Angel Gomes

Isn't this kid United through and through? On top of that papers always seem to claim that Barcelona are after some kids of English clubs yet I can't remember them ever actually signing anyone from the youth ranks.

If he is smart he probably should leave. Realistically almost nobody makes it here, rashford and lingard have managed in lately but only because we had one of the only managers that gives debutants important roles in the first team. Now we have a manager whose claim to fame is giving morata 10 mins every now and then

This is the same nonsense that was being spouted this time last year by people claiming Rashford wouldn't get a looking under Mourinho.

Gomes isn't close enough to being ready for first team football for this even to be a relevant argument yet.

I believe that he will most definitely sign a contract in the coming months.

I understand he wants first team outings, but he needs to be patient because his time will come, no need to put unnecessary pressure on the lad too soon.

City have been keeping Foden on the bench for most games, so he doesn't desert them like Sancho did. It is likely that he will probably make no more than 5 appearances this season.

Angel is a Red:devil:

As expected included in England U17 WC squad:

Best England youth team for a while. Gomes, Kirby, Sancho, Foden, Sessegnon, Hudon-Odoi, and Oakley-Booth are all legit PL players IMO. Matt O'Riley at Fulham is another one of those but he's just coming back from injury which I'm guessing is the reason he's not in the squad.

I don't ever watch England at lower age groups so I have no idea how they line-up, but Gomes, Sancho and Foden in a 3 behind a striker would appear on paper to be an extremely dangerous trio.

He put a story on Instagram showing that he's in Moscow with the first team. Or do they also travel to play an U21 game?

A bit suprised, I rate him very highly but i guess we are stocked for players in his favored position.

He was only on the fringes recently. His first call up was to the u17 Euros where he got only a limited minutes (scored a goal and in the pen shoot out in the final though). With Gomes and Kirby back it was a big ask. With Gomes, Sessegnon and Kirby the squad looks a good bit better than at the Euros.

Great squad, best collection of talents we've had in a while, think we have a real shot at the cup.

Pogba did the right thing. Any young talent needs first team football as soon as possible. Find your level and then starts from there.

Yeah. Pogba made absolutely correct decision back in 2012, he would not be the player he is today if he stayed back then. He almost immediately jumped into Juventus first XI while he would almost certainly get close to zero playing time at United under Fergie and then Moyes.

People need to relax about him not moving to the u23s yet. He's too fecking small still

Sorry but you have no idea how much playing time he would or wouldn't have got.

Given that we have had more youth graduates than virtually every other team in Europe and gave debuts to loads of kids last season your comment seems very strange.

I can go by how much he got during his season here under Fergie and which players were prefered over him during that period, and the fact it was Fergie's last season at United and he wanted to win the title badly so he wouldn't have had time to experiment with very young players in the middle of the park, likely.

Moyes season kind of goes without saying, man was a complete and utter coward and it was a waste of a year anyway.

It's a much more friendly environment for young players now than it would have been during that short 2012-14 period. I'm pretty sure if Pogba came through in 2008 or 2009 story would have been different too.

You are giving an opinion...which is fair enough but it's just that...an opinion.

Lots of ifs and buts...which means no-one will ever know.

Well of course I don't know for sure. Truth is Pogba was rightly frustrated with his inability to break through because he was probably confident with his ability and also knew we were not strong in the area he played in. His decision to move turned out to be correct considering how he developed during his 4 years at Juventus and how strong he has come back.

yeah mourinho really put a lot of faith in youth last year ???? there's a difference between LVG putting kids in the team every week and versus arsenal etc and Mourinho throwing kids out for a meaningless final game of the season. Do you honestly not see the distinction, really?

Aren't both Gomes and Messi 5ft6?

Height isn't everything.
More about bulkiness/weight than height. A quick Google search says Gomes currently weighs 115 pounds, I can't imagine there's a regular starter in the PL who weighs that little. For all the talk about Messi's height, he is physically strong and weighs a solid 160 pounds.

Yeah but he is still in his mid teens.

I have high hopes for him. He still may grow a bit. Hes a kid really. Far from fully developed.

Its not but it plays an important part of the game especially in a physical football like the EPL.

So basically you are encouraging a 16 year-old to leave because you think he won't get game time under a manager who made him the 5th youngest player ever to appear in our first team in the manager's first year in charge.

So...I find your comment really strange.

I think there is always the argument to drop down a level (ala Sancho to Dortmund) in order to get more game time. Dortmund have said publically he will be guarenteed game time straight away. The very best talents will never be ready for the PL at 18 or so in a team that is competing for the PL. I know people will point me towards Rashford but he's certainly not at a level yet where he can bring is to challenging for the PL, that is Romelu and Ibra. Rashford has undoubtedly been very, very lucky in getting the chances he has as early as he has and IMO and he is now being artificially fitted around the team to keep him happy and give him game time. I would argue unfairly with regards to Martial and his development as Mou is clearly showing a bias towards Rashford.

Gomes has every right to be concerned about his pathway here, given that we have Mkhitaryan, Mata, Pogba etc in the squad.

I think there is a difference between seeking 1) assurances of playing time which no one is entitled to and 2) assurances that the management, especially the manager is actively creating a pathway for the player as he progresses.
If a player gets the second from the manager, it is very likely that he will calm about his future in club. Sometimes, knowing that the manager is always thinking about you, even if you're not ready to play really helps.

He was already in the team as a regular. The plaudits go to LvG in this instance.

Nope. Mourinho could easily have frozen him out and given more starts to the older, expensive signing; Martial. Instead he stuck with the less experienced, homegrown talent. Even though Rashford was a hell of a lot less productive than he had been for Van Gaal.
