Looked abysmal in the first half, if Depay had put in a half like that I'd dread to think of the reaction on here. Really needs to step it up or he is in danger of losing his first XI spot.

Reading the match day thread and stick he was getting. Ridiculous .

He's 19 and barely had a pre season. The second season is also tougher. Too many experts on his personal life on here.

There is no one to take his place and unfortunately Depay plays as shit for the first half as the second half.

has not fired yet and seems to be out of form. Which is perfectly fine. He's should not have the responsibility of the team on his shoulders.

Luckily, We've started the season well and Ibra is covering for him.

He'll regain form very soon, and if he doesn't, we'll play someone else there and he can recovering the reserves.

Great defending for the 2 moments in front of goal.

He is atleast making and getting the chances. They will go in eventually.

Much like against Bournemouth he improved in the second half, and we are starting to see Ibra look for him as well as Pogba and Shaw forming a triangle with him on the left, just needs one to go in for him as he's getting in the positions.

He was admittedly shit in the first half but he pulled it together in the second and did well. His dribbling brings a different dimension to our play so he is worth persisting with till he regains some form.

Martial has good will in the bank. Depay just has a season of performances like that.

Looked awfully leggy in the first half and then just exploded past their defense on that run making Fonte look pedestrian. Improved in the second half, but was awful in the first

Is he one of the few players who are faster with the ball than without? He can look a little slow and uninterested chasing a ball but explodes with it.

Thought he did very well after the break. His first half was average/anonymous, but it definitely wasn't "abysmal".

I said it 4 weeks ago, he will have a difficult 2nd season. He needs time and work and with Jose, I don't see an issue

Just a bit unlucky and lacking in sharpness today - he still did plenty right and on another day would have scored. I'm not worried yet about him at all

He gets himself into some good positions but affords himself too much time when he has to finish. Two excellent chances went by because of that. Still so young and already has fantastic attributes, he'll have a good season.

He is our best player in my opinion. Attitude is a bit weird but just a young thing.

Completely agree.

He doesn't look far off the player we saw last year. The primary difference is that Van Gaal essentially used him the same way he used Robben, which was to constantly funnel him the ball as the primary attacking threat on the team and the only player capable of consistently beating his man. This year, they haven't been as reliant on him so far which has led to less impact. The times where he does get 1-on-1 or does have a run at players, he's still as dangerous as ever. I really hope they start integrating Mkhi more, as the complete lack of pace around him is glaringly obvious at this point.

Much better second half from him. Hoping he scores soon which may just lift a lot of pressure of him given the season he had last season. Opposition still looked scared off him though as they look to double up on him which should open up space for others (eg Shaw).

Similar game to the Bournemouth one.

Quiet first half. Second half looked positive and pacey, running direct and causing problems, but lack of confidence in his end product. That will come when he gets more minutes and hopefully a goal under his belt.

I thought he looked great today especially in the second half ran the Southampton back four ragged at times.

The game is a sign he will be amongst the goals this season. Could have scored a brace.
Another 15+ goal season would great.

Looked good today.

More play time will further his understanding with Zlatan, Ibra and Pogba.

Feel he is one who would benefit greatly from Mata and Mkhitaryan both starting alongside him behind Zlatan. The potential interchanging there could be beautiful.

Got better in the second-half. Probably just needs a goal to get him some belief and confidence. He doesn't look 100% sharp at the moment so something must be up.

Goals will come,he was real threat on that left along with Shaw and Pogba, its early in season and he's getting there where he has left last season,an fine tune on his finishing will produce lot of goals.

Looked better today I thought. Perhaps he was a bit quiet in the first half but he doesn't look totally fit. He gets better in the second half but his lack of pre season catches up with him then, he just needs a few weeks. He's certainly not a worry for me, he's just too good to have a bad season. He just needs to start putting some chances away again and we're laughing. How old is he though about 20? He's miles ahead of where you can expect any player at that age to be, him
and Rashford have huge futures
With us I'm sure.

Not in form but remains an effortless goal threat.

DDG was our best player last season and now with Pogba and Zlatan, Martial cannot be considered the best among the outfield players anymore. It is actually good news for him, less focus and less pressure on him.

I wonder if having a relatively static #9 doesn't suit him. One of his favoured combinations last season was to link up (perhaps a 1-2) with the striker pulling wide into the channels; Rashford and he did this well at times. Spent a lot of the game defending and chasing back, and it's surprising that the guy who could beat a double-marking job last season has repeatedly been stopped mid-dribble this time.

I think he was a little unlucky not to score, it was an excellent sliding block from whoever made it which denied him a good goal scoring opportunity. He was trying things and on another day they would come off. Off form he is still better than Memphis.
