I'm pretty sure the players agree with the agent in private whilst saying the opposite in public. An agent's job is to make their client's life as easy as possible. That sometimes means saying things in public (or leaking info to the press) that their players are too scared to say to the manager.

He took a bad knock at the end of the Boro game, hopefully that's all there is to it. If we had continued to need a goal I'm sure he would have been the third sub.
Mata has arguably been our player of the season yet he isn't safe from rotation, Martial has had like 4 good games all in all. I myself thought he deserved to come on instead of Rashford, but Rashers practically won the game for us so I'm not complaining. I'll be more worried if Tony doesn't get to play a lot in the upcoming two cup games.
Any reason why he didn't feature today? He was so good on Saturday, I thought he was nailed on to start today.
Don't know. Sounded in Jose's post match like he was going to send him on, but had to put Smalling there because he anticipated Carroll coming on. Looks more like giving minutes to others like Rashford who didn't play 90 mins on Saturday. Think that's all it is. Should get a run out against Reading I would think..

He took a knock against Boro and that's why I think he wasn't risked against West Ham.

It's tough for Jose though because Rashford and Lingard are also young lads who need game time. That's why I'd like him to try either Marcus or Martial up top in easier fixtures to give Zlatan a rest as well as game time for them. They are all missing out competing for that one spot on the left now that Micky has already nailed down the right.
He was probably ok to play the full game but Mourinho didn't think it was necessary to risk him, is my thinking.

With hindsight, Rashford literally changed the game for us and was MOTM by Sky for playing less than 1 half!
We don't know for certain, but Martial did take a knock last game and fitness may also be a concern. Rashford also picked up on from by these last 2 cameo and with less playing time in previous game has more in his tank than Martial
Who knows if he was rested, dropped or not risked because maybe he was carrying a knock. Mourinho didn't give away much in his post-match conference and it's pointless to speculate whether it's Mourinho giving him tough love with all the nonsense with his agent or he was simply dropped.

In fairness he played 90 minutes and looked like he took a heavy knock on the penalty shout. I'm sure Jose knows his quality.
Mourinho did mention he still had Martial in his plans to come on before we scored, so I wouldn't read much into it. We have some very good options for the attacking midfielders and wingers (for a change), and with both Martial and rashford still very young, neither are going to start every game or close to it, especially not 2 games in 48 hours. Martial ran his ass off against Boro and took a heavy knock in the game but put in a great performance which Mourinho acknowledged after that game, so him missing today wasn't that big of a surprise really, considering Lingard has been very decent and then Rashford had a good impact off the bench in the last game and was fresher which made all the difference.

I think Mikhi needs a rest too. Starting both games and clearly knackered later on today. Faded in the second half. Probably having something like Martial- Rashford-Lingard with Mata as no 10
Mourinho said in his post-match interview that he made the decision to keep the freshness of Mata and Rashford on the bench rather than start them from the beginning. He didn't mention Martial, but I think the same logic applied to Martial.
Mourinho's idea was to let the fresh Lingard run at their tired fullback and then bring on reinforcements when he was losing steam. The plan worked perfectly.
Martial was Mourinho's last attacking sub, but the goal changed that and he brought on Smalling instead, anticipating the entrance of Andy Carroll.
My guess is that Rashford had been prepared for the wide role, pinning the fullback back, so since width was the first priority Mourinho brought him on first. Martial could be used as another striker, playing more centrally if further tactical aggression was needed. Plus, I think Rashford was more rested than Martial going into the match.

Mourinho also mentioned that Slavan Bilic had no defenders among his subs to bring on to relieve his tired fullback (as Mourinho did with Blind in our last match), so he knew that he just needed to attack the fullback until he folded
The bottom line is that if you are going to freshen up your team, then you either pull Mkhitaryan or Martial in favor of Lingard, and between those two Mkhitaryan got the nod.

One of either him or rashford needs to start up front as Zlatan needs a rest now. Been a typical sophomore season so are for both.

His close control and dribbling is just sexy to watch, it looks like he could go through everyone ahead of him if he felt like it sometimes. His passing and vision are top notch as well, he will get bags of assists once he settles in the team. I know it's unlikely but I would love to see him played as a 10 behind Zlatan or even Rashford sometime, his other outstanding attributes mask a huge playmaking potential. The people who inserted the balon d'or clause hadn't just took a bong hit after all. The sky is the limit with him, I really hope it mentally clicks if it hasn't already and he goes above and beyond on his craft. Martial would have benefited so much from Evra had he stayed as a mentor, my dream is for Mourinho to bring him back as a coach in the coming years.

Well he looks unstoppable today.
Best player on the pitch so far. In this form, he's some player.
He is playing this game with such an ease, it's like when you play PES on amateur, looks few levels above.
