This is fun. The less Martial play the better he will be on the caf. But I feel the same so I should also take the blame. But reality is, Martial has been shit this season.

He's been several levels below his best but still by far our best option out wide and was just showing signs of hitting form.

I see what Jose is trying to do with him but it has backfired massively tonight.

It's odd man management by Mourinho. Martial has a good performance against Wigan and Mourinho encouraged him that if he did well there, he'd be on the pitch against Hull. You can't jerk him around like that and expect him to take it. This is no longer comparable to the Mkhitaryan situation. Mourinho has some sort of other issue with Martial that goes beyond motivating a player.
Mourinho made it clear before the match started that he hadn't done enough to start and would be on the bench only. He had a good performance against Wigan but Mourinho wanted a magnificent one and as Mkhitaryan was better in his eyes, Mkhitaryan got the nod.

I think its inexcusable that he didn't get off the bench tbh

I wouldn't be as annoyed with the whole "magnificence or bench" thing if it applied to everyone else. Pogba was shocking, but he won't get dropped or criticised like Martial and Shaw have been.
Who would you even drop Pogba for? Schweinsteiger?

Mourinho is a fecking disgrace
I'm afraid that's just the truth in the matter. A complete disgrace.

Since day 1 he's been downplaying Martial's feats last season claiming when you have one bright light in a poor season, the individual is made to seem better than he actually is.

My opinion is that he like aggressive attackers like Willian, Hazard, di Maria, Robben, Rashford etc but because Martial like Mata play more with guile than aggression he just can't warm to them and has no idea to get the most out of them.

We're worse than Liverpool fans about this. The players who aren't playing is the answer to everything.
Mikhi was the game changer for a while, that purple patch has run its course so now Martial is the answer.

Not exactly the answer. But isn't common sense when players play poor you are being dropped and when players play well you get your chance to play. In his last four games Martial has been playing well, so when he plays well while the others aren't performing, isn't it better to play players who are more in form??

This is fun. The less Martial play the better he will be on the caf. But I feel the same so I should also take the blame. But reality is, Martial has been shit this season.
The reality is he is on form. 2 assists in his last game, an assist or a goal averaged over his last 8 games. The reality is he has scored more than Rooney and Mata this season, who both came on before him.

He needs to leave for the good of his own career. I wouldn't blame him one bit. Underappreciated, undervalued, slated in public, hauled off/ dropped even if he puts in a decent performance. Watches dross like Lingard and Rooney playing ahead of him. Why should he stay?

We're going to have another Pogba situation on our hands and it will all be our own Mourinho's doing.
So infuriating, watching the inevitable play out for no good reason. I mean when listing the competition for places mourinho said we had the likes of young in competition for his place, then martial us to play magnificently to get a game. Plain and obvious mourinho doesn't like him despite him comfortably being one of the best young talent in world football.

This shit is driving me insane.

Quite shocking that there are still some fans that are actually approving and justifying Mourinho's attitude.

Martial was our best player last season, scored vs. fekin Liverpool on his debut, supposed to be our foundation for the future. That goal celebration vs. Everton in FA Cup was something.

On the other side we got Mourinho, a manager known for his poor management of youth, man known to be pety. Not to mention he is Chelsea's legend, one of our biggest rivals in this century and he was fired a year ago due to somehow managing to turn his entire title winning team against him.

Dobbs - I want Martial to play too. He deserves it as he had a few good games during the last month so the timing of just leaving him out of the squad a few times are weird. I would understand it if it was at the start of the season when he was really poor.

This is fun. The less Martial play the better he will be on the caf. But I feel the same so I should also take the blame. But reality is, Martial has been shit this season.

Only 30 mins apart that's an odd couple of posts.

Only good thing from tonight is that now Martial has to get a chance for the next match.

Well that's stupid. 7 goals/assists in last 7 starts. One of either is all we would have needed

When Martial played of late he did change games though. Look at this:

D5g9rol.png

Of the three games he didn't play, we were never in the lead in either. We managed to draw one but the other we ended up losing despite equalising.

He's contributed to 7 goals in his last 7 starts.

Stats for our attackers for that period:

B-b-b-ut the bandwagon with the "Martial's been shit this season" banner was full of people, I believe in whatever they were telling me and I WILL use "Martial's been rubbish in this game and that game and almost all season, no better than Lingard and Rashford" because everyone says so too!

His famous crap performance vs Liverpool, all his touches. Has 4 players swarming him at all times, still manages to do some good combinations and initiate some good plays despite this all and loses the ball less than the likes of Mkhi and Pogba. Also he's so lazy and crap at defending that he wins the ball with a great tackle, opens up the pitch for Mkhi to have either a shot at goal or pass it back to Martial for a tapin but nope, Mkhi ruins it.
How the feck can such a performance earn a special "oh he was crap vs Liverpool" mention from the caf and an "haha he didn't grab his chance in the Liverpool game" shout out to the national papers in the country.

If he's not given a run in the team after tonight I think I might explode

Mourinho made it clear before the match started that he hadn't done enough to start and would be on the bench only. He had a good performance against Wigan but Mourinho wanted a magnificent one and as Mkhitaryan was better in his eyes, Mkhitaryan got the nod.

Interestingly enough there was an interview on UTD site in which Mourinho was asked about Martial starting on which he responded that Mikhi will be starting due to him being MOTM vs Wigan.

Funny enough Martial was MOTM vs. Middlesbrough yet he got dropped the next match.

Only 30 mins apart that's an odd couple of posts.
Not really. He has been shit this season but the timing of dropping him is weird as he showed stuff the last month unlike the first 4 months of the season.

I think its inexcusable that he didn't get off the bench tbh
In 2017, Zlatan aside, he's been the best out of our attacking players yet still gets dropped constantly and some peddle myth about him being 'shit all season', bring up his wife (even though she was his girlfriend), shirt numbers, agents and all that shit and point the finger towards Martial. People see him being left out of squad or on bench and think its because he's been crap when he's been anything but.

We know Mourinho wants to bring Griezmann in and the way things are going people won't care that Martial will make way and say that he didn't do enough.

Only good thing from tonight is that now Martial has to get a chance for the next match.
Last time he started an away game was at the beginning of December.

This shit is driving me insane.

There's absolutely no way Jose's making these decisions based on footballing ability/ form. Based on how he's done when he's played there's simply no way. Surely Jose isn't that blind.

There's something more to this, or it's personal.

He is more important to us than a has been manager.

Not really. He has been shit this season but the timing of dropping him is weird as he showed stuff the last month unlike the first 4 months of the season.

But you said the below in response to posters saying he should be starting tonight.

This is fun. The less Martial play the better he will be on the caf. But I feel the same so I should also take the blame. But reality is, Martial has been shit this season.

But then 30 mins later go on to say he definitely should have started. Doesn't really add up to me.

Should have come on. Mata for Carrick and then Martial for either Mkhi or Rashford. Don't know why Jose bothers with Rooney,

Should have started today. Or at least been the first sub to come on. Absolutely no reason why Rooney comes on before him.
The problem will be that when he starts or plays the next game, he may frustrate, and then gets out the squad for another three games.
Given the assists on the weekend, he really should have started today and been rewarded for it.

He must be both angry and confused.

Terrified he'll leave now.

This question has been posed before, but I'm legitimately curious...how excited would people be if we brought in Griezmann but in coordination with a departure of Martial?

Apparently, by redcafe experts, it's a great man-management from Mourinho because he is showing him who is the boss and is motivating him to become better player. And somehow it will help us in the long run. Despite losing the points because we are playing clearly inferior and out of form players over him who is actually our most inform forward lately.

But as long as he is being motivated by Mourinho everything will be great.
I agreed with Mourinho at times, especially earlier in the season. But for today it made no sense. Martial just had an excellent game and was obviously what we were missing yet he didnt even get subbed on. Earlier in the season when he wasnt working hard enough, then fine, its good to make him work for it. Why not reward him for a good performance though and hard work in his last few games?

I don't understand the treatment of him. He's been playing well when he actually gets gametime. It's a bit bizarre.

Id be pissed. Griezmann is good but Martial has the potential to surpass him without a doubt, along with being more suited to the premier league anyway. Also lose Martial and who the feck do we have for the wing? Griezmann is a striker or second striker. He is pretty average anywhere else on the pitch so that really shouldnt come into the equation.

Did he warm up during the game?
As he didn't warm up before the game with the rest of the players
Yes he was warming up with Mata. But Mourinho had already wasted one sub on Rooney then Jones got injured.

I for one wouldn't be happy. Griezmann is a very good player - but for me he won't be improving much more. I also worry a tad about his temperament as I don't get the impression that he's mentally tough.

Martial on the other hand imo, has an extremely high ceiling and will keep improving and can become great - as opposed to just being very good.

So yeah, I would not be happy.

Did he warm up during the game?
As he didn't warm up before the game with the rest of the players
Yes. Mata was looking like he was going to come on when Jones went off so that delayed things and then Mata came on minutes later. I'm pretty certain Martial would've been on shorlty after Mata had Jones not gone off.

He needs to start the next few games, sick of Mourinho's excuses. That performance warrants a "place on the bench". So the whole united 11 which played today will be on the bench next week, going by that logic?

This is the first time i'm genuinely worried about how Mourinho handles the players.

His episodes with Mkhitaryan and Shaw will hopefully turn out well, but the way he is treating Martial when he is putting in performances in a way that he has played himself into the starting line up and at least get 30-45 minutes is just ridiculous and shows his negative side of his ego. I don't know what point José is trying to prove when Martial is desperately needed and gives 90 minutes for Rashford, who shouldn't be a starter and subs in Rooney.

He should be fully aware our struggles against these types of teams this season, especially at home. We just have to start our players who are in form like Martial to win our games. It feels like that in our winning games we have had to play on the top of the ability we can reach this season, and still haven't blown away any of our opponents like the other teams in the top 4 this season.

Since he has been inconsistent he should be given a run of games to stabilise his performances. He has proven that he has the tools and ability to be our most important player while in form.

I even would of rather have Schweinsteiger coming on for Carrick instead of Rooney. Such a pointless and atricious substitution. Worrying stuff.

Ok. Martial has been inconsistent this season. But this is my analysis.

Martial was also inconsistent last season. He went matches in a row without doing much then would toast a few teams and show us his potential, carrying us to victory. He was our best player.
Currently we have no left side. Rashford is a CF and is an effective impact sub on the wings due to opposition fatigue and his Thierry Henry pace. Starting LWF, Rashford plays a lame, predictable game. He shouldn't be a LWF starter for me, just an impact sub there.
This means our only LWF option is Martial. Now again Martial has been inconsistent. He was also inconsistent last season but we played him through the pain barrier and get giving him the ball and giving him it some more, until he found form and started tearing teams. We may have to do the same again, much like we do with Zlatan and Pogs, and just let him get into his stride because this start stop nonsense, doesn't seem to be getting much out of him. We may just have to persevere with him like we did last season to get him back to how he played last season. We have no other strong LWF and he has hit the highest levels previously.

This story just sums up Mourinho. Mhki and Martial play on different sides of the pitch so saying one is ahead of the other is completely irrelevant. Anyone that cannot see Mourinho has a clear agenda against Martial is clueless. Now Mhki has become teachers pet after bowing to Mourinho's ego and claiming Mournho was right to drop him earlier in the season. While Martial is now enemy number one and will continue to be so until how also bows to Mourinho's ego.

Not excited. It would make zero sense. We'd have an extra forward and be down a potentially world class left winger

Shirt number drama and now this…frankly even if Mourinho won't sell him off, wouldn't surprise me if he wants to leave.

Been bang average this season, but simply has to play every game only for the fact that if you get him in to anything like a semblance of decent form, he'll instantly be the most effective attacker on the pitch.

Mourinho made it clear before the match started that he hadn't done enough to start and would be on the bench only. He had a good performance against Wigan but Mourinho wanted a magnificent one and as Mkhitaryan was better in his eyes, Mkhitaryan got the nod.

Iin that case it seems he expects more out of Martial than other players because of the public claims of Martial not being happy and that shouldn't be the case. It's only gonna cause the rift to be larger. Sure, Mourinho can say you're either fully with me or against me, but that could lead to a very talented youngster leaving. As tough and hard-nosed as Ferguson was, even he said you have to understand each and every player's characteristics and adapt your way of treating them.
