You all just can't appreciate how lucky we fans are to have a manager who cares so much about building up a player's character by leaving him out repeatedly, that he's willing to sacrifice the team's results as a whole. That's why he's successfully developed so many young players over his career, you're all just selfish with your desire for your club to win games. Think about young Martial's character development instead. He learned a lesson today on the bench watching Rooney coming on and making a huge impact.

I genuinely am questioning Mourinho's sanity. There's not one possible explanation for that tragic decision. Seriously, feck off.

Ed's not a football man and no business giving Jose any advice.
Jose needs some fecking advice! Send SAF then to talk to him.

Jose is misusing a very expensive asset in Martial, whilst getting shit results - of course Ed has every right to talk to him!

Beggars belief how he doesn't play against a team that has David Meyler as their right back. He's certainly no worse than any of the pretenders we saw today. Mourinho has a lot to answer for.

We're worse than Liverpool fans about this. The players who aren't playing is the answer to everything.
Mikhi was the game changer for a while, that purple patch has run its course so now Martial is the answer.

Start both of them together and we'd look miles better.

All teams want to do now is let us get it to our left side and watch Rashford make a fool out of himself.

As long as Mourinho is showing him who's the boss, doesn't matter that we play clearly inferior and out of form players over him, right?

This is fun. The less Martial play the better he will be on the caf. But I feel the same so I should also take the blame. But reality is, Martial has been shit this season.

He has been no worse than Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford this season and still finds himself behind them both, it must be something behind the scenes that's keeping him out.

I don't think anyone thinks we'll be automatically amazing as soon as he starts, but he is a good player, who was our best player last year, and is the best option as our left sided attacker. So, with all that, I don't think it's a stretch to think we'd be a better team with him in it than not.

Jose has got this one wrong, deserved to start tonight after the weekend. For whatever reason martial isn't treated the same as other players in the squad, he has been mismanaged and it will be one of reasons we wont make top 4.

It was Mikhitaryan earlier in the season
Truly pathetic.

Stupid directors we have, leaving the manager who will have us finishing 6th or lower, to treat the boy like this. The funny thing is that by 'punishing' Martial, he's punishing the team and heaping pressure on himself. He's a better option than Rash at the moment and certainly better than Rooney, and Mourinho ignores him. Bloody infuriating.

A manager who is in the job 6 months shouldn't be allowed to drive out the best young talent we have like this. Something needs to be done. It's not just about tonight, or this season, as we're pretty much out of top four race now already, but for the future and very few players will have better futures theb Martial and he should be spending it here, not somewhere else because a man who may not even be our manager two years down the line didn't get along with him.

Watever Joses doing needs to stop.

Fine not starting him but playing Rooney ahead of him, and Rashford who isnt a winger is just pure stubbornness.

If Martial demands a move in the summer, I won't blame him.

It's ridiculous. It really is. Mourinho says he needs to improve to be in the side, then we had to put up watching Rashford, Rooney and Mkhitaryan stink the place up. Shambles.

Well that's stupid. 7 goals/assists in last 7 starts. One of either is all we would have needed

But it was worth it for all the ego tripping bullshit...

How is it that Martial has to be unbelievable to get a game, yet Pogba can play like dogshit and not look bothered for weeks and be a guaranteed starter?

Absolutely right. Mind boggling that we're allowing this. You don't have to have football knowledge to know that this is a stupid move by Jose.

He needs to leave for the good of his own career. I wouldn't blame him one bit. Underappreciated, undervalued, slated in public, hauled off/ dropped even if he puts in a decent performance. Watches dross like Lingard and Rooney playing ahead of him. Why should he stay?

We're going to have another Pogba situation on our hands and it will all be our own Mourinho's doing.

When players don't play they get better, he has been poor this season too. People talking about his stats the past few games, we as a team were playing decent and against rubbish.

I highly doubt Martial would have been able to be the difference against a packed Hull defence considering we were in a similar situation many times last season, when he was in much better form and yet he couldn't single handedly turn those draws into wins.

He should have came on instead of Rooney though, Rooney is shite

Nobody here is claiming he's Messi but surely he better than all our options and deserves to be starting or be the first option off the bench.

We needed goals and he was our top scorer last season FFS!

He wasn't shit three days ago though.

Can't believe there's still the odd poster suggesting dropping him is the right decision.

He's been underwhelming this season but after Sunday's game, he should have absolutely played tonight. Baffling decision by Jose.

I mean if there was ever a watershed moment that has to be it.

Unless there's some major issue we don't know about behind the scenes - dissent, agitating for a move, training ground bust-up - he should be straight back into the side.

What do you think Ed Woodward is going to say to Jose about Martial? He can talk about Martial's marketability, Martial's contract, the valuation of Martial when it comes to selling him this summer and that's about it. He knows nothing about football and he has 0 business giving any advice to Jose with regards to anything on the pitch. We don't have a DOF, we don't have a sporting director and we don't have anyone in a footballing operations capacity above Jose.

When Martial played of late he did change games though. Look at this:

Of the three games he didn't play, we were never in the lead in either. We managed to draw one but the other we ended up losing despite equalising.

He's contributed to 7 goals in his last 7 starts.

Not as shit as Rooney and Rashford has been this season.

Mourinho needs to put his ego aside now. The team is crying out for a player with Martial's quality. The fact he didn't come on is laughable

The difference is we know what Martial can do here, he proved it last season. On Sunday he had two assists, could have easily scored and is a fantastic talent who we could do with on the pitch.

I genuinely hope we lose Jose before we lose Martial. Jose is way past his best and replaceable but we'll find it harder to find another Martial.

Honestly, if I was him and no real affection towards United, I would consider leaving in the summer. And why not? Literally every club in the world would be interested in buying him. Barca, Madrid, Bayern, Juve, etc.. Why waste away on the bench (while lesser players are starting in front of him on the left) at a club who won't be in the champions league next season when he can get more games at better teams who will use him to his full potential? He's got the potential to be one of the best players in the world and he's more then ready to play every game.

Mourinho seriously needs to get over whatever the feck he is doing and just play the guy because it's costing us points. He is our best left winger by a distance, and has been at worst average and at best brilliant over the last few months. It's not like the first month or 2 when he struggled a bit and wasn't playing well. He's playing well and still sitting on the bench. Just fecking play him. Makes no sense whatever Mourinho is doing.

Not as shit as Rooney and Rashford has been this season.
That's the thing when the argument against Martial stop. Rooney has been awful, yet Jose is playing him.

Dobbs - I want Martial to play too. He deserves it as he had a few good games during the last month so the timing of just leaving him out of the squad a few times are weird. I would understand it if it was at the start of the season when he was really poor.

It's odd man management by Mourinho. Martial has a good performance against Wigan and Mourinho encouraged him that if he did well there, he'd be on the pitch against Hull. You can't jerk him around like that and expect him to take it. This is no longer comparable to the Mkhitaryan situation. Mourinho has some sort of other issue with Martial that goes beyond motivating a player.

Bringing on Rooney and Mata instead of him felt like pure petty spite, first time I've been concerned about Jose so far as United manager.

I think that's just going to be another catastrophe. Rashford is much more a natural #9 than a wide player. While Rashford will need to be eased into the #9 role, I don't see José being patient enough. So if it doesn't work out as a wide player and not properly managed as a #9, Rashford might soon be in Jose's crosshairs, given that he will be given £1bn to spend.

I've been saying for agers now that Rashford won't play as a #9 for Jose unless we become a 4-4-2 team, he's never used the Cole/Owen/Aubameyang type of striker.

I wouldn't be as annoyed with the whole "magnificence or bench" thing if it applied to everyone else. Pogba was shocking, but he won't get dropped or criticised like Martial and Shaw have been.

I genuinely hope we lose Jose before we lose Martial. Jose is way past his best and replaceable but we'll find it harder to find another Martial.

Woah. A wee bit dramatic.

All this talk of Mourinho needing to bring Martial on amongst the fan will only further discourage Jose from playing him, I'm afraid.

Apparently, by redcafe experts, it's a great man-management from Mourinho because he is showing him who is the boss and is motivating him to become better player. And somehow it will help us in the long run. Despite losing the points because we are playing clearly inferior and out of form players over him who is actually our most inform forward lately.

But as long as he is being motivated by Mourinho everything will be great.
