Angel Gomes

Can we get the thread back onto what the lad does on the pitch, not his race or whatever international team he may choose to play for. I care not if he ever decides to play international football, I'd rather he didn't. I'd say stepping up to the under 23's is his next goal, but he's well suited to under 18 footie now and needs to be allowed to physically develop more before the next step up.

Not enough talent in La Masia? Their luck has run out
I dont think that's the question, it's about continuously trying to improve the academy. They have that Japanese guy who's as talented as Gomes is imo as well, but it's about constantly getting better playera, better prospects, better facilities, better trainers, better staffs. Ajax is doing this a lot too, even though some youth teams are by far better than all the others, they continue to improve and strengthen them.

But no way are they getting Angel Gomes.

There's plenty of talent in La Masia, don't worry about that.

Not as much as there was though. The problem is that the talent is finding it increasingly more difficult to find a path to the first team due to Barcelona's more commercial policy and change in transfer philosophy over the past few years. If Pedro was 20 today, he'd find his route to regular first team football a lot harder to contend with. They're in danger of becoming a club like Chelsea if things don't change.

But like us, they still produce a lot of talent good enough for the league they play in. There are former La Masia and Barcelona B players scattered throughout La Liga teams. Also, Bojan Nolito, Tello, Bartra and Grimaldo are playing for good teams abroad.

Gomes would be an ideal long term replacement for Iniesta if things don't work out for Denis Suárez, but I think he has his heart set on first team aspirations here. After a full season at U18 level and a few subs appearances for The U23s, he should be ready to make the step up U23 level next season at 17. Hopefully he will be starting to make the bench for the first team by the time he's 18. To think how good he is now at 16, I can only hope that his stock continues to rise over the next 2/3 seasons.

I'd say they're still the gold standard in talent production, but they don't stand out from other 'youth-centric' clubs in talent promotion any more.

EDIT: Kind of OT but did any video of the Croatia Cup 8-1 win against Germany ever turn up?

How come? they think the buyback clause will be better, player wanted to play? looked top talent..
Yeah, they sold with a 10 million euro buyback clause. Nothing new from them to be fair, they did the same with Pique.

Gomes with an assist (stopped the ball, but it counts) on a clever free kick, 2-0.

Pretty average performance from the team which says a lot of their standard saying we still won 3-0. Final ball could've been much better on many occasions. Still some good play in spurts.

Aye, nice passing in small areas as usual, but the penetration was lacking.

Whispers that Barcelona are after him. :(

He's the captain of United U18s and England U17s. He's going nowhere.

He will need to be involved with the first team at 18, otherwise he'll likely become disillusioned.

That's still 2 years away though; plenty of U18 games and hopefully U23 experience next season before he becomes an option at first team level.

Probably from his agent. He will be able to sign his first proper contract in a year.

Could be wrong, but I heard his dad was his agent. It's normal for big clubs to be interested in the most talented young players out there. He's going nowhere.
