What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

This poor sod has been shunted into a siding whilst the De Gea circus has been going on. Might not be a bad thing for him to have the spotlight deflected whilst he settles in.

It's a great deflection. He'll settle in quietly, and then be brought into the squad in a measured way.

Lyon probably got themselves a share of the transfer fee.

Since he's going to cost £36m and will come as our second choice forward I'd expect him to rack up at least 30 starts in all competitions this season. Add the fact that Mata could be moved centrally so that hateful Herrera doesn't absolutely have to play and it might be even more on the wing (Rooney's position up front is not under threat, he could score 1 goal in the next 33 games and remain number one).

Nah, he won't be brought into the team slowly a'la Ronaldo or other young talents. He will have to play from the go, we don't have any other forwards aside from him and Rooney so there won't be time to ease him into the team.

Ronaldo went more or less straight into our first team from the moment he joined us.

More recently, so did Depay. Luke Shaw did too, injuries permitting.

Nor will he need to be brought in slowly (though as Pogue said, Ronaldo was right into the first team). Martial is a key player for Monaco and he's only 19, and was basically the best player on the pitch in both games against Valencia in the champions league qualifiers and had a huge impact against Arsenal in the champions league knockout phase last season. He can make an instant impact for us this season.

The only highlight today, besides Real embarrassing themselves again, is waiting for his confirmation.

Is the fee really that high ? We paid £12m for a teenage cristiano in 2003. Is that really a lot different to paying £36m in 2015 considering inflation, transfer market etc?

It's the conflicting figures that raise alarm bells. It's being reported between 50 and 80 million euros.

Still pretty high considering the kind of players that get bought for that amount. That's not even factoring in the possibility that it's actually €80m.

Yes, it is. £36m now is equivalent of around £20m - £22m back then.

When you compare this to deals for players like Costa, Fabregas, Hazard, Sanchez etc. it's a lot of money to pay for an unproven player few people have heard of. If you however compare it to £100m valuation of Kane some on here had, it's a complete and utter bargain.

Given how Sh1t most PL defences are I think this kid is gonna tear things up for us...

Given the inconsistent displays by the more experienced Depay... I think he will do well but I don't expect him to blow up so quick.
He only got 12 or so goals in the french league (weaker league) last season.

If you look at the stats on the French league though defences are much tighther over there. Plus he was playing in a Monaco team that were in a bit of flux. Obviously we don't know but wouldn't it be great if he exploded onto the PL scene. Starting with a goal against Liverpool.

Erm have you seen our team?
I really hope so, I really do

No it's not. At the time £30m was a British record fee. Today that's common money it would seem for any good player.

And Sanchez Fabregas and Costa really had a clause which had to be met. Plus the club was looking to sell cesc and Sanchez. Not the case here. When you see, Marquinhos was bought for €45m and he wasn't even European based.

I think it's €80m adding possible add ons.

Martial is now almost official. France has again been looted our best son. This time by the English, but specifically Manchester United. There have been various reports over how much money will exchange hands. Either, as we have seen the completed TMS documents.

Monaco will receive € 50 million guarantee. This will be paid in the amount of € 30 million up front, followed by four payments of € 5 million each year in July.

The additional unsecured expenses, totaling another € 30 million. These include € 5 million each time Martial is the top scorer in the Premier League, to a maximum of € 15 million. Another € 5 million will be due if Martial wins Golden Boy. The final € 10m will be paid if Martial won the Balon D'or career in Manchester.

It is interesting to note that all the terms are future individual successes. It is telling how great the value to Monaco and Manchester this player that it almost seems likely that these obligations are met.

it is certain that we will see the star of Martial shine for many years, and it will be an interesting journey for another deceased son from the lights of France.
RMC put this apparently. So basically, it's 36m, unless he becomes the best striker around. Don't mind that.

He was though. One of top defenders in Serie A the season before he went to PSG.

I'll gladly accept extra €10m to the fee if he goes on to become the best player in the world or extra €5m if he's top scorer.

The fact that he's got pace and power, with good dribbling ability, should cause a lot of problems to defences, either on the wing or uptop.
