Angel Gomes - Will he stay or will he go? | Contract Expired 30th June and he's left the club

I am not that bothered. From what I have seen in senior games, he did not show anything special.

He can go if he wants. He is 5’3 and doesn’t possess any other important physical qualities like pace. There is only so much he can do. We wouldn’t be missing much. It would have been nice if we did give him more opportunities though to be fair.

That's my impression and if we get burgeoning talents like Bellingham, I'd be more than happy

Lingard and Pereira have been poor for a while. There's no indication that anything has changed for him. He was the one that was frozen out. From his perspective, it would make complete sense to leave.

Have you considered that as horrible as they are they were also outperforming him in training too?

He’ll play more at Chelsea than United because he is good enough

Play at Chelsea ahead of the likes of Ziyech. And just like they have already signed Ziyech they will get more first team quality players. He will be at Vitesse come August. If he really wants to leave for first team football I would to see him got to lower teams that would actually give him a chance

He was given minutes, and was good to average most often played out of position, he wasn't given enough minutes considering we were playing dross like Lingard who looks like a sunday league player. What football resons do this coaching staff see in Lingard and Pereira please enlighten us? They must be blind.

Let me turn this one the other way around for you:

Considering all the youngters who got chances and secured frequent playing time.

Why didn't Angel Gomes?

So which physical qualities did Xavi and Iniesta have?

Let me turn this one the other way around for you, other than supremely talented, top 3 in the world talent, Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams (after injury of Shaw and Young being played RB to cover for AWB) who are all this other youngsters who got so much chances? Imo Garner could have played more also.

Lingard & Pereira are playing ahead of Gomes because they are first team players while Gomes was slowly being introduced just like others youngsters because they are supposed to be first team players. Ole doesn't throw his youngsters into games. And on top of it, we don't know what players do in training which also another factor.

Ole had given both Lingard & Pereira chances, I'm sure he's already losing patience on Lingard at least. Gomes is going to turn 20 this year, I think it's only matter of time Gomes will replace his spot "if" Gomes shows it in training, otherwise, the manager can also lose patience on the youngster as well and questioning his determination.

He's been at the club since he was 6 so I doubt its that. The majority of his life he's been with United

He lived in London the first 9 or 10 months of his life, rest in Manchester, so obviously has a much stronger bond with London

Get someone who can explore the pitch and produce something from nothing, someone in mood of Grealish (doesn't have to be Grealish) and I'll be less sad if we're really letting him go... don't think Angel had that many chances as Chong anyway.

this is a good question give he looked more talented to Chong

I had assumed that he had indicated he woudn't sign and was frozen out somewhat - just guesswork though

Brandon Williams was never in the conversation as a Greenwood level talent before this season. He's taken his chance with both hands and excelled way beyond what anyone thought.

You didn't answer my question at all though: Why hasn't Angel Gomes been able to secure more playtime?

Like that Pogba guy didnt? I wonder what happened to him

What does Paul Pogba have to do with anything? Pogba didn't leave because he wasnt played, he left because of Mino Raiola, according to Alex Ferguson:

Fergie has admitted he wanted to keep Paul Pogba at Manchester United, but the player's agent stopped that from happening.
Pogba, a former Manchester United academy player, has become one of the highest rated players in the world since leaving Old Trafford for Juventus in 2012.

Some consider the French man's departure to the Serie A for the measly fee of £800,000 to be Fergie's greatest mistake as United boss, but Ferguson blames Pogba's agent Mino Raiola for the transfer.

The 73-year-old retired manager claims in his new book, Leading, that he was eager for Pogba to sign a one-year contract extension with the club, but his strained relationship with Raiola hindered this from happening.
“There are one or two football agents I simply do not like, and Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba’s agent is one of them. I distrusted him from the moment I met him."

“We had Paul under a three-year contract, and it had a one-year renewal option which we were eager to sign."

“Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco. He and I were like oil and water."

Ferguson then pretty much came out and said that Raiola convinced the French midfielder that Manchester United wasn't the right place for him.

“From then our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to integrate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed with Juventus.“

Fantastic talent. Not sure if he's one for the Premier League or the way Ole likes to play.

Shame he wasn't sent out on loan this season, would have been interesting to see him at a la liga club.

Who said ahead of Ziyech. He will play more than at United. Lampard has not been impressed with his AMs this season.

Thats not a guarantee. The fact that he was not impressed with his AMs should tell you he is either going to play Ziyech as the 10 or will get an established 10 and play Ziyech at rw. Chances are that Ziyech in that situation would also be seen as the back up 10. He simply couldn't break past Pereira and Lingard yet some how he is going to get to Chelsea and outperform their current AMs

My question is: Why isn't Angel Gomes being given playtime when others are?
Because McTominay keeps knocking him on his ass during training sessions? This is my question too and I can only think it has to do with something going on during training. He doesn't seem to have a bad attitude, plays well in the U23s, so what are they seeing none of us has access to?

No one is suggesting he will be a starter. Simply he will play more than at United.

Thats not something you can say before you even know what type of business Chelsea will do in the upcoming window

Why is it so hard for us to just give him a contract with good wages for 4 years and let him pick his loan destination for a year or 2? We won't lose money since we can sell him, it's low risk high reward.

Having followed his career since he was 14, I’d be sad to see it end like this, more for him personally than anything else. You spend your life at a club to spend your entire pro career elsewhere. Would have been good to have a proper spell in and around the first team for him to look back on when he retires to show for all his time here.

That said, I won’t be that sad from a footballing perspective. I think he’s overrated by our fans, and I imagine the club have higher hopes for Mejbri and potentially Bellingham, in his same roles long term.

We have offered him one he’s just not signed it. Either wants more money or more assurances.

I think he lacks the physical profile to play for Manchester United in the coaching staff's eyes. His size has been hanging above him for a long time like a headsman's axe and it's probably why he wants to move elsewhere, because it will hinder him getting chances in this club.

Personally, from what I've seen, he is a very good footballer but his lack of strength really does hinder his dribbling ability which he has in droves.

Sometimes attackers attributes make it easier for them to break through than midfielders. Midfielders tend to develop slower or require maturity. These young wonderkids who burst onto the scene tend to be attackers (strikers, wing forwards, wingers etc). Centre Midfield takes a bit of time as their role is very demanding and complex.

I tend to feel like most young talents that break through seem to have an attribute that is already at the level of a top tier player. For example with Greenwood his finishing ability is clearly at the level of a top level striker and it's about the rest of his attributes catching up with him to make him a well rounded top player.

you need more than one top attribute to break through into the first team as a young centre midfielder. You can't get by with just an excellent pass for example, or just pace

He’s got no chance here, he’d be as well to leave.

Too slow to play wide, and hes never going to get a run ahead of Bruno at 10.

I dont think its only about money, and still that would set a very bad presedent. 30K a week for a youngster who's not even nearly stablished in he first team are pretty good wages. We tend to overpay all players, so if we start with youngsters how much would Greenwood ask? Solving all the problems with paying more is a really bad idea.

It's so lazy to say Gomes is weak because of his size. He has been competing against bigger stronger players for most of his life, while being one of the best players on the pitch for the most part. As well he really knows how to put himself about in winning the ball and shielding the ball when he needs to.

Yep. Size can be deceptive. I know muscular guys who are moderately strong, and less muscular guys who are phenomenally strong. Size isn't always proportionate to strength capacity. Training for mechanical and functional strength is not the same as training for hypertrophic muscle breakdown and size development. Naturally, getting bigger does mean you're getting stronger, but It's quite possible to train for mechanical strength and make big strides in power without packing on exorbitant amounts of mass.

You think managers are infallible?
Well, I don't think the manager and coaches that United have now are ignorant. They see what we all see in the games he plays. Plus, they see him daily in training and I am sure have one on one conversations with him fairly often. It's something in these last two areas that they are seeing that is making them make the choice to not give him as much time as fans thinks he deserves.

He has so many attributes going for him but at the end of the day he’s 5 foot and 3 inches, thats smaller and more light weight than Messi. I just don’t think he’s physically capable of playing in the prem. Boys against boys and he stands out. Coming up against men and he’ll struggle.
