrocious! (I've followed united for 10 yrs, I'm a great fan).

From a Monaco fan in the newbies.

I'd trust the club to know rather he's an upgrade or not on a player we offloaded to close rivals, because we knew he wouldn't do anything dangerous.

For the people asking who he is, didn't they watch the Monaco v Arsenal CL last year, he played really well, set up Berbs goal
He did play well, not against the signing. However yet again we have been taken to the cleaners. We should only have paid a fraction of that and still gone for another striker of more experience.

Looks much better structured than I thought but as I said before I don't care about the fee. I just can't wait to sell him play now. Will he be thrown straight in against Liverpool?

Don't get me wrong I am excited by him. But if we are pinning our titles hopes on a 19 year old who hasn't exactly been prolfic then well... yeah.
Just look at Chamack, Giroud, Riveriere etc players that have come from Lique 1 and not exactly set the world alight.

I expect Martial to be a superstar one day, just skeptical he is a) ready now b) we should be putting that pressure on him now

Another attacking signing is essential IMO,

Drogba came from Ligue 1, too.

I've changed my vote to brilliant buy. Should he hit all clauses, it's a steal, if not, they way the payments are structured means it doesn't hit us too badly though the overall number of 36m looks high.

Why? Pretty much anyone who watches them says Martial has got way more potential and is a lot more talented then Lacazette. Lacazette is just older and more experienced then Martial.

He is also way more proven as Martial. I won´t comment on his potential, because I have only seen him a handful of times in the CL and the only thing about him that stood out to me was his first touch and close control. Maybe he is this mega talent and the transfer will pay off quickly, but it is also dangerous business if he is the only one coming in today. You pay this huge chunk of money not for immediate perfomances but for potential.

He basically replaces Januzaj (at least for this year) and it would be certainly a sign of Van Gaals confidence if he thinks it would be enough to trust a still fairly raw talent to help you in the area you arguably struggle the most, which is creation of quality chances, and secure a top 4 spot and a good campaign in the CL.

The thing I worry about is, if you guys have really the luxury to develop a talent and at the same time introduce him to the EPL. And with development I also mean the negative things that come along with it: likely inconsistent performances, freedom to make mistakes and still be played on a frequent base. Even Eden Hazard, who set the French league on fire in his last season there, faded for a good portion of his premier season after his strong start. If Van Gaal sees United in his current state as the right spot to mould him then fair enough, but I could also see a 19 year old struggling with the pressure and expectation this price tag could create.

I'd be very happy if we manage to pay the whole amount then. Can you get me a link where you found it?
No idea where it is now, saw it on twitter randomly and some guy on rawk (I know...) quoted them saying RMC said that. No reason for him to make shit up either considering it's a liverpool fan saying something that is positive for United. Most reports said 50m euros + 30m in add ons and add ons tend to be something like that

Ahh okay. Wanted to post it on twitter but can't do it without link. Thanks anyway.
