Martial slows us down.
Leave him be, it's his chance to have a go at Martial in a while given they haven't had much opportunities lately.

A quiet game from Martial in a while would have always brought in comments like those.

So you're telling me you find Rashford inspiring. The player who has 2 goals for us this season and has been quite frankly awful throughout. But Martial, a player who only 3 months ago was fined by the club, was almost sold, started the season near the bottom of the pecking order, yet is now our top scorer with 7 goals having fought his way into the team to essentially single handedly save the job of a manager who has never really trusted him... isn't inspiring? Our whole attack revolves around getting the ball to Martial and hoping he creates something. Furthermore, opponents double and sometimes triple mark him to try and stop him from creating for us. Utterly bizarre post.

Whatever you may state about Rashford's form, as a player, he is in an inspiration, because he immediately affects how we play.. his speed, his desire, his movements, impact on the opposition, ... this changes the way we play. His form isn't great, but it isn't bad. He scores a winning goal against Bournemouth (an example of my point..) and what happens next game? He is benched. Last year, he wiped the floor of a v v good Liverpool team, smashed in two great goals. What happened? The boy is benched. So what do you expect?

Martial has single handlely saved Mourinho's job? You are living in a dream world. Martial has (finally) improved, and has scored seven goals, and is now looking more confident. BUT.. no, I do not think he is close to being the amazing player some on here suggest, but that is a personal opinion ok. He has potential, and when he arrived, he scored all types of goals... and I am pleased he is scoring again... hopefully he is gaining some maturity. But no, I do NOT feel that watching Anthony Martial is watching some inspirational player for United. he has shown he can score, this is critical. But inspiration? For united? You're kidding me.... Martial like other attacking players we have, suffers from a lack of a game-plan that brings the best out of him. I get that, fully, we all probably do. But let's not build him up to be some super, exceptional-fab player, without whom United would fall apart from an attacking sense. He doesn't have that presence, and needs far, far more consistency to his game, and a wider impact. Look at his performance on Sunday? And this is our inspirational player?

I want him to do well, and develop his game. But I worry when I see many suggesting he is some Ballon D'or in the making. He has a long, long way to go before that, and he owes United a big season, not a few goals. I want to see him dictate our attacking play. Look at Sane at City. Hazard at Chelsea. Zaha. Mane at Pool... Martial isn't on their level of consistency yet. Let's big the guy up yes, but don't get carried away. Martial drifts too much in games, and that isn't the sign of some top, top, player. It's up to him and the manager to get that into his game.. IF, he is able to do that. I have seen many players score a few goals in consecutive ganes, and then just... well, go missing. Remember Jesse Lindgard? And I love that boy.. but where is the consistency? Where are they turning things around? Winning not just the odd games, but two, three, four... destroying teams, week in, week out?

None of our players (aside from spells when Pogs steps up...) seem capable of doing this. This is partly down to their ability (again, personal opinion) and also, the adverse tactics and slightly bizarre, awfully negative management style of Mourinho.

A post without a substance. How did Rashford inspire anything today? Also Sterling didnt do any real defending today.
The real question is how the whole team looked frightened to play the ball.

No one inspired on Sunday. One game (or two, or three..) does not make a player. But I would argue that Rashford certainly does inspire our team... he plays in a different way to any of our attackers, and even when his form or decisions are questionable, he gives us something. I fully agree with Shearer and Ian Wright who state that Rashford needs a consistent run in the team. How can you question whether Sterling inspires his team? You can see it. His manager has made him better. Unfortunately, we do not have that luxury, as our manager seems to stagnate the development of players.

Thats an excuse. He is part of the team so he is also part of the problem. This is something that i and many others have echoed from watching him play with our very own eyes.Hence the reason why many have criticized his movement. Or lack of it.

He is a very good potentially great player and i am glad we have him but he has his faults.Dont get me wrong he doesnt always slow us down but he does it a lot.

De gea is also part of the team so must be part of the problem, sell him!

Aĺl these many words for nothing... if you feel rashford is inspirational compared to martial for winning us one game when martial has done far more this season then there's no saving you..

I don't care how many people you claim echo it, it's still nonsense. Again, Martial is basically about as poor of a choice you can make to level those criticism at compared to the rest of the offense. Whether you want to look at Lukaku, Rashford, or Sanchez.....your criticism would have applied a bit better to any of them over Martial. It just sounds like you want to criticize for the sake of it, and not based on actual merit or logic.

It's just rubbish that Jose has built about work rate in any player he doesn't want to work with. Unfortunately for him he was left with no option but to use him.

People will still assume that running around like rabbits is the key to winning games - but martial whether he is the hardest worker or not, could be gotten better use of & that is something that resonates with every single other player.

The way we even defend shows a lack of team cohesion in comparison to a team like Liverpool - when they press you see nearly the whole damn 11 players press. The same with City or to be more precise - the way they retain possession as a defensive tactics as a team. Ours is already just sitting deep and the rest are tracking back from the box to our own.

Jose wants his own players so he can form his own team - he hasn't the clue to get the best out the players at his disposal both attacking & defensive.

What is this?
Martial is amongst the most productive players in the PL both this season and last.
He is the only player we have that gets people of the edge of their seats so yes he is inspirational.
Consistency won't arrive until the manager chance his tactics totally.

Agreed, and the worst part is that Jose did get some of his players, but not all of them and the board seems reluctant to trust him to make the team over because he's not someone who stays around a club for too long and, more importantly, he hasn't shown an ability to get the best out of the players he had a choice in bringing in. I think Jose is a good enough manager to be able to do better with what he has. I don't agree with him that getting this team to second last season is his greatest achievement, but I do concede it certainly was a good one. I don't think this United team is better than City or Liverpool, no one in their right mind would, but it should not be where it's currently sitting in the standings.

Well considering he had a shocking game yesterday as he has done before and this is a martial thread he deserves to get criticized.

Same way when he has a good game he deserves to get praised.

You know martial is the one who played the wonderful through ball to lukaku for the penalty and scored the penalty. The only bit of decent play from any of our players.

He didn't have a shocking game. He was the only player who offered any quality attacking wise. As mentioned he is the one who played the great through ball that finally cut open city's defence for the penalty and stepped up and scored it. He definitely is more on the ok end of the scale. No where near a shocking game. That was matic

Come off it. "Shocking game", some of you needs to get banned from certain threads, the agenda is palpable.

He wasn't shocking. What's shocking is you saying he was shocking.

The talent is there, it always has been, and fortunately he hasn't regressed or suffered a severe injury. Makes you wonder what an attacking coach can do with him.

Well i certainly thought he had a bad game.
Looking through the thread at the end of the game so did many others.

Can i ask do you think he had a good game?

Just went back through some old posts in this thread and saw people stating that Martial was struggling with autism.

There was especially this Haram fellow pushing for that narrative

Whoa. Tony suffering from autism?

We need more autistic players

Get a right sided version of him and we’d have a devastating attack.
And also a centre forward version of him and maybe an attacking midfielder version of him and possibly a centre half version of him and then we'd be absolutely devastating.

What the :lol: I’ve had that fellow on Ignore for the longest time but it might be time to take him off so I can read this. It sounds so outlandish it needs to be heard much like the musings of CA1 and that cheeky back heel fellow.

He even posted some twitter nucklehead's nonsensical tweets as proof of his argument.

The first 30 pages of this thread have me rolling

Edit: There was another guy who stated that Martial lacks the right cultural aspects to live decently or something. Claimed that in most countries(especially where he's from) he'd be repudiated and shunned by society for having 2 children by age 22.

Some gems back then

Alright I’ll go have a look

@mancan92 that video is good, some of the things he can do are incredible. There is one thing who was the person he megged and that person just kept on walking but put their hands on their head. I remember it happening but just not who it was against.

We don't speak about it in here. Come back again when he had a good game.

He couldn't have done any better in the circumstances

Christ. I recall those times (like 2 months ago). The abuse and language being used was incredible. I'm not sure what's going on in these people's lives that they feel the need to level such ridiculous insults towards one of our own and best players.

The comments about autism were absolutely comical, same as the fella giving about him and his kids  The fecking agenda posters on this forum can't really tell what's real and what's fiction fabricated in their own minds.

We are, and yet Martial still manages to trump everyone.

I'm not asking for him to inexplicably manage to single handily win games when everyone else wank; I am saying that more should be expected of him at least to try and make a difference in tight matches when we're under the cosh.
I actually kind of agree with you. I remember watching a moment in the game we’re lingard sent in a cross straight to the keeper (obviously) but then the camera had a full view of the box and he made absolutely no effort to get into the box. Thought that very strange.

When I think of his movements he generally likes that tiki taka or 1 - 2 passes which we often see him trying to pull off. Other than that there might be a few runs he makes which our midfielders never pick up.

This has led me to believe is the mAin reason he usually drifts in and out of games. Moving forward he needs to be more demanding of the ball like hazard. Also would like to see him force the issue earlier during games than wait till the last 20 minutes. We often see him pass the ball back sometimes(maybe he is waiting for the team to move further up the pitch as a whole).

I will also note that his movement really was never a problem under van gall. Maybe because he was closer to goal most of the time? It’s also very hard to be very accurate of his movements regardless of what the stats say because our whole team never runs. As much as I like analyzing our players it’s very hard to draw up conclusions when most of the time we’re playing in a terrible system. If we had a balanced system it would be easier to see were most of our players need to improve. How am I supposed to really judge martial when he spends most of his energy tracking back. It affects his overall sprints in the areas which really matter. I’m tired so enough ranting till tomorrow.
