We don't need stats. Rashford has been overall more effective at integrating into what Mourinho wants.
Being a Mourinho darling and being effective are 2 different things! Martial have been better than Rashford but for some strange reasons, Jose prefers the latter!
Don't forget that Jose, at the start of the season, prefered Fellaini to Herrera!

He hasn't really. If anything they've been comparable, which tilts things in Rashfords favor if he has a better attitude in training and does what Mourinho asks of him. Just look at the above tweet from Solhekol, it says it all - Jose considers today's performance as one of a new player - as in, he wasn't doing what he wanted from him throughout the year.

He's setting precedents within the squad which has longer term gains in mind. He exaults those who commit to and for him and it encourages others to do the same for the sake of their careers.

He's an excellent man manager, couldn't care less what all the precious fans on here who get upset at what he says say about him.

The players who have fallen out with him in the past are just poor professionals with an ego in the way as far as I'm concerned. The players who commit to him and respond positively to his criticism all do very well.

You mean Eden Hazard? The worship towards Mourinho here became funny now. Martial was great last season, he is good this season whenever given constant playing time. Same can be said of Mkhitaryan. Yeah Mourinho is god, he make both players looking good again!

Said it in another thread but he could make or break our season. 8-9 games to show us what he can really do and drag us over the line.

If he gets in gear, we'll get top 4. On his day, he can damage any team.

He was excellent today, not just the goal and assist but the movement and energy up top, some stat popped up that he made 71 sprints today, Jose will have loved that.

Let's finish this season like we did last. Martial and Rashford linking up but this time supported by Mkhitaryan. Lingard blending in with them nicely as well.

I would love to see that... we'll see what happens..

You're missing the point. Its not about being a Mourinho darling, its about doing what Mourinho asks of him in training in order to justify selecting him on matchday. How he trains is a part of his effectiveness as a player.

A much improved performance. Instead of trying to dribble his way into the goal he was playing on the last shoulder and linking up with team-mates. His pressing was good as well. He was physically dominated on several occasions so it wasnt a complete performance. Hopefully he can keep this up and play a big part in next season.

He was torturing defenders throughout the game with his dribbling and close control, going past them with relative ease.

Playing him centrally gives him more options and allows him to be more dangerous.

Would be interesting to see him and Rashford in attacking duo.

Maki it happen Jose!

Played exactly how Jose wanted. Lots of energy and was effective. Let's hope he Carey's on the same form for the rest of the season. Great to see him respond the right way.

Great to see that :). The boy just needs the trust and he will fly.

So much better from the lad. Let's hope he finally understands what's expected of him going forward. Another great example of Jose managing this set of players brilliantly.

Mourinho getting praise for Martial's performance is hilarious tbh.

Some people will stop at nothing to portrait Mourinho as a second coming.

Open criticism can be a real form of motivation. Even in his first season Martial's movement was poor. For a player with his pace movement is the most important thing. If he adds this he'll be unstoppable.

So far we have Mikhi, Shaw and Martial responding to the criticism. Also Jose is quick to praise them when they do as asked.

Martial wasn't playing centrally; he was alternating along the front line with Rooney and Lingard. All 3 were working their socks off; Martial did a lot of his work on the wings. Aside from the first Goal Martial was ineffective in the centre, he lost most of his aerial duels and was pushed off the ball quite often, Burnley physically dominated everyone on the pitch except Fellaini, Pogba and Bailly. Herrera was good this game but he was pushed off the ball easily a few times.

I don't think Martial should ever play in a 2 striker system. He doesn't have the hold-up play or off the ball movement to play in that system. Rashford is much better suited to that. I think the best situation for us is to get Griezmann and play him, Martial and Rashford as a fluent front 3 (also including Mata and Micky as well). A 2 striker system is something most managers avoid because it is too static, they either choose 1 striker and accomodate his weakness into the team (Ibra, Costa, Lewandoski etc.) or 3 fluent attackers.

He's a forward and not a left winger and this is proven again today.

I actually think Martial could play just off of Rashford well.

Go and watch that game again and you'll see he was mostly starting and finishing attacks through the middle.

Saw your name and knew it would be something against Mourinho

Someone needs to do a side-by-side of his goal today and the Rooney goal vs Arsenal in 09/10 with the Nani assist.
