I mean it was a simple lay-off to Lukaku. Lukaku did all the hard stuff in that goal. I thought Martial was not really in the game until the assist. Miles better than Rashford and has been for a while now though.

He's an underrated crosser of the ball. He has a habit of actually crossing to a United player, a trade that is lost on most of our crossers.

Just saw the replay of the second goal. His little celebration when Lukaku scored was great.. The match was won, but Martial still enjoyed that.

He is just fantastic player with potential to be even better. But the thing with him is that he learns. His decision making this year is excellent. When to pass, when to cross, when to go one on one. Always good call in right time. And that is huge difference between him and rashford who has also fantastic skill but is more one dimensional player because he doesn't have martial's game reading.
Our counters with martial are always dangerous

It's not THAT simple to get that pass right. He's running at speed and has to make sure to get it past the defender but not behind Lukaku. It's one of those things that players quite often get wrong

Thank you! His crossing is not all spectacular. He's quite subtle with it which is probably why it goes mostly unnoticed. He uses his intelligence well, and actually more often than not gets it to a United player.

Put it this way, a forward for a top club should be getting those passes right 9/10 times. Martial is definitely technically good enough to make that pass most of the time. Martial has done some ridiculous things, so that pass was nothing special in my opinion.

I actually thought the pass could have been better as he played it straight at Lukaku rather than into his stride. That's why lukaku struggled a bit to get it out from under his feet and couldnt hit it first time. But just splitting hairs here. What i liked about it was the decision to pass it back rather than try to score himself. So all in all, good pass.

He and Lukaku definitely have chemistry.
Yeah. I'm actually baffled how it hasn't been acknowledged by the media. I've only heard Gary Neville mention it, other than that it seems to go under the radar.

I've seen them set themselves up a lot this season. I bet they've got the most combined set up goals and assists between them in our team, which brings me to wondering why Mou hasn't tried to stick more with a front 2 of them or at least play Martial more centrally, meaning closer to Lukaku since he won't drop the latter and martial seems to elevate and combine well with Lukaku.

Or, you could argue that Lukaku ran to far forward making that pass almost impossible. A great pass also depends on the recipient.

3-4-1-2 with Lukaku and Martial up top and Lingard behind would be great to see sometime.

I think that’s probably the best formation with our current squad and its strengths and weaknesses. Still not getting the best out of Pogba in that, but at least getting the best out of Lukaku-Martial-Lingard.

I've noticed more crosses to the last post for Lukaku recently. He doesn't cross balls with the same whip like Rashford does but it's very good to see that he can do the chipped one. Needs to mix it up though.

And what the hell is a moral assist anyway.
I couldn’t find the right word, but giving the ball a yard sideways to someone who then does all the work by beating two men and hitting a screamer from 30 yards is not an assist in the true sense of the term.

We need to play him off Lukaku with Jesse in behind. This is our best linkup atm.

Martial not fast?

He's lightning quick, if anything I'd love it if he went into foot races more often, he sure has the ability to do it.

Hope he keeps starting most matches. Him and pogba are by far our best talents

I remember at the start of the season, Lukaku and Rashford were lauded as the next Cole and Yorke...and it wasn’t until he scored off the bench that people remembered how good Martial was.

Martial seems to have more chemistry with big Rom on the pitch.

Has a real, functioning brain and that's one of the differences between him and Rashford. The sink cross to Lukaku, when Lukaku was just offside, was so refreshing. Rashford gets into that position and absolutely leathers the ball. Martial picks out Lukaku on a real strength of his.

He's strong and quick, a good dribbler and a good finisher. The consistency is coming. He loves us and we love him!

They certainly form a very complimentary triumvirate, and lined up like this all three are in optimal positions.

Martial benefits greatly from the reduced distance he needs to cover off the ball, both in terms of not having to get up and down the pitch as a winger, and not having to work the entire forward line.

Along with having a reasonably all-round, line-leading, defence-stretching, poaching target man running the inside right channel and a no.10 who is a willing runner, all about creating and exploiting space through constant movement, Martial’s position allows him to move entirely naturally - back to goal, drifting wide or deep in his favoured inside left channel.

It will only be used (the 3-4-1-2 that is) in certain situations though, and will not become the default system for our team. I would enjoy seeing us try a 4-4-2 diamond which would also be great for Pogba and Matic in the inside left midfield and holding roles respectively.

There would be a question mark over the right-sided midfield slot, naturally - there has been issues with performances in both the right wing and no.10/ third midfielder positions all season so it certainly isn’t a problem which would be created by playing this formation.

Maybe a diamond is our best option to fit everyone comfortably, Lingard gets to play behind the striker, Martial gets to play as a striker and Pogba is part of a Midfield 3.

You're right. They do.

commentary is awesome on the Martial goals.

I'd love it if Martial and Lukaku could combine like Eto'o and Milito did at Inter. I think getting an out and out winger on the right side; that runs the pitch dry will help Martial massively. At the moment we have two creative players on each wing; meaning that they both have to play within themselves to prevent getting counter attacked. If we had a hard working winger on the other side, we can create a lopsided formation where Martial and Lukaku are a strike partnership.

No love for Pogba?

Clearly the chemistry between him & Lukaku as central forward is the best we have at the moment.

Was about to report you... :wenger:
Pogba is obviously not an attacker.
