Awesome today. Hope Mourinho gets over whatever issues he has with him and keeps him in the team. Offers us things other player simply don't

I think we should trust Mourinho in his man management of Martial. He's stated that the press have the wrong idea..that he is happy. Today was a great day for both of them.

We lost a few valuable points while he was dropping him

The main difference I saw today was better running off the ball, he was superb with a goal and assist and a cuddle off Jose, all is well in the world again!

Like it or not, Jose does seem to be harsher and expect more of Martial (than Rashford for example). But that in itself tells you that he knows Martial can be a world beater, and I reckon he knows how to get him there.

He is literally our best attacking player(when played) ever since start of the year, and he probably had even better games than today, but no wonder goal and assist today will be all down to Mourinho's threatment.

Pretty much seems to be the case in every thread I've seen him post in.

Yep, I wonder if he has any opinion that is different from normal view, or contraversial.

Spot on. Jose will bring the best out of him.

Good game by him today. He started the season poorly thats for sure. But I do feel his handling hasn't been ideal in the past month even when his form has been decent with the lack of minutes, the inexplicably high standards he was held to and public criticisms he was getting. Hopefully that's all in the past now, Jose has made his point or has seen what he wants to see or whatever, Martial can cement his place and we can move on from this.

And what is your issue with my post? I said it appears that he's taken it on board, time will obviously tell. I'm hoping it's a similar situation to Mkhi, although I think he has been as hit and miss as Martial this season.
My issue is that you're giving way too much credit to Mourinho. There was no need to go through this whole process. Martial was alright/poor at the start of the season, so I understand the concerns. However, he has been playing this well for over a month now, and Mourinho's justification for benching Martial was the Liverpool game. Which was where he got triple marked and still somehow looked like our best attacker. Not many of you want to mention the games against Middlesbrough and Reading, for example, and the fact that he kept getting dropped after playing well. What's the point in playing yourself into form if you're constantly getting dropped?

He's actually been pretty good this year (2017) Think Damian can provide a table to confirm this :)
This was the table before today's game:

I believe the manager knows what he's doing, at least infinitely more so than random forum posters who like to presume he doesn't.

And around we go again. My opinion doesn't count. I'm just some random forum poster.

This is a forum. I am a poster on a forum. Surely you are not here telling me my opinion isn't valid on the grounds that I'm a poster, posting on a forum? You're an admin ffs

LOL Funny but true. Random forum poster, and he is an admin

Get a grip. No one is telling you your view isn't valid. Now run along ...

How do you know Mourinho hasn't been gradually converting Martial into the player he wants ? We as fans see about 10% of the interactions that players have at the club, in training, meetings, etc.

He hasn't changed his game in any way so the only way that could be true is if he's trying to change Martial's mentality. We're not in any position to comment on whether that was necessary or effective but it's fair to say that's a risky move. Personally I'd prefer he didn't take such risks with one of the most talented young players in the world.

Its also logic. Managers routinely keep players on the bench for reasons fans may never know about, since they aren't in training.

Sure but you've somehow identified what that reason is. Even though like you say, you aren't in training. That's not logic.

Yes I think he may have been working on his mentality, which obviously has a direct knock on effect to how he plays.

I'm in the same boat. But then again I'm not pretending to know more than Mourinho. Massive difference.

The way I see it. Everyone can have an opinion. Right or wrong but they are entitled to an opinion regardless whether he/she is a random poster on this site. We all want Utd to win so lets enjoy our result and move on

Think people are getting a bit hung up on what they're assuming to be something perhaps a bit personal between them. It's quite feasible that Jose thinks the world of Martial and was pissed off that he wasn't tearing it up as he thinks he should be - and the player himself may have accepted that, all the noise is from his agent, not the player. Trust the manager, and also, trust the player.

Yes, because to presume this isn't the case is to suggest Mourinho doesn't know how to manage his players.

Great performance. Everything about it was what we missed when Rashford was there. Clinical, composed and good decisions throughout. That's not as much of a knock on Marcus as it sounds, he just has much to learn and isn't ready to start in my eyes yet.

My guess Martial's dismissal of the media speculation helped. Jose seems to have come around a bit as a result. Don't think he's played any differently than in his last few games.

Absolutely. He deserved the criticism he received at the start of the season. I didn't think he did too badly but he wasn't at his best. I understand Mourinho wanting to toughen him up - it's always been his style. But what was different about Martial's game today compared to Middlesbrough or Reading? Why go through this process when a talented player like Martial was starting to produce some very good form? I also understand that it's a long term thing... I honestly think he would have made a big difference in the games we dropped points in recently, so it wasn't worth the risk IMO.

Guess the media reports are true. Martial's obviously leaving...
he left the pitch early though..

this should be his bottom level and we are fine, had a good game and fought for the ball at times too.. for me hes a great left winger/forward better than up top, both him and micky are joy to watch when on song

Its quite different. Martial was given a number of games before being taken out, he played the Community shield and started 4 of the first 5 games of the season and quite rightly at the time others were given a chance to do better. Now Mourinho has been a bit slow to give him another chance given the improvement hes shown, but nothing major.

Miki wasnt given those initial games. Just 1 game and gone from the squad. It was obvious that if he was given a proper chance he'd be a good player for us.

Is he going to be dropped again? ;)
5 good/great performance in his last 5 matches.

I wanted to vote him motm in red cafe but I picked Mata since I know Martial can get my vote anytime soon as long as Jose plays him. :D
