Anthony Martial

What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

The obvious caveat to that is harder leagues (for Vietto definitely). But I agree with what you are saying, a 19 year old with a 1 in 3 rate is really good, considering how good he is in other facets of the game also.

That could be an answer but the french league isn't an 'easy' league, it's a boring league. Just think about this Ayew, Diafra Sakho, Gomis, Aubameyang, Gomis or Giroud.

If we really bid €50m for Martial then surely he wouldn't have played against PSG this evening? I suppose the bid could've been made only after there was no more time to change the starting XI before kick off, but the. That leads to asking ho did RMC get a hold of this info so quickly? Is Martial in the process of contract renegotiations? Probably. Am I i being utterly cynical and pessimistic? Probably.

When it comes less than 48 hours before the windows shuts, and when it follows yet another terrible league performance by Rooney, and when you've previously been wasting your time pursuing unattainable targets like Muller and Kane, and if you're bidding 50m euros ... then yes, I think panic buy would be a fair assessment.

Btw, I never thought Spurs were close to getting him earlier this summer.

I will never understand you. Why would you bother racking up 7000+ posts trying to wind up Man Utd fans as a Spurs fan?

It's not like you are a rival club to Man Utd, both in terms of history or size. I can understand Liverpool fans or Arsenal fans to some extent, but a Spurs fan having digs at United supporters is so very strange.

It's just impossible for you to not look ridiculous. I mean go pick a fight with somebody your own size, got to a West Ham forum or something.

Monaco willing to sell due to ffp in France or whatever, have set like a €45m or €50m fee, we allegedly bid €50m according to reliable sources. Exactly the player we need if he was 2 years older, but still a good player. Its a more normal price if you look at it in pounds... Like £35m, for one of the most promising young forwards who many see as the next big thing in France.

Yea I know who he is, just unaware of situation, but thanks.. What does reliable sources mean? There is maybe something in this? I rate Martial highly, given a central role and responsibility, some can surpass their aged expectations

Yes Jesus is over 2000 years old and well past his best I'd much rather we spend big on someone for the future then a profet comming to the end of his career.
Can't deny he's consistently delivered since his Bethlehem days though, we need someone to make an instant impact.

Apparently the guy and paper breaking this is reliable and usually don't bullshit? And the first to break falcao or something. James ducker also retweeted us bidding for him so I think there may be truth to it.

Jesus is a superior crosser, and sacrifices a lot more for the team. Martial is a big prospect, though. Hehe.
Jesus was nailed on to make it, in fairness. Don't have quite the same faith in Martial.

Jesus is a fighter. Even when everything seems lost he comes back for more.

I could see him turn into a sort of Lewandowski, if he puts a bit of weight. But at the moment he isn't comparable to anyone.

Really? I don't see the Lewandowski comparison at all. He's not really got the technique or striker instincts of a Lewandowski type, or the link up.

Although it's very cliche to compare him to Thierry Henry, I can see the resemblance. He drifts wide and runs with the ball, his close control is superb and he has lightning pace. While he doesn't have the predatory instinct or finishing ability of Henry, or players such as Samuel Eto'o, George Weah, Andriy Shevchenko or Alexadre Pato, he does show some similarities at that age. It's easy to see how he has played as a winger that could make the transition to no.9.

His youthful naivety and directess, as well as his explosive pace, are his biggest strengths right now. That's a lot of what we're missing and he has so much scope for improvement. He's not at the level that Rooney was when we signed him, and he doesn't have the goal scoring ability of Memphis, but he is a prodigious talent. A risk worth taking even for the prices being quoted.

That's because he has the technique and like Lewandowski at 19 years old, he doesn't have the striker instinct.

So.. he's basically the French Danny Welbeck? I Feel we are going in circles.

He looks very good in the Valencia vid, I must say - much better than Memphis - but offering big money for an unfinished 19 year old this late in the window, if true, has a whiff of panic about it, and suggests that our summer transfer business has been mismanaged.

Edit: Monaco confirm he's staying.

Never heard of him before. Intense interest in everything about him for half an hour. Can now forget his very existence again.

If this is true, the fact that we are doing it last minute mostly likely means he was well down on the list of our transfer targets. It's concerning that none of the top players wanted to come to us.
More like its just a very big price for a young player, so its a bit of a gamble. A hugely promising player though. And our top targets were bale, Muller, lewandowski, fecking neymar, etc... Is it really concerning that players from equally as big clubs who are much better right now then us, dont want to come to us? Its not like we're getting turned down by mid table players besides, we signed schweinsteiger. He definitely wanted to come to us, Memphis turned down Bayern and PSG.

Not at all. 9 goals for a teenager in Ligue 1 is pretty good especially since he often played on the wing. Teenagers are usually not clinical finishers look at how many goals Ronaldo scored at 19.

Monaco are also a pretty defensive team, no?

In case anyone's not seen this. Skip to 1min for actual footage.

Seems like this is a goer. I can't get excited about this one though just yet. If there's more news tomorrow, I'll watch the Youtube clips

They say he's not going anywhere.
A reporter caught the guy off guard when asking the question, I wouldn't read anything into it. De Bruyne said on stage he was going nowhere last week wasn't it? Monaco apparently need to bring some money in to deal with ffp now that they didn't make it into the champions league. I'm sure they'll accept the offer if it's true.

Convinced the over inflated fee is to offset the commitment we had on falcao and didn't take up. All kinds of crazy shit goes on we're not aware of. Bebe

36m for an unproven French teenager? the fee's are going absolutely mental. He will hopefully bring some much needed pace to the attack. I cant see where he will fit in though, unless he will sub on for Rooney with 5 minutes to go :annoyed:

Looks a lot like Depay from the YouTube compilation with more moments on the right, but even then why are we going all out to invest in potential? Surely Pereira is worth a shot on the right?

So how much longer before he signs for Chelsea?
Pretty much this exact same story word for word came out a couple of weeks ago saying we also bid a huge sum. Nothing ever came of it obviously.
