He's the captain of United U18s and England U17s. He's going nowhere.

He will need to be involved with the first team at 18, otherwise he'll likely become disillusioned.

That's still 2 years away though; plenty of U18 games and hopefully U23 experience next season before he becomes an option at first team level.

He isn't u18 captain, don't think he has ever captained the team. Don't know where you got that from.

To anyone who has watched him regularly, and actual games not just highlights, what is his best position? I mentioned a while back that, from the limited I've seen of him, he resembles a more attack minded Iniesta.

Number 10 as a "dictator", or a number 8 with right partner next to him.

Might just be the grainy footage, but that looks like a very tough neighbourhood to grow up in

Manchester United starlet Angel Gomes still dreams of playing for the Reds despite interest from Barcelona, according to his father.

The 16-year-old has turned heads after becoming the youngest Red in 15 years to score a hat trick for the club's academy.

As captain of England's under-17s, Gomes was also part of the Young Lions side which thrashed Germany 8-1 last month.

Despite being linked with a move to Barcelona, the teenager's father, Gil Gomes, insists his son is focused on making the breakthrough at Old Trafford .

"The important thing is that Angel continues to have all this pleasure in playing football," he told A Bola.

"I don't deny that many clubs ask me about him, but that's what he always says...the next dream is to play for Manchester United's first team, a club where he has been growing."

How's he been playing recently? Didn't seen like only last month he was banging them in.

Somewhere it said he was Nani's nephew. Not being funny but i doubt you'd be on £50k a week and have your nephew in a council house.

Hi guys, I'm a Sports Journo student doing a piece on Gomes. Was wondering if I could get the thoughts of any knowledgeable on him and youth team matters. DM if you could please.

I thought Gomes struggled against Liverpool although playing out wide didn't help him. I think we've got to be patient with him because of his size, lets hope he develops physically.

Angel scores goal against a collection of statues:

Being fair they'd have looked daft if they'd tried to tackle him, would have left them for dead. Can't believe he's only 16.

Played against Chelsea yesterday, was getting pressed by 2-3 Chelsea players every time he got on the ball but was dancing his way out of challenges, looks like a truly special talent.

This guy should be given a chance at the senior level. We're lacking in attack and this kid looks special.

So when our young attacking players are being physically bullied by older more experienced players, the answer is to give a tiny and very inexperienced 16 year old a game instead of them. Who'd have thought that would be the solution.

He will be, in a few more years when he has been developed properly. No rushing this guy, he has the talent and the ability - that performance against Chelsea was excellent. Very promising skill level.

Agreed. No doubt he would get absolutely binned as "another shite academy prospect" on here at the first sign of weakness.

Patience with this lad, I think he will be excellent.

Agree, we do love to build them up and give them an absolute kicking very soon after.
