Scored or assisted 7 goals in last 7 starts. But he's playing crap apparently

Did nothing in the first half as the CF. Moves to LW (where Mou thinks he's better) and runs at defenders and gets 2 assists and should have scored. But he should be ignoring Mou's advice on how to get better apparently.

Martial looks exactly the same as he did when he made his debut vs Liverpool. I remember many memes about the 'dopey' look following that game. It's just his natural expression, he doesn't display much emotion.

"Doesn't look happy at all"... Don't make me laugh

Mourinho was the one who started him up front in the first place.

He's better on the left. Running with the ball from wide is far and away his strongest attribute, and he gets to do that a great deal more from out wide than through the middle. No surprise his performance totally changed when he made the switch. Two assists after such a fair while out is a solid performance. He needs to keep starting.

His buildup with Mickey was magnificent plus perfect timing with a last pass. Deserved a goal which he scored by the way.

Play him more and make him feel like home, there's some huge potential and these assists are signs of progressing maturity.

He's at his best on the left of a 3.

Yeah, his best games have been as an attacker in a front 3. I have seen play excellently in the middle but he will drift to the left. I really don't think that he is a a left winger because to me that's a midfielder role something that player like Hazard or Douglas Costa are, I believe that Martial is more like Henry when used as an inside forward he always had trouble when someone like Trezeguet was playing centrally but he was good with Wiltord.

But maybe I'm too influenced by those references.

It's a weird criticism. He looks happy when he scores. It'd be weird if he was grinning like an idiot when the ball has just bounced off him and out for a goal kick.

Di Maria got beaten with the same stick, for looking unhappy. Quite rightly he looked unhappy, we were playing shite at that point. When he scored, he looked ecstatic. This 'body language' stuff needs to stop. I can't think of any players who look delighted at other points in the game other they, or the team, have scored.

Don't think Rashford will start over him, he's not exactly done anything that warrants starting recently. We just have to hope Mourinho stops fancying Lingard. Mourinho's put way too much pressure on him, his handling of the situation has been poor IMO.

Yes, because many like you including himself and his agent think he should be the no.9 up top. Fair enough. Mou starts him, Martial does nothing. Handling him badly would be yanking him at the half. But moves him to LW, where he flourishes. Marital is a talent but hey, maybe he should trust his manager just once in a while. Maybe Mou does have Martial's development and performances at heart.

Yeah

I think it was keown who suggested martial wanted to be up top.

I always thought Martial prefers to be the left wide forward

He prefers to be a striker. It was a big deal when Jardim gave him the job and he said that playing wide was a good first step before moving centrally.

He looked nervy in the first half and a bit confused in his movement as a #9, as soon as Rooney moved central and he went to the left he started to effect the game and was very good in the second half.

He hasn't played there in a year. I'm sure he is more than happy to play off the left where he looks way more comfortable.

Pretty sure the problems are coming from him being regularly dropped from the 18 despite playing better than the other options in his position. That and the manager publicly singling him out for criticism at every opportunity.

All Jose needs to do is stop fcking with him and let him play his game.

It's the same with Rashford. I don't think he would half be the player he is up front against big guys in the PL with no place to run to.

Yet he constantly drops deep or onto the wing. He wanted to be a striker two years ago. Looks for happier on the wing these days.

He's been handled horribly. Another decent game today though. That's all he can do really. Jose needs to support him instead of fcking with him the whole time
It will always b a problem when someone as inept as Rooney gets gametime ahead of him form the wing, let this season be over. I am sure from the new season he will be a different palyer, no world cup and second season syndrome over, rooney/fellaini out of the club

yeah...exactly..but how many people wanted him to be up front.....

I do. I think he is a forward personally but he was very good today on the left and poor in the middle.

He was still talking about it this summer.

Edit: Actually the last time was in december for BeIN.

He said the same thing in his earliest interview that LvG promised to pay as a #9. In the long run he might push for it

He will look his best when Ibra leaves I feel. He plays very well with Rashford who leaves pockets of space for him.

There's a difference between a winger and a wide forward. Martial is the latter, he gets squeezed for space when he plays through the middle and his off ball movement isn't as developed yet. His best abilities for now are his finishing, close control and ability to take on defenders. I much prefer him as the left wide forward.

He was poor when he played up top but looked a different player when he moved out on to the left. In the long term he could still be a striker but for now he should definitely stick to playing out wide. Felt sorry for him not to get a goal because he deserved one.

For me the problem is more with him playing well one game and being dropped the next. Really don't think that is the way to get the best out of someone but he's taken it well and performed after a slow start.

Always liked him on the left (with support, preferably) and though I did look forward to him starting up front today, he's never going to get ahead of Zlatan or even Rashford in the pecking order for that role so do agree he's best LF where we need someone who can make a difference.

Agreed on last few sentences. Good to see him last the game.

Big part of the reason why many includong myself see him as the most promising player around. Combines his physical attributes with not only great talent on the ball, but also excellent productivity. 17 goals and 11 assists in his first season when he was 19/20, and now in a little over half a season drspite being in and out of the side, think hes at 6 goals and 5 assists.

Dwight Yorke ;)

He plays fine as a #9 in a counter attacking style just as Rashford does as their pace and dribbling is used to its best. When we pack their defense into a low compact block as Jose describes it he finds there's not enough room to get through. Same as Rashford too. Abd both are clinical when they do get an opportunity in the box. And they both cross well, the low fizzed ball across the face of goal, or cut back. They're quite similar players. Best used against teams that will try to attack us like City and Liverpool. Not best against parked busses.

He doesnt look happy at all.

its the way he is. people will try and see "sulk" in it but there's none. he's just one of them guys that gets vexed when things don't go his way/he doesn't do better. frustration with self because he knows he's capable of doing more. if properly nurtured its a great thing to have. ronaldo is the same way.

he probably spends half of the time on the pitch saying "putain"

All he needs to do now is keep his head down and work and work. Tell his agent to shut his mouth, and just wait for his chance.
Don't get upset if Jose doesn't pick him for the next game, just keep quiet and work his ass off.

He'll get his chances. As long as he produces whenever he's on the pitch, Jose won't have a leg to stand on with any criticism..

Exactly

Please just start him ahead of Lingard. He has got 7 assists/goals in 7, more than Lingard and Rashford and Mata.

As expected. He's actually good been quite good for awhile yet the rhetoric of him being awful and deserving to start based on peformances keeps getting whipped out just because Jose must be right on everything. He's clearly our best left winger, and should be first choice in that position. Mourinho needs to just get over his unwillingness to make developing players as first choice, and realise this great "competition " we have on the left are step down from Martial.
