How short-sighted is this?
This forum in a nutshell.

There are talks of wanting psg to fork 60 million for Pogba being a God sent gift if rhat were ever to happen. People wanting Martial gone etc.

Plenty of ignorant posters festing these boards.

For some reason it's becoming sort of common for all players. Players don't mind losing Pogba, Martial, Shaw.

People have no patience at all and still want us to sign young players from all over the world.

United would be crazy to even consider selling Martial (not that I think they will) and I for one would be seriously disappointed if he was. Not least for how talented he is and how much better he can become....simply the amount of investment that is tied into his development. He's had a difficult season but so have most of the squad.

Great young talent is difficult to acquire in the modern game, so much competition for their signature.

It's mad. Even if we sold Martial and bought Mbappe, do people think he wouldn't struggle at different points?

I wouldn't be particularly devastated if he left in the summer.

From all our transfers he was among the youngest, enormous fee also and he produced in LVG toothless tactics leading the line. But yeah, let's sell him because he struggles in his second season under the new manager.

Don't know if he will play today. Nothing has gone right for him this year. New manager, new players requiring time to adjust, new tactics. Next month will be huge for so many players. Him, Rashford, Shaw.

Bring any flavor of the month player or muppet dream player people are currently raving on about now, let them have some under par games and this forum will be full of people wanting them gone.

Such an annoying mentality some people have. It's absolutely irritating.

Doubt he will as he trained separately yesterday due to whatever knock he got in training.

Read my post. I didn't say I wanted him sold, I said I wouldn't be devastated if he left.

@Garethw I did read it. He is still our top talent. You don't sell him because of 1 bad season.

If he played in that Monaco side last night without defensive restriction he would look like a world beater. He is least of our worries.

Why would he? What’s changed since February 21st and ”I love Manchester United, I love the club, I love the fans. I want to stay as long as possible at this club.” ?

Hopefully he can feck off back to France during the summer break, sort all this shit out with his childs mother and come back for next season with the weight of the world off his shoulders.

His is an incredibly gifted young player, but he needs to get his head straight and his personal life in order or he will risk ruining his career.

This.

And then when we sign this new "star," and he doesnt reach the heights of what was expected, the same people just say sign a different player.

Its a cycle. We sign a player. He doesnt impress. Then they say sign another player. This goes on and on season after season.

Problem with this one is that he already impressed. Agree with everything else.

It's ridiculous this place at times. We could sign Dembele, Mbappe and players of that ilk. One bad run, the CAF psychologists will be out about mentality and dress sense.

If the player has different hair style then they will question his character and how seriously he is taking his career.

The not signing world class players mentality comes from when we could afford to nurture players into the team....because we had a load of world class players and it was the perfect environment to do that.
Buying a Bale or Sanchez would be great for us right now. Not great for Martial, though he'd still have time to come into the team if it was Sanchez. A modern footballer probably isn't interested in that though, specially not after having the number 9.

I want him to succeed here, but we desperately need to improve the attack and the left side is currently the weakest part of it.

It's games like today why you can see Jose prefers Lingard over him. Positionally Jesse is so much better than Martial in knowing where to get the ball to start counter attacks. As talented as Martial may be, in a Mourinho set up waiting for the ball to be given to you at the feet in the position assigned to you is not going to happen all that often. Furthermore, Lingard tendency to close opponents down is greater than Martial's.

Martial will start some games but it is hard for me to see him cement his position in the starting XI unless he decides to add more dimensions to his game rather than just on the ball movement.

This guy is fast becoming the new Nani on here, when he comes on he needs to start performing to his capability. His talent is unquestionable.

It's no mystery why Mourinho doesn't fancy him, he doesn't work hard enough and he seriously needs to sort him himself out.

What did you expect him to do today? Did you see our tactics?

He came on for 15 min, accompanied by 9 united defenders. What did you expect.

Not sure, but did he touch the ball more than once today? However, it was Mourinho's fault, imo. Giving away the initiative like that was foolish. Martial should have come on for Rashford in the 60th minute as Rash looked knackered.

Witch hunt is on. Don't ruin their chances of planting the seeds to later mention this game amongst the rubbish performances they will use to justify their "Martial's crap and overrated" argument.

A disappointing season so far from Martial, don't know how anyone can disagree.

Same applies to both Shaw and to a slightly lesser extent, Rashford; all looked as good as any of the current Monaco fanboy favourites last season. Common factor: Mourinho.

Even as a reluctant wide player, Martial of last season should envy nothing of Eden Hazard, who's 6 years older. He beats men as easily, provides decent crosses and can finish himself (17 goals and 11 assists in his first season in a new country, under an allegedly 'negative' manager support that)

Those trying to belittle his talent and potential have been brainwashed by Jose. I'd dare say he was even better than Ronaldo at the same age.

Wow!

Indeed. But it's been a disappointing season from nearly everyone barring Ibra. Pogba and Mourinho have been disappointing themselves this season. Moreover, it's not really surprising that Martial has struggled given how little faith Mourinho has put in him, and how all the bright young talents have been rather shit under Mourinho so far - Rashford, Shaw, TFM etc.

Hopefully it's a short term thing and they all excel soon.

You can't compare Shaw to Martial, he had a terrible injury and as it stands hasn't returned to the same level prior to it.

Rashford is a few years behind Martial in his development and has played out of position more often than not. The pair of them had whirlwind seasons last eyar and become huge stars over night. A summer of no football will benefit the both of them and a little bit less expectation from both of them will gain greater returns.
