What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Cheers. I see he's just been called up to the France squad alright. Fekir looks quality, I've seen a bit of him and he looks really talented; he got a hat trick this weekend? I hear Lacazette isn't having the best of time and some fans have turned on him? Seems odd.

Because he took too long to commit himself for the contract extension. Lyon fans know he will leave, they just wanted him to sign this so that when he goes, the club will be well off with a big fee. Moreover he hasn't started the season well so it hasn't helped. However a few goals will make everyone happy.

United have wasted the entire summer pursuing strikers that are out of your reach, and now ....

B is for Button. P is for Panic.

You cannot even sign Berahino. Or win a game.

What really bothers me though is. Why are we even after a striker if Rooney is unbenchable and unsubable? Do we want a 50M striker on the bench, Do we?

He can play on the right i have read, so pretty versatile across the front. Exactly what we need, wont sit much on the bench if we rotate properly.

For this money, surely would have been better spending a bit more and getting Griezemann?! What the hell is United playing at:confused:
I agree. Even though, I have not seen much of Martial play beside his few champion league appearance, this signing seems questionable. For the fee being stated, has he done anything to merit such figure?

Nothing in this is there? Just tuned in..
Monaco willing to sell due to ffp in France or whatever, have set like a €45m or €50m fee, we allegedly bid €50m according to reliable sources. Exactly the player we need if he was 2 years older, but still a good player. Its a more normal price if you look at it in pounds... Like £35m, for one of the most promising young forwards who many see as the next big thing in France.

Yeah I was more joking than anything. If he is a special talent I'm all for going for him, haven't seen anything on him so I can't really comment too much on if he is worth that amount of money. Well let's see if this deal even goes through or not after all it seems like he is Monaco's starting striker so they won't be very open to a sale I guess.

That price is crazy

When you leave it to the last days of a window that lasted 3 months, you're completely at the mercy of the selling club.

We've royally fecked ourselves, so now we're likely to get bent over by whomever we do business with.

If this fee is true, we're clearly showing how desperate we have become.

Don't they have a billionaire owner?

Yeah, but Monaco can't beat the ffp, the club will never have big sponsors or big attendance. People talk about his divorce but it has nothing to do with the change of policy.

Yup fans are fickle and goals can do wonders.

never heard of him, never seen him play, sounds like too much money, dont care buy him.

I'm not worried about the price like, if he improves the team then so be it. Hopefully this happens.
This should be the view everyone on here takes. Who gives a feck about the price when you are as rich as united. Will he improve the team right now? Not drastically, though he'll give us pace and individual ability which we lack aside from Memphis. He has every shot at becoming one of the best forwards in Europe though, so it would be worth it eventually. If we wait, then somebody else will buy him and it'll be like an aguero case, wondering why we never bid for him.

Remember him doing well against Arsenal.

That's a lot of money for a 19 year old, he does have potential though. Why not just lump the money down for Lacazette?

Can we not turn every Glaston post into a discussion on Spurs?

This is something we would have laughed off a month ago. The fact we're excited about it now says a lot actually. If true, I imagine he was way down our list of targets who we haven't been able to get in or we would have tried to sign him earlier.

Aye was coming in to ask that. Maybe either too expensive or not for sale? Also I assume the fact that Martial can play as a winger might be in his favor?

So finally redcafe has seen Cavani score. And it happens while scouting a player from the opposition.

This merely tells me that you wish to avoid addressing the Anthony Martial panic buy issue.
It is a bit of a panic buy, but we have been monitoring him for a while. I think we would have bought him next season if he had a good season, but with Rooney struggling we have advanced the process.

Same can be said for Spurs with Berahino bid and then buying Son

Has he ever played as a lone striker?

Was alone up front against Valencia in the CL. Drifted out wide left at times to receive the ball at feet and run at his marker, but lots of 9s do that.

I was watching the PSG Ligue 1 opener against Lille a few weeks back and Cavani put on a clinic in terms of off the ball play while being confusingly shite on the ball. I think that's just his game. He works hard defensively, is an aerial threat, not selfish and makes great runs but he has no composure and is very inconsistent.

He'd walk into our team, frustrate us but do well. Andy Cole sort of thing, without the telepathic Yorke linkup.

This probably won't even happen. Probably just made up following the Rooney misses vs Swansea.

So would Stephen Hawking with Rooney in this kind of form.

Could be the fact he plays multiple positions.

Could also be because he can't replace captain fantastic up top, can he? He'll need to play elsewhere.

From the video it seems he is more comfortable playing on the left and cutting in, much like Memphis. There are instances in video of him playing right or through centre or right but predominantly he appears to favour left side.

If we sign him, I was wondering if him and Memphis altering as LW and no. 9 will see us attempt more shots. Both have terrific speed and are not afraid to shoot so either of them can get behind defense more regularly and shoot more often than Rooney who hesitates nowadays. Move Rooney to no. 10 and it will give him opportunity to roam around more which he loves and from there he and Mata can combine to move opposition defenders out of position thus creating space for these two.
