The biggest problem is getting him involved with actual touches and touches in the right areas.

We're finding it hard to isolate him with the full backs and atm there's isn't a natural triangle of link up play on his side compared to the right.

He needs to find a balance with Shaw, find a balance with the central midfielders (e.g when Herrera plays, his tendency is to dictate the right side of the pitch and Fellani is just all over) and hope to link up with the two central attackers like Zlatan (should come in time) and Rooney (we know that ain't fecking happening).

Also I think he's playing waaaay too orthodox as left winger. He's quite disciplined, not sure through tactics or his own choice but he's playing as a left sided midfielder, tracking back full back runs and then dribbling from the half way line. Expending too much energy in the wrong places imo.

We should be looking to control the game and give him the ball much higher up the pitch. It's earrrrrrrrrllllllly days but those are the main concerns for me. His individual ability is not in doubt.
Top marks for this. I noticed that as well. Way too disciplined compared to our right side.

If you noticed Lingard's or Mata's movement on the right, they both had a lot more freedom to drift inside and sometimes play through the middle. It should be tactical, I think it is.

Against Bournemouth, I noticed that Martial started drifting inside a lot more in the 2nd half, (as seen by that Ibrahimovic assist) and it's this half that I thought he played really well. Mourinho must have changed the tactics and I'm sure he saw the positive play after.

At the moment, my guess is that Shaw is still not at 100%. He probably still can't attack and defend at the intensity that Mourinho wants. Valencia on the other hand looks a 100 hence the different approach on our two wings.

I reckon he will have a bad season due to him cheating on his wife with that bang tidy English X Factor wannabe singer.

I think next season he will be at his best when we hopefully sell Rooney.

I'm Not saying we should write his season off but with young players it needs patience like Ronaldo had for years before he produced anything

Realistically speaking, what do you guys think will be his ceiling? Prime Ribery with more goals? Suarez without the defensive effort, but better at playmaking?
He's nothing like those players. He's no Ribery that's for sure. His ceiling is extremely high though, I've seen few players at that age that can do the stuff he can. Its whether he can figure the game out and learn to be effective in the final third that'll determine how far he goes. He's got that Brazilian Ronaldo natural ability. That's where I'd put his ceiling.

The stuff about him cheating on his wife came out long before the season finished. That didn't stop him having a terrific end to the season.
The most important thing was that he looked close to being himself during the second half against Bournemouth.
To me that suggests it's simply a fitness issue.

Man Utd 2:0 Southampton
Should really up his game in the second half. Has been quite anonymous.

I think he did fine against Bournemouth but he's been awful today. Looks just slow in everything he does. Jose needs to wake him up.

looks kind of out of the game, as if it is passing him by

Seems to also be playing it very safe. Maybe he's overawed by the nee big name players? If so he really shouldn't given how incredibly talented he is.

Absolutely off the pace tonight. Not even anonymous, he's been detrimental. Looks like his head is elsewhere.

Get Rashford on quickly after the break, and let Martial rest it out and sort his head.

He's playing very centrally, leaving Shaw on his own on the left a lot of the time. Not sure if he's under instruction but it doesn't suit him.

Even if it all happened towards the end of last season, it's clear that there are issues right now, with them slagging each other off in public. Given he's a 20 year old man, he probably didn't think much about how his life would change while he was enjoying a bit of strange for a period, so it's not really surprising that he might struggle more now than when it happened, as the changes are all starting to register.

The poor performance in the Euros and then losing No 9 to Zlatan seem to have hit his confidence. He'll be ok, give him a month.

Best time to be off form - when new arrivals have taken the spotlight away from him. Maybe the two things are linked? As in I wonder if he got used to being the main man and still undergoing his adaptation process with the new reality?

A bit shit in the last few weeks including Euros, but probably the best time to be in this form. He is still very young, so a dip in form should be expected, hopefully he will get back to his best soon.

He's very out of sorts. I'd like to see him given a rest for a few games and Rashford take his place.

Very poor, and his off ball movement needs a lot of work
That's my biggest wary with him the movement, the lad seems to have no killer instinct for now. There was a moment after Mata passed the through ball to Zlatan first time who crossed the ball into the box and IMO martial should be getting on the end of those on the far post while he was juggling forward. That's gonna be his bread and butter and someone has to point him out this.

Was about to post exactly the same thing, very peculiar just how central he is, we have four number 10s on the pitch all trying to play in a 10 yards by 10 yards space

We just have to stick with him. he has qualities no one else in the squad does and he's not going to get better on the bench. but looking at the game, hes playing almost as a CF.

Feels like if he gets a goal it will click in place
This. His two chances, one was a fantastic recovery from van Dijk. The second, he should have taken it quicker, admittedly. But he's been on some good runs this half. He looks like he's getting his swagger back.

just missing the final touch/goal and we would be praising this performance, has been unlucky with final touch, some great runs though
